Sign in to the web app in your browser, open the page you are allowed to access, wait for its content to load, then use the browser’s Print command and choose its PDF destination. Open the saved file and check it: a PDF is a static print rendering, so it may omit content that loads only after scrolling or interacting with the page.
Save the page from your signed-in browser
- Sign in normally. Use the web app’s usual login flow, including multifactor authentication if required. Navigate to the specific page you want to preserve.
- Let the page finish loading. Wait for visible loading indicators to stop. If the app loads more content as you scroll, scroll through the relevant sections before printing. Expand any sections or tables you need included.
- Open Print. Use the browser’s Print command, then choose the available option to save or print to PDF. Menu wording and the PDF destination vary by browser and operating system; the general Print-to-PDF method is also described in Her Justice’s May 2019 evidence-preservation guide.
- Review print preview. Check page breaks, orientation, margins, and whether the expected page content appears. If the preview is incomplete, return to the app, load or expand the missing content, and try again.
- Save and inspect the file. Use a descriptive filename that does not contain passwords, session tokens, or other secrets. Store the PDF somewhere appropriate for the sensitivity of the material. Reopen it and confirm that the required text, tables, images, and page boundaries are present.
What a PDF does—and does not—preserve
A PDF is useful as a readable, portable record of the page’s printed appearance. It is not a copy of the live app: it does not preserve buttons, workflows, scripts, or the ability to revisit data in its original context. Content that appears only after an interaction, lazy loading, or additional scrolling may not be included. The saved file should be treated as incomplete until you have checked it against the page you intended to capture.

When browser-based web archiving may fit better
If you need to preserve browser-loaded resources or interactions rather than produce a simple document, web archiving is a different approach to consider. Webrecorder describes ArchiveWeb.page as recording pages while you browse, and says Browsertrix can crawl pages behind logins using an active browser profile. These are vendor-described capabilities, not guarantees that every app, multifactor flow, or protected resource will be captured successfully. Check the resulting archive and confirm that the site and workflow are compatible.

The WACZ specification describes the format. Choose a PDF for a convenient static document; consider a web archive when preserving resources and replay context matters.

| Option | Best suited to | What it preserves | Limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Browser Print to PDF | A readable, static record of a page you can view while signed in | The page’s print rendering | Dynamic or interaction-dependent content may be missing; inspect the PDF. |
| ArchiveWeb.page | Recording a page while browsing, including some complex interactions | Browser-recorded web content, according to Webrecorder | Capture depends on the site and what you do while browsing. |
| Browsertrix | Automated or broader authenticated web archiving | Pages loaded in a real browser; Webrecorder says logged-in profiles are supported | It involves more setup than saving one PDF, and site compatibility varies. |
| WACZ package | Transporting and replaying a web archive | WARC data plus indexes and package metadata | It is an archive package, not a simple PDF document. |
Or skip the browser setup: ScreenshotNeo
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its API accepts custom cookies and headers, but it does not inherit the login state of your browser. A protected page will only be accessible if the request can be authorized using the app’s supported authentication method; do not send session cookies or credentials to an API unless you are authorized and comfortable with that handling. Confirm the page is accessible and use the PDF options documented for the API if you need a PDF rather than the WebP shown in this example.
The call below demonstrates a one-request capture of a public page in WebP format; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for PDF settings and authentication options. It accepts consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides screenshot, page-info, and PDF-capture tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 shots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Troubleshooting an incomplete or unusable PDF
- Sections are missing: the app may load content on scroll or after an interaction. Visit those sections, trigger the required controls, and check print preview again. If important content still does not print, a static PDF may not be suitable for the record you need.
- Text or tables are clipped: adjust the print dialog’s orientation, scale, or margins if those controls are available, then inspect the new PDF. Menu options differ by browser and operating system.
- The page redirects to sign-in: your session may have expired or the page may require a fresh authentication step. Sign in again through the app, reopen the target page, and verify it is visible before printing.
- A browser archive does not capture protected content: the site’s login flow, multifactor challenge, or protected resources may not work with that capture method. Vendor-described support for active browser profiles is not a guarantee for every app; check the capture and use the app’s normal authorized access flow.
