Save Page WE can save the page in your Firefox or Chrome tab as one local .html file. Let the content you want appear first, choose which page resources to include, then save with the extension’s toolbar button, context menu, or Alt+A shortcut. The result is a single-file copy of the page as currently displayed—not a guarantee that every frame, delayed element, or online feature will work offline.
Save the page as one HTML file
- Open the page in Firefox or Chrome. Wait for the text, images, search results, or other content you need to appear. Save Page WE captures the page as currently displayed; content that has not loaded yet may not make it into the file.
- Start the save. Click the Save Page WE toolbar button, use the page’s right-click context menu and choose the Save Page WE submenu, or press
Alt+A. The shortcut can be changed in the extension’s options. - Save and inspect the downloaded file. Open the resulting
.htmlfile in a browser and check the parts you need, including images and embedded content. If the page is incomplete, adjust the relevant options below and save it again.
The toolbar can also be configured to save selected tabs or URLs from a list. Save Page WE’s Firefox and Chrome listings describe these workflows, though the controls and save-method behavior are not identical across the two browsers.

Choose what Save Page WE includes
In Save Page WE’s options, select Basic, Standard, or Custom saved items. The choice affects which resources are embedded and therefore the file’s completeness and size.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems| Setting | What it includes | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | HTML elements, currently displayed HTML images, canvas graphics, stylesheets, currently displayed CSS images, and CSS fonts used by the browser. | For a lighter copy of what is visibly displayed. |
| Standard | Basic items, plus all HTML images, HTML audio and video, object/embed content, and WOFF fonts for any browser. | When the page uses additional images, media, or fonts that should be included. |
| Custom | Basic items plus resource types you select. Options include all CSS images, broader font inclusion, and scripts in same-origin frames. | When you need control over particular resource types. |
Save Page WE stores saved HTML elements and referenced resources in the same file. Its documentation describes external stylesheets becoming internal CSS, frame contents and external scripts being represented as UTF-8 data URIs or iframe srcdoc, and binary resources such as images, fonts, audio, and video being embedded as Base64 data URIs. A large or media-heavy page can consequently produce a large HTML file.

Capture delayed and lazy-loaded content
Content that appears after the initial load
If a page fills in results or other content after its initial load event, enable a save delay in the extension options. Wait until the content is actually present before starting the save; a delay cannot capture content that the site never loads or that requires an action you have not taken.
Lazy-loaded images and sections
For material that appears only as you scroll, use Save Page WE’s lazy-content options. The extension offers loading lazy content by scrolling or shrinking the page, as well as loading lazy images in existing content. Review the saved file afterward, because pages can use different loading behavior and not every offscreen element is necessarily available to capture.
What may not work in the offline copy
- Cross-origin frames: A frame is saved only when all its cross-origin ancestor frames can run content scripts. Scripts in cross-origin frames are never saved. A frame may therefore be absent or less interactive than it was online.
- Unavailable resources: Some resources may fail to load or save. Enable the option to show or list unsaved resources to identify gaps. You can also remove the URLs of unsaved resources so the local file does not try to fetch them from the internet when reopened.
- Interactive site features: A single HTML copy is not the same as a running website. Features that depend on a server, fresh data, login state, or resources that could not be embedded may not behave as they did on the original page.
Save Page WE also has options concerning cross-origin frame retention, removing or rehiding elements, source formatting, filename construction, and resource-loading limits. Adjust only the options relevant to the page you are preserving, then inspect the result locally.
Save several pages and set a filename pattern
For multiple pages, use the selected-tabs workflow or load a list of URLs through the extension’s options. The toolbar can be configured to save listed URLs; the Chrome listing also describes saving selected tabs and listed URLs.
For consistent filenames, Save Page WE supports filename fields such as %TITLE%, save date and time, host, path, and URL query values. You can set a separator for spaces and a maximum filename length. If you use its automation mode, note that the documented workflow is specific to Firefox: it initiates a configured save action when Firefox starts and closes Firefox after the save completes. This is not a general promise of browser automation across platforms.
Firefox and Chrome behavior can differ
The Save Page WE instructions describe differences between the browsers’ save methods. In Firefox, the listing says the new method can save pages the old method cannot. In Chrome, the old method remembers the last save location but can fail on some pages; the new method can save all pages but does not remember the location. The Chrome listing also warns that other download extensions may rename files to a UUID when the new method is used; it suggests reinstalling Save Page WE or reverting to the old method.
The official Mozilla Add-ons listing identifies version 28.11, last updated 31 March 2023, while the Chrome Web Store listing identifies version 33.9, updated 5 September 2023. These are separate listing details, not a single current version shared by both browsers. Check the listing and options available in your own browser store before following version-specific expectations.

ScreenshotNeo is a screenshot API, not a replacement for Save Page WE’s single-file HTML archive: use it when you need a visual capture as an image or PDF rather than a local webpage file. One GET request returns a screenshot or PDF. For example, this cURL request saves a WebP screenshot of a page:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Before capture, it can accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents using Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

Troubleshooting
The saved page is missing results or images
- Wait for delayed results to appear before saving; for post-load content, enable a save delay.
- For lazy-loaded sections or images, enable the relevant lazy-content option, then save and inspect again.
- Switch from Basic to Standard or configure Custom if the missing item type is not included in your current selection.
A frame or embedded feature is missing
Cross-origin frame access is limited, and scripts in cross-origin frames are never saved. Check the frame-retention options, but do not expect the extension to preserve content the browser cannot expose to it.
The file still tries to load something online
Use the unsaved-resources list to find missing items. If you want the offline file not to reach back to their original URLs, enable the option to remove URLs for unavailable resources.
Chrome uses an unexpected filename or save location
Chrome’s new save method may not remember the last save location, and another download extension may rename the result to a UUID. Try reinstalling Save Page WE or switching back to its old save method, as the Chrome listing suggests.
Firefox downloads or opens the HTML differently than expected
Check Firefox Settings > General, the “Firefox HTML Document” application action, and download preferences to adjust handling.

You want to convert an existing MHT or MAFF file
Save Page WE cannot directly convert local .maff or .mht files because Firefox WebExtensions add-ons cannot read local files. Its listing describes an advanced workaround involving Firefox’s Save Page As and a local web server; the ordinary extension workflow applies to pages open in a browser tab.
