Open the saved .html file in Firefox or Chrome. If the page opens but images are missing, reopening it in another browser usually will not restore them: first check whether Save Page WE captured those images, whether lazy-loaded content was loaded, and which resource set was selected when saving.
Open the saved file
Save Page WE is designed to put the displayed HTML and captured resources into a single HTML file. Its documentation says binary resources such as images are stored as data URIs inside that file, and that the file can be opened in a browser. Save Page WE for Chrome and Save Page WE for Firefox describe this format.

- Find the saved file ending in
.html. - Open Firefox or Chrome, then use the browser’s Open File command, or right-click the file and choose the browser from Open With.
- If the page itself appears but some images do not, treat that as a possible incomplete capture rather than proof that you opened it incorrectly.
Check whether the images were saved
When available, use Save Page WE’s View Saved Page Info command. Review the saved-resource summary and any warnings or list of resources that could not be saved. The extension provides resource and metrics information, but it does not promise that every page resource can be captured.

- Basic Items include currently displayed HTML images, currently displayed CSS images, canvas graphics, stylesheets and baseline page resources.
- Standard Items add all HTML images and additional media, font and object/embed resources.
- Custom Items let you select additional resource types, including options for CSS images and scripts in same-origin frames.
If an image was not loaded or included when the file was saved, opening the file again cannot recreate its missing data. Save Page WE also notes limits involving cross-origin frames; in particular, scripts in cross-origin frames are not saved.
Save lazy-loaded images and page content
Some sites load images only when they approach the visible area of the page. Save Page WE documents options to load lazy content by scrolling or shrinking the page, and an option to load lazy images in existing content. If images are missing from a saved copy, enable the relevant lazy-content or lazy-image option and save the page again.

- In Save Page WE’s options, enable its lazy-content loading method (scrolling or shrinking) and/or the option to load lazy images in existing content.
- Select a saved-item set that includes the images you need; Standard or a suitable Custom selection may capture more than Basic.
- Save a new copy and inspect its saved-page information for resource warnings.
These settings improve the chance of capturing resources that can be loaded, but they do not guarantee that inaccessible resources or content restricted by the source page can be archived.

If you created the file with Firefox’s built-in Save Page As rather than Save Page WE, the selected format determines where images go:

| Save method or format | Where images are stored | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Save Page WE | Captured binary resources, including images, are embedded in the single HTML file. | Check saved-resource information, item selection and lazy-image settings if images are absent. |
| Firefox: “Web page, complete” | The HTML file is accompanied by a directory containing pictures and other required files. | Keep the companion directory alongside the HTML file. Moving only the HTML can break references to those files. |
| Firefox: “Web page, HTML only” | The original page HTML is saved without pictures. | Missing images are expected for this format; save again using a format that includes them if the live page is available. |
Mozilla explains the behavior of Firefox’s formats in its page-saving instructions.
Troubleshoot a page with missing images
- The HTML opens, but every image is absent: Check whether the file was saved as Firefox “Web page, HTML only.” If it was, the format intentionally omits pictures.
- Only some images are absent: Inspect Save Page WE’s saved-page information and warnings. The missing resources may not have been available to save, or may be affected by frame or resource-loading limitations.
- Images appear on screen before saving but disappear in the saved copy: Check the saved-item selection and any unsaved-resource list. Try a broader item set and save again.
- Images load only after scrolling: Enable the lazy-content or lazy-image option, return to the live page, and create a new saved copy.
- A Firefox “Web page, complete” file loses images after being moved: Put its companion directory back beside the HTML file and preserve the original relative arrangement.
- You no longer have the original page: The official guidance does not describe a way to recover image data that was never captured. The saved file’s resource information may help establish what was included, but it cannot supply omitted data.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a fresh screenshot rather than an offline HTML archive, ScreenshotNeo can return an image or PDF from one API request. It accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off individually. Bot checks, blank pages and failed loads are not billed, and responses include page-verdict and billing headers. Its MCP server lets AI agents use take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf.
For example, this cURL request saves a screenshot of the target page. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.
