To save a page’s printable content, use File > Print (or press Command-P), then choose PDF > Save as PDF. That creates a paginated PDF—not a single tall screenshot image. If you specifically need an image of the whole scrolling page, Safari’s built-in screenshot controls do not provide that documented capture mode.
Choose the right kind of page capture
“Full-page screenshot” can mean either a tall image of a page or a file that preserves its printable content. Those are different outputs, and Safari’s built-in options suit different needs.

Save printable webpage content as a PDF
- Open the webpage in Safari on your Mac.
- Choose File > Print, or press Command-P. Safari’s documented shortcut for printing is listed in Apple’s Safari keyboard-shortcut guide.
- Review the print preview. Check for missing content, awkward page breaks, or sections that did not load.
- In the macOS print dialog, open the PDF control and choose Save as PDF.
- Name the file, choose where to save it, and select Save.
The result is a PDF rendered for printing. It may be useful as a record or for sharing, but it should not be described as a single screenshot: the page can flow across multiple PDF pages, and print layout may differ from the live website.

For a conventional image capture, macOS offers screen, window, and selected-area shortcuts. These capture visible screen content rather than scrolling through a webpage.

- Whole display: press Shift-Command-3.
- Selected area: press Shift-Command-4, then drag to select an area.
- Window: press Shift-Command-4, press Space, then select a window.
- Screenshot controls: press Shift-Command-5 to open the Screenshot app and see available capture options.
Screenshots are saved to the desktop by default; the Screenshot app lets you choose a save location. Apple says supported Mac models using macOS Tahoe 26 or later save SDR screenshots as PNG and HDR screenshots as HEIF. Save a reusable copy of the webpage
If you want to retain webpage material rather than make an image or printable document, Safari can save a Web Archive or Page Source. Choose File > Save As, then select the available format.

- Web Archive: saves graphics and keeps links working while the destination pages remain available. It can be a practical copy for later access, but it is not a screenshot.
- Page Source: saves the HTML source, not the rendered appearance of the page.
Apple notes that some webpages may prevent saving items displayed on the page. Inspect the saved file to confirm it contains what you need. Apple’s instructions for saving webpages in Safari explain these formats and limitations.

Common snags
- The PDF is missing content: check the print preview and saved PDF. Some sites prevent saving displayed items; a printout also reflects print layout rather than the screen layout.
- The page is cut across awkward page breaks: inspect the preview before saving. A PDF is paginated, so it cannot guarantee the appearance of one continuous tall image.
- You need an image, but got a PDF: the print workflow creates a PDF. Use the screenshot shortcuts for visible content, or a webpage screenshot service if you need a scrolling capture.
- You need links and graphics later: choose Web Archive instead of Page Source, then verify the archive. Web Archive links still rely on their destination pages being available.
