To remove a microSD card from a Samsung device safely, first unmount it in the device’s settings, then open the outlined SIM/microSD tray with the supplied ejector tool and lift out the card. Not every Samsung Galaxy model has a microSD slot, and menu names and tray locations vary by model.
Before you start: confirm the device has a microSD slot
Samsung calls these memory cards microSD cards. Some Galaxy phones and tablets do not support them, so check the exact model’s specifications or manual before looking for a tray. Samsung’s microSD guidance explains the supported-card workflow.

Unmount the card in software
Unmounting tells the device to stop using the card before you remove it. Menu labels differ across devices, software versions, and wireless providers, so treat these paths as examples rather than universal instructions.

- Open Settings.
- Look for a storage option. Samsung’s US example is Device care → Storage → More options (three dots) → Storage settings → Unmount. Other versions may label the area Battery and device care or use older names such as Device maintenance. See Samsung US and Samsung UK.
- Choose the SD card’s Unmount control and wait for the device to finish.
If Settings does not show the option
Samsung Canada describes an alternate route: open My Files, locate SD card under storage, tap More options, and choose Unmount. The exact labels may differ; consult the instructions for your model if you cannot find the control. Samsung Canada’s guide includes this option.

Open the tray and remove the card
- Find the outline of the SIM/microSD tray, often on the top or side edge. The position depends on the model. Use the small eject hole associated with that outlined tray.
- Insert the supplied SIM ejector tool straight into that hole. Press gently until the tray releases; do not force it.
- Pull the tray out and lift the microSD card out of its slot.
- Slide the empty tray back into the device.
Keep the ejector tool out of microphone and speaker openings. Samsung warns that those holes can be mistaken for the tray’s eject hole. If you have lost the supplied tool, Samsung says a replacement may be available from a carrier or electronics retailer; use a replacement ejector rather than an improvised object. Samsung’s instructions identify the tray and warn about nearby openings.
If the card is encrypted or the tray will not release
The device reports adoptable storage or an encrypted card
This is a special case, not the normal removable-card procedure. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance says cards used as adoptable storage are encrypted and cannot be removed without resetting the device and formatting the card. Back up what you can and consult Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance before taking action; formatting can erase the card’s contents.

The tray is stuck, bent, or damaged
Check that you are using the hole on the tray outline, not a microphone or speaker opening. If the tray still will not release, or looks bent or damaged, stop rather than applying more pressure. Samsung advises seeking service for a difficult or damaged tray; its troubleshooting page points readers toward walk-in service or scheduled repair for stuck cards or trays.
