You can use an eligible old phone to reduce what you pay for a Galaxy S26, but the amount depends on the exact device, its condition, the S26 model and storage you choose, and where you buy it. Get the device-specific checkout quote—not a headline maximum—then compare Samsung’s immediate trade-in credit with any carrier offer’s total bill credits and requirements.
How to get a trade-in quote for a Galaxy S26
- Choose your Galaxy S26 model and storage. Samsung announced U.S. general availability for the Galaxy S26 series on March 11, 2026; availability through Samsung.com, stores, Amazon Stores, Best Buy, and carriers does not mean those sellers share one trade-in program. - Open the seller’s trade-in flow and enter the exact old phone. Select its make, model, and condition. Samsung says its qualifying-device list and credit amounts are available on Samsung.com and in the Shop Samsung app, and may change. - Compare the final checkout amount and offer terms. Check whether the credit reduces the phone price immediately or arrives later as bill credits, and account for plan, payment, and forfeiture conditions before choosing.
- Save the quote and terms. Keep a copy of the checkout details, eligibility rules, deadlines, and any offer expiration date. Promotions can change, and a credit advertised for other eligible products may not reduce the Galaxy’s price.
There is no reliable single trade-in value to quote without knowing your phone, its condition, the S26 variant, seller, and checkout date. Samsung says its eligible models and amounts can change, so confirm the live amount in the purchase flow.

Samsung instant credit versus a carrier deal
Samsung’s instant trade-in applies an anticipated credit at purchase toward a qualifying Samsung device. Carrier promotions may instead distribute credits over future bills. To compare fairly, calculate the net phone cost: subtract Samsung’s immediate credit from the purchase price, or total only the carrier credits you expect to earn. Then factor in any required plan or service duration and what happens if you change or cancel service. A carrier’s maximum headline value is not directly comparable to Samsung’s instant amount until those conditions are clear.

Check your phone’s condition before accepting
Samsung’s requirements generally include that the phone powers on and holds a charge, has a functioning display, is not blacklisted, belongs to you rather than being leased, and has no disqualifying breakage or liquid damage. Samsung also requires a factory reset, removal of personal information, and disabled software locks. A broken phone is not automatically eligible or ineligible: the answer depends on the specific program and offer. Review the condition choices and any cracked-device terms in the seller’s flow rather than assuming another seller’s rules apply.

When to mail the trade-in—and what happens if it fails inspection
Under Samsung’s cited terms, you must send the old phone within 15 days after receiving the qualifying purchase. If you do not send it in that period, Samsung may charge back the full anticipated trade-in credit. If you send it on time but Samsung finds that it does not meet eligibility requirements, the stated chargeback is the trade-in credit minus $25. Prepare the phone before shipping
- Back up the phone and transfer the data you want to keep.
- Remove personal information and accounts, and disable software locks as Samsung requires.
- Factory-reset the phone only after confirming your data and transfer are complete.
- Follow the return instructions associated with your order, and send the device within Samsung’s stated deadline.
Samsung’s FAQ also describes a standalone used-Samsung trade-in run by Likewize. That is a separate program from instant credit toward a new Galaxy purchase, so verify which flow you are using before you accept an offer.

Samsung’s offers page can include time-limited and product-specific promotions. For example, a page snapshot showed an S26 Ultra no-trade-in Samsung Credit offer dated September 28 through October 5, 2026; that credit was for additional eligible products, not a direct reduction in the phone’s purchase price. Because offer pages may also show expired promotions, check the live purchase page for the applicable dates, eligible products, and stacking rules rather than treating a displayed maximum as a current trade-in quote.
