You can run XSplit Broadcaster on a VPS only if the Windows virtual machine gives it a compatible graphics adapter and drivers, meets XSplit’s requirements, and can sustain the upload speed your YouTube stream needs. A low advertised VPS price does not establish any of those things. This guide shows what to verify before you pay, how to configure a modest test stream, and how to compare the real cost. No specific Indian provider or VPS plan has been verified here.
Can you run XSplit on a VPS?
Yes, if the VPS runs a supported 64-bit Windows environment and exposes suitable graphics hardware and drivers to XSplit. XSplit says Broadcaster is compatible only with Microsoft Windows; its stated requirements include Windows 10 or 11 64-bit, at least a second-generation Intel Core i5 or equivalent, 8 GB RAM, and a GeForce- or Radeon-class graphics card supporting DirectX 10.1 or better. Those software requirements do not mean that any Windows VPS will work. A virtual machine may not expose a compatible GPU, driver, or hardware encoder to the application. Microsoft’s GPU acceleration guidance for Azure Virtual Desktop illustrates that GPU rendering on cloud VMs depends on supported VM sizes and configuration. It is not proof that an arbitrary Indian VPS supports XSplit, nor a recommendation of a low-cost Indian host.

What XSplit’s minimums do—and do not—tell you
XSplit also lists 250 MB of storage and a 500 kbps minimum upload for its lowest live-stream settings. These are XSplit’s stated minimums, not a promise of acceptable HD quality or a guarantee that a VPS can maintain a YouTube broadcast. YouTube’s recommended bitrates for common HD H.264 settings are substantially higher.

What to verify before choosing an Indian VPS
Ask the provider for plan-specific answers in writing. A headline hourly or monthly price cannot tell you whether the workload will run correctly or what a long broadcast will cost.
- Windows: Which Windows version runs in the guest, and does the license permit your intended use?
- Graphics: What GPU model or virtual graphics profile does the guest see? Which drivers are installed, and can XSplit access them?
- Encoder access: Does the VM expose an encoder XSplit can use, such as NVIDIA NVENC, Intel Quick Sync, or AMD VCE? Ask how it is presented to the Windows guest, not only whether the host server has a GPU.
- Compute and memory: Does the plan meet XSplit’s stated CPU and 8 GB RAM minimums while leaving capacity for Windows, your scene, and other running software?
- Network: What outbound throughput can the plan sustain, what egress charges apply, and which YouTube ingest region will you use? A brief speed test does not establish stable performance over a full stream.
- Remote desktop: Ask whether the provider’s remote access setup affects graphics acceleration or hardware encoding.
- Operations: Check restart handling, availability terms, storage charges, and how you will regain access if the VM reboots or disconnects.
- Total price: Include compute, Windows licensing if charged separately, any GPU premium, storage, and network egress for the actual hours you expect to stream.
No current India-specific VPS price, Windows licensing answer, GPU exposure, XSplit compatibility, egress cost, or sustained upload benchmark is established here. Confirm those details directly with each provider rather than treating an offer’s “GPU” or “Windows” label as proof of compatibility.

How to set up and verify XSplit on the VPS
- Confirm the plan before buying. Get the provider’s Windows version, guest-visible graphics adapter and drivers, encoder access, licensing terms, sustained outbound capacity, and complete network pricing. Compare the exact VM shape, not just a product-family name.
- Connect to Windows and check graphics access. Once provisioned, verify that Windows detects the promised adapter and that its driver is active. If the provider’s documentation describes a particular GPU profile or configuration, confirm it is enabled for your VM.
- Install XSplit and inspect its encoder choices. Create a scene, then open XSplit’s output settings and see which encoders are actually available. XSplit supports software x264 and may offer hardware options such as Intel Quick Sync, NVIDIA NVENC, or AMD VCE, depending on the hardware and platform. Its output settings guide describes the choices. Do not assume a hardware encoder is available just because the host advertises a GPU.
- Set up the YouTube stream. Create or select the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room, then configure XSplit’s YouTube output with the stream key and ingest details shown by YouTube. Treat the stream key as a password: do not share it or include it in screenshots. YouTube recommends RTMPS, CBR bitrate encoding, and a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). - Start with a modest test profile. For H.264, YouTube recommends 6 Mbps at 720p30, 8 Mbps at 720p60, 10 Mbps at 1080p30, and 17 Mbps at 1080p60. These are YouTube recommendations, not measurements of what a given VPS can sustain. A sensible initial test is 720p30 at 6 Mbps if the host can maintain it; choose a lower resolution or bitrate if it cannot, and leave headroom for audio and network variation. Set the keyframe interval to two seconds and encoding to CBR.
- Test the actual workload before a real broadcast. Send a private or otherwise appropriate test using representative movement and audio. Monitor YouTube’s stream-health messages and the VPS’s outbound throughput over time. A short speed test or a static scene is not a substitute for checking the conditions your real stream will create.
- Use XSplit’s basic workflow to go live. XSplit’s getting-started guide covers creating a scene, setting up streaming, and starting a stream or recording. Once the test is stable and YouTube reports healthy reception, start the intended broadcast from XSplit and monitor it.
Bitrate and settings for YouTube Live
Use YouTube’s recommendations as starting points for the selected codec, resolution, and frame rate—not as a promise that a VPS network path can hold the bitrate. The figures below are YouTube Help’s H.264 recommendations; the guidance page does not state a publication year.

YouTube recommends RTMPS, CBR, and a two-second keyframe interval, with keyframes not more than four seconds apart. If the stream health degrades, reduce the output demand and test again rather than assuming a nominal network speed will hold during a broadcast.

How to compare the real cost
Estimate cost over the run time you actually need. A low-cost plan can become a poor fit if Windows licensing, a GPU-enabled VM shape, storage, or outbound traffic adds charges. Ask each provider for the terms and current prices that apply to your region and expected hours; no comparable current Indian plan prices are established here.
- Calculate VM compute for the full scheduled run time, including setup and testing.
- Add Windows licensing charges if they are separate from the VPS rate.
- Add the GPU or accelerated-graphics premium required by the specific VM shape.
- Include storage and network egress, checking how the provider bills outbound data.
- Compare the complete total against the actual stream resolution, frame rate, and duration you need—not just the advertised hourly rate.
Common problems and what to check
- XSplit will not install or start: Confirm that the guest is a supported 64-bit Windows version and that the VM meets XSplit’s CPU and memory requirements.
- No hardware encoder appears in XSplit: Check which graphics adapter and drivers Windows detects, then ask the host whether the GPU profile and encoder are exposed to the guest. Use an available supported option only after confirming it appears in XSplit’s output settings.
- YouTube reports poor stream health or buffering: Check sustained VPS upload throughput and egress/network limits. Lower resolution or bitrate and repeat a representative test; do not rely on a short speed test alone.
- The stream will not connect: Verify the YouTube ingest details and stream key, select RTMPS as recommended by YouTube, and confirm the VM can reach the service. If you regenerate the key, update XSplit with the new one.
- The broadcast looks unstable despite sufficient headline bandwidth: Check for variation under sustained load, audio and scene workload, and remote-desktop graphics behavior. Ask the provider for plan-specific diagnostics rather than inferring performance from its marketing label.

A technically stable stream does not establish that you have the right to broadcast its video, music, or other material. Use content you own or are licensed to stream, and check YouTube’s policies and any applicable restrictions in Live Control Room before broadcasting.
