This is best when the feeds need different audio, content, schedules, or event settings. It also means more encoding work and upload demand, so test both streams together before relying on them for a long broadcast.
Choose the right setup for the two feeds
First decide whether you need two independently produced streams or simply want to distribute one program in two places. Separate languages, mixes, schedules, branding, or content usually call for two distinct outputs. If both streams carry exactly the same program, a cloud relay may be simpler than encoding two copies locally, but confirm that the service supports your intended YouTube events and destinations.

For distinct feeds, the most straightforward local workflow is two OBS instances, each configured for one event. OBS forum guidance recommends giving each instance its own profile and scene collection. Back up your configurations and avoid editing the same profile or collection in both instances; confirm that your launch method works with your operating system and OBS version.

Check YouTube eligibility and stream limits
Before configuring OBS, make sure live streaming is enabled for the channel, the channel is verified, and there is no applicable live-streaming restriction. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Its current Help page sets simultaneous limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key; both caps apply at the same time. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and limits before scheduling the broadcasts, because platform rules can change.

Create two YouTube live events
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the first live stream event, then create a separate event for the second feed. Set clear titles, descriptions, visibility, and schedules so listeners can distinguish them.
- For each event, open its stream settings and copy its server URL and stream key. Keep a private note of which key belongs to which OBS instance and event. YouTube describes stream keys as “your YouTube stream’s password and address”; do not post or share them publicly. See YouTube’s encoder setup steps and stream key settings.
- If you use custom or reusable keys, label them carefully and confirm that each OBS instance is mapped to the intended event. A mistaken mapping can send the wrong feed to the wrong watch page.
Configure and launch the two OBS instances
- Start the first OBS instance and select a dedicated profile and scene collection for feed one. Configure its intended visual, audio sources, stream server URL, and key.
- Launch a second OBS instance using a different profile and scene collection for feed two. Set its own event URL and key, and configure the audio and visuals required for that stream.
- Check audio routing separately in each instance. Do not assume that a source audible in the first feed is present in the second. Confirm each feed’s actual program audio, including any microphone, music, or processing specific to that mix.
- Start the encoder outputs and wait for each event’s preview in YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm that the correct content and audio appear for the matching event before starting the public broadcast.
- When practical, test with private or unlisted events first. Open each audience-facing watch page and verify that it is reachable and showing the intended feed. YouTube recommends test streams and ongoing audio/video monitoring; its encoder guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived.
YouTube’s encoder workflow connects the event to the software through that event’s server URL and stream key. You can use Studio’s controls to start and end the event. Follow the current instructions in YouTube’s encoder guide, as Studio labels and controls may change.
Plan for the extra computer and network load
Two local outputs mean two streams must be encoded and uploaded, alongside OBS compositing, audio processing, and any other applications on the computer. YouTube says local software or hardware encoders can process multiple simultaneous streams on the device and emphasizes having sufficient upload capacity. Its guidance contrasts local encoding—which offers quality and control when the computer is powerful enough—with cloud encoding, which can ease the burden on a constrained computer.

There is no universal CPU, GPU, or upload-speed minimum established for this exact two-radio-stream setup. Actual demand depends on resolution, frame rate, bitrate, encoder preset, source complexity, audio, and network overhead. Measure stable upload capacity during a realistic two-stream test, leave headroom for normal connection variation, and monitor dropped frames, encoder overload, and audio continuity. If either encoder struggles, reduce the workload or use a cloud approach rather than assuming a single fixed specification will solve it.
Troubleshoot common two-stream problems
- The second event does not receive a signal: Check that its OBS instance is using that event’s server URL and key, that the encoder is running, and that the channel’s stream limit has not been reached.
- The wrong feed appears on a watch page: Compare the event-to-key mapping in your private notes with each OBS instance’s settings, then confirm the preview in Live Control Room before going public.
- One stream has missing or incorrect audio: Inspect the audio sources and routing in that instance, then listen to its YouTube preview. Separate OBS instances do not guarantee that the same audio configuration is present in both.
- Video drops frames or OBS reports overload: Run both outputs in a realistic test and check encoder load, dropped frames, and available upload capacity. Reduce resolution, frame rate, or bitrate as appropriate to the stream, or move encoding/distribution to a cloud workflow.
- Settings change unexpectedly between instances: Make sure each instance uses its own profile and scene collection. Restore from a backup if necessary, then test the launch and configuration behavior on the installed OBS release.
- A plugin or multi-output setup fails after an update: Recheck compatibility and current setup instructions for your exact OBS version and operating system; do not depend on an unverified plugin for a scheduled broadcast.
