What YouTube’s support for simultaneous streams does—and does not—mean
YouTube says local software or hardware encoders support multiple simultaneous streams. That establishes platform-level feasibility, not that a particular computer can encode two outputs reliably or that a single OBS process can route two separate prerecorded files to two separate YouTube events.

The distinction matters: each stream must reach the intended event, with its corresponding stream URL and key. The available YouTube guidance does not specify the OBS procedure for creating two independent prerecorded outputs, nor does it establish whether that requires one OBS process, multiple instances, or another configuration. Do not assume a particular setup without checking OBS’s current official documentation.

Prepare the channel and two YouTube events
Check live-stream eligibility
Before configuring the encoder, confirm the channel can go live. YouTube Help says a channel must be verified, have no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16 years old: YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.

Create distinct events
In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule each event under Manage. Scheduling gives each broadcast its own watch page to share in advance. Keep the two events and their encoder details clearly labeled so a video is not accidentally sent to the wrong event. See YouTube’s instructions for creating a live stream with an encoder.
Map each encoder output to the correct event
For each event, use that event’s stream URL and stream key in the encoder output intended for it. YouTube describes stream keys as credentials that identify which feed it should accept, and allows stream settings to be reused when creating another stream: YouTube’s stream-key guidance.

- Keep a private mapping of event name, video, stream URL, and key for each output.
- Never publish or share a stream key. Anyone with the key may be able to send a feed to the event.
- Verify that each output is associated with the correct event before starting the broadcast.
The mapping principle is supported by YouTube’s workflow; the precise OBS controls needed to create and run two independent outputs are not established here. Check current OBS documentation for supported output configuration, media-source behavior, and resource requirements before building the final setup.
Choose settings and confirm the network can carry both streams
YouTube advises choosing a quality that is reliable for the available internet connection and running a speed test. Its general encoder recommendations include RTMP or RTMPS, H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. The appropriate bitrate depends on the resolution and frame rate; YouTube does not give a specific bandwidth formula for two simultaneous outputs in the cited guidance. Consult its current encoder settings and bitrates and live-streaming tips.

Two outgoing streams use combined upload capacity. A speed test is a useful check, but it does not prove the PC can encode and send both streams steadily under real conditions. Test with representative motion and audio, at the intended settings, and leave headroom rather than choosing a quality that uses the connection’s entire measured upload capacity.
Test both events before the scheduled start
- Use the intended files and settings. Test both prerecorded videos with representative audio and motion, not just a static screen.
- Start each output and check its own Live Control Room preview. Confirm that the right video and audio appear on the right event and that the stream is healthy.
- Run both outputs together long enough to expose problems. Watch for dropped frames, buffering, audio issues, and signs that the computer or connection is overloaded.
- Start early on broadcast day. YouTube recommends starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before a scheduled event so there is time to check the preview and stream status.
- Monitor stream health while live and stop the encoder output when the event ends.
Common problems and what to check
- The wrong video appears on an event: recheck the event-to-output mapping and verify the stream URL and key for that event.
- An event does not receive a feed: check that its encoder output is started and uses that event’s current URL and key; then check the Live Control Room status.
- Both streams stutter or drop frames: reduce the selected quality or bitrate and test again. Check both the upload connection and the computer’s ability to process two outputs.
- One stream is stable but the other is not: verify each output independently, then test them together. A successful single-stream test does not establish that the combined workload is sustainable.
- The OBS steps you find do not match your version: use the current OBS documentation for your installed release. YouTube’s multiple-stream support is not a substitute for OBS-specific instructions.
Local OBS setup or cloud operation?
A local encoder keeps the processing on your computer and depends on its capacity and your upload connection. YouTube also describes cloud encoding as an option that can reduce the load on an older or slower local computer; whether a particular service can produce two independent prerecorded outputs depends on that service’s capabilities and plan.
