How local PC-game play on Android works
Winlator WB64 describes itself as an Android app for running Windows x86_64 applications and games with Wine and Box86/Box64. In this setup, the game runs on the phone through a compatibility stack; it is neither a native Android release nor a stream from a PC. It is also not a guarantee that every Windows game will launch. Because several components must work together—the phone’s hardware, graphics support, compatibility software, and game edition—launching, graphics, sound, controls, battery and thermal behavior, and stability can vary. Original Skyrim and Skyrim Special Edition are separate PC targets with different published requirements. Confirm the edition in your library before choosing files or troubleshooting. Bethesda’s listed requirements are for Windows PCs, not Android phones, and should not be treated as equivalent phone specifications.

These requirements describe the original Windows target. A phone’s RAM figure or GPU brand cannot be compared directly with a listed PC component to predict compatibility across different architectures and software layers.
Screen your phone and app version
The Winlator WB64 project documentation lists these minimums for that edition: Android 9 or later, Snapdragon 460 or higher, Adreno 610 or higher, Vulkan 1.1 or higher, and 2 GB of free storage. They are the project’s stated app requirements, not Skyrim requirements or a guarantee that either edition will run well. Requirements may differ across forks or releases, so check the current project documentation before installing.

- Confirm the phone’s Android version, chipset, GPU, and Vulkan support.
- Check available storage; the Winlator WB64 README lists 2 GB free for the app, separate from the space required for game files.
- Compare the exact Skyrim edition’s PC requirements for context, but do not use them as an Android pass/fail test.
Set up the game through a legitimate PC library
- Identify your edition. Check the title in your PC game library; do not mix files or requirements for original Skyrim and Special Edition.
- Install the compatibility app from its project source. Review the current Winlator WB64 documentation for supported Android versions, hardware, and setup notes.
- Use your legitimate game copy and its files. Bethesda identifies Steam as the PC store route for Special Edition, and its troubleshooting material refers to the installed Windows game directory. Bethesda’s pages do not establish terms for every transfer or execution method, so check the applicable platform terms rather than assuming a particular method is approved. - Configure the app environment. Winlator uses Wine and x86 translation components; its documentation describes configuring an environment or container. The exact settings are not a universal Skyrim recipe.
- Try launching and adjust only as needed. The project documentation describes per-game shortcuts and adjustments for some issues. Treat these as troubleshooting options: a setting that helps one phone or game does not establish a working configuration for another.
Controls: touchscreen or gamepad
Touch controls may be an option in the compatibility app, but a phone-compatible Bluetooth gamepad can make a PC game easier to control. It is optional, and Android compatibility does not by itself certify that a controller will work through a particular app setup.
Bethesda’s instructions for enabling a controller in Skyrim Special Edition on PC are: press Esc to open the pause menu, then choose Settings and Gameplay. That is a game setting, not proof that a specific Android controller or Winlator configuration is supported. Bethesda controller instructions.

What to try if it will not launch
- Recheck the edition and game files. Verify that the installed files match the edition you intend to run.
- Recheck the app’s current requirements. Confirm the Android version, chipset, GPU, Vulkan support, and storage against the current documentation for the exact app build.
- Use the project’s per-game troubleshooting guidance. Compatibility and graphics settings may require adjustment; there is no single documented setting set that guarantees Skyrim compatibility.
- Keep expectations bounded. Without device-specific evidence for your phone, app version, edition, and settings, a successful launch or smooth play cannot be predicted.
Should you try another app?
GameHub is another reported route for Windows games on Android, but a 2025 Android Central report does not establish that it runs a particular Skyrim edition on a particular device. Android Central’s GameHub report describes setup as potentially involving compatibility work. Compare apps using current hardware and graphics support, edition-specific compatibility evidence, setup complexity, legitimate library access, control mapping, and whether play is local or streamed; available evidence here does not support naming a Skyrim winner.
