For the simplest fire-safe setup, use a battery-operated flameless light or glow stick near your LEGO Halloween display—not an open-flame candle. If you want light built into a model, LEGO’s Powered Up Light 88005 is an option for a compatible Powered Up setup. Keep lighting away from heat and flames, inspect any decorative strands, and route cords so they cannot trip visitors or block an exit.
Choose lighting that suits the display
Think about whether you want light integrated into a model or ambient light around it, then check the power source, placement, and indoor or outdoor rating. Safety guidance from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) addresses Halloween decorations and decorative lighting generally; it does not certify a particular LEGO build or lighting arrangement.

Inspect strands and match equipment to its location
Before using a decorative light strand, check the entire strand—not just the section visible on the display. CPSC recommends products tested by a recognized laboratory and says to discard strands with cracked or broken sockets, frayed or bare wires, or loose connections. Do not use damaged strands.
Use extension cords rated for their intended use. For outdoor lighting, CPSC says to use products labeled for outdoor use and plug them into GFCI-protected receptacles. CPSC decorating guidance.

Place the display without creating a trip or exit hazard
- Arrange the model, lights, and cords so visitors cannot trip over them.
- Keep decorations clear of exits. If the display is near an entry or path used by trick-or-treaters, remove obstacles from lawns, steps, and porches.
- Do not conceal a light or power component where it cannot be inspected or used according to its instructions.
- Keep small batteries away from young children.
