To run members-only events in WordPress, connect a membership system that identifies who qualifies with an event plugin that can enforce the access rule you need. First decide whether non-members should be unable to see an event, unable to register, or unable to select particular tickets. Those are separate controls, and the exact setup depends on the plugins installed.
Choose what “members-only” means for each event
Before configuring plugins, define what an ineligible visitor should experience. An event can be hidden entirely, visible with its registration form blocked, or visible with only certain tickets restricted. A role-limited ticket, for example, may restrict who can book without hiding the event page. - Hide the event: Ineligible visitors should not find it in the calendar or event archive, and direct access should be restricted if that is part of the requirement.
- Show the event, block registration: Visitors may learn about the event, but only eligible members can submit the booking form.
- Restrict tickets: The event remains visible, but ticket options are available only to selected membership levels.
Confirm how the chosen plugin behaves on the event archive, the direct event URL, and the registration page; restricting one surface does not establish that the others are restricted too.

Membership levels are not automatically understood by every event plugin. One documented pattern is to assign a WordPress user role to each membership level, then configure the event plugin to allow that role to book or see a ticket. These are plugin-specific examples, not built-in WordPress membership behavior or a guarantee that any two plugins integrate. Check whether your membership plugin can assign the roles or other access data your event plugin expects, and verify the integration against the versions installed on your site.
Select registration features that fit the event
Registrations for The Events Calendar is an example of an add-on-based workflow: its WordPress.org listing says it requires The Events Calendar and describes per-event registration limits, deadlines, registration management, and exports. The listing identifies online payment and other workflow features as Pro features, so verify the current edition’s feature set before choosing it: Registrations for The Events Calendar on WordPress.org.

Compare candidate setups against the needs of the event, rather than assuming every plugin includes the same controls:

- Access granularity: Can the rule apply to the whole event, the booking form, or individual ticket types?
- Membership mapping: Can membership levels map to roles or another rule the event plugin can evaluate?
- Registration operations: Check deadlines, attendee records, exports, cancellations, confirmation emails, and payment support.
- Capacity: Determine whether different ticket types draw from one shared event limit, and whether registrations can be limited per user.
- Guest experience: Decide what logged-out visitors and ineligible members see, including on calendars, archives, and direct links.
- Compatibility: Check current integration support and how the setup behaves with the site’s cache configuration.
Configure one event, then test all access states
- Write down the intended rule. Specify which membership levels qualify and whether the event, form, or ticket should be hidden or blocked.
- Set up membership identification. If the event plugin checks WordPress roles, map each relevant membership level to the intended role using the membership plugin’s settings.
- Configure the event restriction. Apply the rule at the correct level—event visibility, booking form, or ticket—and set any registration deadlines or limits required.
- Test as a logged-out visitor. Check the archive or calendar, open the direct event URL, and try to reach the registration form.
- Test each membership tier. Sign in with accounts representing eligible and ineligible levels. Confirm that each sees only the intended event information and ticket options.
- Complete a test registration. For an eligible account, submit the form and check the confirmation email and the resulting attendee record in the admin area. Then confirm that an ineligible account cannot complete the booking.
- Repeat after changing cache settings or access rules. A historical support thread reports investigating caching and configuration during a membership-filtering issue; it does not establish a current general defect, but it is a reason to test the actual site after changes: support discussion of a membership-filtering integration issue.
Check shared capacity when offering member and public tickets
A staged arrangement—making a member ticket available before a public ticket—can be useful, but separate ticket limits may not necessarily enforce one shared event capacity. A WordPress.org discussion raises this concern for a ticket setup: discussion of member and public ticket limits. Before using this design for a venue with a strict cap, verify how your selected plugin counts registrations across ticket types and test the capacity behavior, including what happens when the event fills.
