To disable RSS feeds in WordPress, choose whether you want to stop feed URLs from working, remove feed-discovery links from your site’s HTML, or do both. Those are separate changes: hiding a link does not disable the feed endpoint. For most site owners who want feeds unavailable, a plugin offers the simplest configurable route; use code when you need narrowly tailored behavior and can test it on your site.
Choose what you want to disable
WordPress provides multiple feed formats and endpoints—not just one RSS URL—including RDF/RSS 1.0, RSS 0.92, RSS 2.0, Atom, and comments feeds. Common documented patterns include /feed for RSS 2.0, /feed/atom for Atom, and /comments/feed for comments; the exact URL can vary with site configuration. See the WordPress feeds reference.
- Disable feed requests: Make feed URLs redirect or return an error instead of serving a feed.
- Keep selected feeds: For example, preserve global posts and comments feeds while disabling other feed types.
- Remove discovery links: Stop WordPress or the theme from advertising feeds in page markup. The feed URLs can still work.
If you need feeds to stop working, removing links alone is not enough. Decide whether a redirect or a 404 response is appropriate, and whether any feeds should remain available.
Disable feeds with a plugin
The WordPress.org listing for Disable Feeds WP says its default behavior redirects feed requests to corresponding HTML content. Its documented settings can instead return a 404 or allow global post and comment feeds while disabling other feeds. These are publisher-described capabilities, not independently tested results; check the current listing and compatibility with your WordPress version before installing.

- In the WordPress admin, open Plugins → Add New and search for Disable Feeds WP.
- Check the plugin’s current WordPress.org listing for its release details and compatibility, then install and activate it if it suits your site.
- Open the plugin’s settings in the admin and choose the request behavior and any global post or comment feeds you want to preserve. The precise settings path and labels may change; follow the current plugin documentation.
- Test representative feed URLs in a private browser window or another session where you are not relying on cached results. Confirm that each URL redirects or returns the intended response, and check any feeds you chose to retain.
The listing notes that links output separately by a theme may need separate removal, including links from widgets. Another WordPress.org plugin, Disable RSS, RDF, and Atom Feeds, also describes redirect or 404 behavior and an option to retain global post and comment feeds. Those are publisher descriptions rather than a comparative or independent evaluation.
Remove feed-discovery links without disabling endpoints
WordPress’s feed_links() function prints general posts and comments feed links when the theme supports automatic feed links. It provides separate filters for those two kinds of discovery links: feed_links_show_posts_feed and feed_links_show_comments_feed. The function reference documents both filters.

- Multiple Playback Modes & Alarms: Supports alarm via favorite station, FM, or tone. Sleep timer, kitchen timer, podcast playback with resume function, and remote web control via Skytune website.
For example, add the following to a site-specific plugin or an existing custom functionality plugin to suppress those links:
add_filter( 'feed_links_show_posts_feed', '__return_false' );
add_filter( 'feed_links_show_comments_feed', '__return_false' );
This suppresses links generated by feed_links(); it does not disable feed requests, nor does it necessarily remove markup generated by a theme, widget, or another plugin. Test the page source and the feed URLs separately.

Why code that disables feed requests needs testing
WordPress routes feed requests through feed-specific actions. The do_feed() reference says that when an action for a feed is not hooked, core terminates with an invalid-feed message and a 404 response. That behavior does not make removing feed hooks a universally safe recipe: the result can depend on the feed type, WordPress version, plugins, and the behavior your site needs.
A custom request-handling change should be tested on a staging site against every feed you intend to disable and every feed you intend to retain. If you are not prepared to verify those outcomes, use a maintained plugin with settings that match your intended redirect or 404 behavior.

Put persistent functionality in the right place
WordPress documents functions.php as a place for theme functionality. Its Theme Functions handbook explains that automatic feed links are enabled by default for block themes; classic themes can enable them with add_theme_support( 'automatic-feed-links' ). Theme file changes are tied to that theme and can be lost when switching themes. For behavior intended to remain active regardless of appearance, WordPress recommends using a plugin instead.

Verify the result
- Open the site’s HTML source and check whether the feed-discovery links you meant to remove are still present.
- Request the relevant posts, Atom, and comments feed URLs directly; do not infer endpoint behavior from the absence of a link.
- Check the response: does it redirect, return a 404, or continue to display a feed?
- Repeat the checks for feeds you intend to keep and for any theme or widget output that may add its own links.
