You can run a 24/7 YouTube loop from an Indian VPS by playing a video in OBS Studio and sending the output to YouTube Live over RTMPS. The VPS must sustain the video encoding and provide enough monthly outbound transfer; a low advertised price or vCPU count alone does not prove it can do either. Start with a modest profile, test the complete stream, and check the provider’s streaming and traffic terms before committing.
How the VPS-to-YouTube loop works
OBS runs on the VPS, not your home computer. Add a video file as a looping Media Source, configure OBS with the YouTube-provided RTMPS server URL and stream key, then start streaming. The VPS encodes and sends the video while it is running. This is a do-it-yourself setup: you are responsible for the VPS, OBS session, security, monitoring and recovery.

YouTube recommends RTMPS, which carries RTMP over TLS/SSL. The connection uses port 443 and the correct YouTube RTMPS endpoint and path. Use the server URL shown for your broadcast in Live Control Room; do not substitute a generic endpoint or assume that opening port 1935 is required for RTMPS. OBS’s service configuration lists YouTube RTMPS endpoint values, but the URL and key presented for your broadcast should guide your setup: YouTube’s RTMPS guidance and OBS’s service configuration.
Choose an output profile the VPS can sustain
YouTube’s encoder guidance, accessed in 2026, specifies H.264, H.265 or AV1 video, frame rates up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. For ordinary stereo audio, YouTube recommends AAC or MP3 at 128 Kbps. The H.264 bitrate values below are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees that a particular VPS can encode them without dropped frames.

These values and the keyframe guidance come from YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance. A pre-encoded compatible source file or a lower output profile may reduce encoding work, but confirm the source and output compatibility in OBS. A provider’s listed vCPU count is not evidence that its CPU allocation can encode continuously.
Estimate monthly outbound transfer
At a constant 6 Mbps for 30 days, video payload alone is about 1.94 decimal TB. That is calculated as 6,000,000 bits per second × 2,592,000 seconds ÷ 8; it is not a YouTube or provider statistic and excludes audio and transport overhead. Actual usage depends on the configured bitrate and stream duration. A plan with 100 GB of transfer cannot cover a full month at that video rate unless the provider applies a different traffic policy.

Before choosing a plan, check the monthly transfer allowance, which traffic direction counts, overage charges and any fair-use conditions. Compare the allowed transfer with your intended bitrate and runtime, leaving headroom for audio and protocol overhead. Also distinguish an uplink speed claim from a transfer allowance: one describes rate, the other how much traffic is included.

There is no universal low-cost Indian VPS specification established for every video, frame rate and runtime. The examples below are provider listings, not tested recommendations; availability and checkout terms can change. Confirm taxes, setup fees, exact plan, node location and streaming policy with the provider before paying.

Compare total monthly cost including GST and setup charges; vCPU type and whether allocation is shared or dedicated; RAM and storage; transfer volume and overages; sustained throughput; India location and route to YouTube ingest; outbound RTMPS access; operating system and remote graphical-session support; backup and recovery options; support; and cancellation or refund terms. Test the actual stream before choosing a longer billing cycle. Do not treat an “unmetered” label as equivalent to a capped plan without checking fair use and port-speed details.
The National Informatics Centre webcast guidance mentions 2–4 Mbps dedicated bandwidth per stream in its own context; it is not YouTube’s encoder recommendation. Its page also discusses outbound RTMP port 1935 for that context. For YouTube RTMPS, confirm outbound access to the actual encrypted endpoint on port 443 with the VPS provider or network administrator rather than opening ports based on unrelated guidance: NIC webcast guidance.

Set up YouTube Live and protect the stream key
- Configure the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room. Create the live broadcast and locate its server URL and stream key. Follow the current prompts shown for your channel. An older OBS community guide says the channel must be verified to use its integrated flow and advises waiting 24 hours after verification; that timing is not confirmed here by current official YouTube Help, so rely on the prompts in your account: OBS community onboarding guide.
- Keep the key private. Do not put it in screenshots, public configuration snippets, logs or a public repository. Treat it like a password; if it is exposed, replace or reset it through YouTube’s controls.
- Confirm network access. The VPS must be able to make the outbound RTMPS connection to the correct YouTube endpoint on port 443. Ask the provider or administrator about outbound rules if the connection fails; do not assume inbound port access is needed for this workflow.
Install and configure OBS on the VPS
- Choose an operating system and remote-access setup. Provision an OS compatible with the OBS build you plan to install, and ensure you can maintain the graphical session OBS needs. Remote desktop and display/session arrangements vary by OS and installation; check the current OBS instructions for your chosen environment rather than assuming a server image is ready for desktop applications.
- Install a supported OBS Studio build. Use the OBS Project’s current installation guidance for the VPS operating system. Keep OBS and the OS updated, and restrict remote administration to the access you need.
- Configure YouTube as the streaming service. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube RTMPS or the appropriate YouTube service preset, then enter the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Menu labels and available controls can differ by OBS version and operating system.
- Add the loop source. In the Sources panel, use + and add a Media Source. Select the video file and enable Loop. Check that the file is available to the VPS and that the source plays and restarts at its end.
- Set the output deliberately. In Settings > Output, select an encoder available in the VPS environment and configure a CBR bitrate appropriate to the output. In Settings > Video, set the intended resolution and frame rate. Set a two-second keyframe interval and keep it no longer than four seconds. For an H.264 720p30 starting test, YouTube’s recommended video bitrate is 6 Mbps; use that as a platform reference, not an assumption that the VPS has adequate encoding capacity.
- Configure audio and inspect the result. Use an audio codec and bitrate consistent with YouTube’s guidance—AAC or MP3 and 128 Kbps for ordinary stereo—and verify the correct source is audible. Check that the video dimensions, frame rate and encoder output match what you intend to send.
Test the full stream before relying on it
- Start with a private, unlisted or otherwise suitable test broadcast, where those options are available for your channel and broadcast.
- Start the loop in OBS and check that the video and audio play correctly, the media reaches its end and starts again, and the stream reaches YouTube.
- Watch OBS CPU load, dropped frames and network throughput while the stream runs. Check YouTube’s stream health and messages in Live Control Room.
- Test the connection and the media source over enough time to catch interruptions or a failed loop. YouTube Help says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream,” and advises, “During the event, monitor the stream health and review messages.” See YouTube’s encoder guidance.
- If the intended use is unattended, restart the VPS and verify that your chosen session and OBS startup arrangement behave as expected. A successful manual start does not establish that the stream will resume after a reboot.
Secure and maintain the unattended setup
- Limit remote administration to trusted access, use strong authentication where supported, and keep the OS and OBS current.
- Store the stream key privately and avoid including it in scripts, logs or screenshots that others can access.
- Use monitoring or restart arrangements appropriate to your operating system and skill level. Do not assume OBS or YouTube will recover from every VPS failure or broadcast interruption; the result depends on your configuration and YouTube’s active broadcast state.
- Recheck provider transfer use and billing, and review YouTube stream health after changes to the source video, output settings or VPS.
Troubleshooting common failures
