You can run FFmpeg to send a live video feed to YouTube over JioFiber, but the right bitrate depends on your connection’s measured, sustained upload speed—not the plan’s advertised download speed. Create a stream in YouTube Studio, use its current ingest URL and stream key, configure FFmpeg for YouTube’s supported settings, then test the connection before broadcasting publicly.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube account with live streaming enabled and a stream created or scheduled in YouTube Studio.
- A computer with FFmpeg installed and built with the protocols and encoders you plan to use.
- A video source, such as a prerecorded file, and an internet connection whose outbound capacity can sustain the chosen stream bitrate.
- The current YouTube ingest URL and stream key from the stream’s settings.
This guide focuses on streaming a file through FFmpeg. A camera or screen-capture source requires a platform-specific FFmpeg input device and may need separate device permissions and input options.

Create the YouTube stream and get its ingest details
- In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live, then create or schedule a stream.
- Open the stream’s settings and copy the displayed stream URL and stream key. Use the current values shown there; do not rely on an ingest endpoint copied from an old guide.
- Treat the key like a password. If someone else gets it, reset it in Live Control Room and update FFmpeg with the replacement. YouTube explains stream keys at Manage live stream settings.
YouTube’s encoder setup instructions are at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Choose settings that fit your upload connection
Measure upload capacity, not download speed
Run an upload-speed test on the computer and JioFiber connection you will actually use. Repeat it near the time you expect to stream and consider other household traffic. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% of upload bandwidth unused beyond the stream’s total bitrate; shared network use can reduce what is available to your computer. Its guidance is in Streaming tips.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
For example, if your measured sustained upload is 10 Mbps, a stream using the full 10 Mbps leaves no room for fluctuations or other traffic. The 20% headroom guidance implies keeping the stream’s total bitrate at roughly 8 Mbps or less in that example. This is a planning calculation, not a guarantee that a connection will remain stable.
Match resolution and bitrate
YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations for common resolutions are listed below. They are platform recommendations, not a promise that any particular JioFiber line can sustain them. A listed minimum is not a stability guarantee.
| Resolution and frame rate | H.264 minimum | H.264 recommended |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
When upload capacity is limited or varies, lower the resolution or frame rate rather than setting a bitrate your connection cannot sustain. Choose image detail against available bandwidth, and leave headroom for other network use. YouTube may update its recommendations, so check its live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions when configuring your stream.

Use compatible encoding and keyframe settings
YouTube’s current live encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, frame rates up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP(S). It recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, with intervals no longer than four seconds. For stereo audio, the listed recommendation is 44.1 kHz at 128 kbps; Rec. 709 is listed for SDR. This command uses H.264 and AAC, with a two-second keyframe interval.
Send a prerecorded file with FFmpeg
FFmpeg documents real-time pacing for file input and FLV output for an RTMP destination. The following is a template, not a tested command for every FFmpeg build, file, or JioFiber connection. Replace the placeholders with values appropriate to your video and the exact server URL and key shown in YouTube Studio.
ffmpeg -re -i input_file -c:v libx264 -b:v TARGET -maxrate TARGET -bufsize BUFFER -g KEYFRAME_INTERVAL -c:a aac -b:a 128k -f flv 'rtmps://CURRENT_YOUTUBE_INGEST/STREAM_KEY'

input_fileis the path to your video.TARGETis the chosen video bitrate, for example8Mfor a target of 8 Mbps. Set it to a level your sustained upload can handle with headroom.BUFFERis the encoder buffer size, chosen consistently with the target bitrate and encoding setup.KEYFRAME_INTERVALmust correspond to a two-second interval. Set the GOP length to twice the video frame rate—for example, 60 frames at 30 fps or 120 frames at 60 fps.- Set the output resolution and frame rate to your intended stream settings. If scaling is needed, configure it deliberately rather than assuming the input file has the desired output dimensions.
- Replace the sample destination with the current YouTube ingest URL and stream key format displayed in Studio. Keep the key private.
The command’s -re option paces file input in real time; -f flv selects the output format used in FFmpeg’s documented RTMP pattern. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. FFmpeg’s protocol documentation describes RTMPS as RTMP over a secure SSL connection and distinguishes the available protocols: FFmpeg Protocols Documentation. Confirm your installed build supports the selected protocol and libx264 encoder; encoder availability depends on how FFmpeg was built.
This file command is not a universal recipe for cameras, screen capture, or every input format. For those sources, replace the file input with the correct device input and verify permissions and stream mapping for your platform.
Test and monitor the stream
- Start with a private or unlisted test stream.
- Use sample content with movement and audio representative of the real broadcast; a static or silent test may not reveal problems that appear with the actual material.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health messages. Confirm the picture, audio, resolution, and connection look right before making the event public.
- Monitor the event while it is live. If YouTube reports poor health or the stream breaks up, reduce bitrate or resolution and repeat the test.
YouTube advises testing the encoder and monitoring stream health. Its network guidance also notes that interruptions can break a stream: Streaming tips.

JioFiber: what you can and cannot assume
There is no single upload figure established here for every JioFiber plan or subscriber. Do not infer upstream speed from the advertised download rate: measure the actual outbound connection on the streaming computer, check it again around broadcast time, and account for other devices using the network. Your private test is the practical check that the chosen settings work on your line.
No special JioFiber ingest URL, account-specific upstream cap, or router setting for YouTube streaming is established here. Ordinary outbound RTMPS streaming is not shown to require inbound port forwarding or a public/static IP. If FFmpeg cannot connect, investigate the actual error and your computer’s firewall, VPN, router, and internet path rather than assuming a Jio-specific requirement. The protocol details are documented by the FFmpeg project.

Troubleshooting common failures
| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg fails before connecting | Input path or device, local permissions, protocol support, or encoder availability | Verify the input works locally, check the FFmpeg error output, and confirm the build supports the chosen protocol and encoder. |
| YouTube does not accept the feed | Ingest URL, stream key, or stream setup | Copy the current URL and key from the correct YouTube Studio stream. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update the command. |
| The stream connects but preview or health is poor | Bitrate, resolution, or unstable upload | Reduce bitrate or resolution, check upload capacity and competing household use, then run another private test. |
| The stream drops during broadcast | Network interruption or insufficient sustained upload capacity | Check the network path and household traffic; retest at a lower bitrate with headroom and monitor stream health. |
| Audio or video settings are rejected or behave unexpectedly | Codec, frame rate, keyframe interval, or output configuration | Compare the FFmpeg output settings with YouTube’s current encoder guidance and adjust the command to match the intended resolution and frame rate. |
Copyright and YouTube live access
Use video and audio you have rights to stream, including any music, footage, or other material in a prerecorded file. A technically valid FFmpeg feed does not grant permission to broadcast its contents. YouTube’s live-streaming help explains current platform setup and requirements; check the rules that apply to your channel and content before going live.
