Before choosing a local computer or cloud service, secure rights to every recording and visual, enable livestreaming on your channel, and plan for outages and YouTube’s 12-hour archive limitation.
1. Clear the rights to your music, rain audio, and visuals
Use piano performances, rain recordings, and visuals that you created or are licensed to use for the intended YouTube livestream and any resulting archive. Finding a recording or image online—or seeing it described as royalty-free—does not establish that you have broadcast and archive permission. Rights can differ for the composition, a particular recording, territories, monetization, and saving a replay.

YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the streamer to hold the rights needed for worldwide use on Google services, including applicable music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Read the terms at YouTube Help: Live stream requirements. Crediting a creator or using an old composition does not by itself clear every right in a recording or arrangement.
2. Choose how to keep the program running
An encoder converts your audiovisual feed into a format YouTube can receive. YouTube describes software, standalone hardware, and cloud-service options. Its encoder guidance lists OBS as free, open-source software and names Gyre and Upstream as cloud options; YouTube notes that listed encoders are not made by YouTube, so their appearance on the page is not an endorsement or service guarantee. See YouTube Help: Live streaming encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

| Approach | What it means for a continuous channel | Consider before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Local encoder | A computer runs the playback and sends the stream to YouTube. | The computer, power, internet connection, and encoder process must keep working. You control the local playback setup, but need a recovery plan for interruptions. |
| Cloud streaming | A cloud service runs the prerecorded program and sends it to YouTube. | You depend on the provider’s account, workflow, service, and fees. Check how uploads, storage, recovery, and stream control work for the provider you choose. |
YouTube’s documentation confirms both broad approaches but does not establish a universal best choice, comparable costs, or service reliability for this channel. If you want a cloud option, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded YouTube program running from the cloud: any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with the first day free.
3. Enable livestreaming and create a YouTube stream
- Check channel eligibility. Your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
- Open Live Control Room. Create or schedule a livestream and retrieve its stream URL and stream key. YouTube describes the key as functioning like the password and address that allow your encoder to send its feed. Keep it private; anyone with access may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- Configure the encoder. Enter YouTube’s stream destination and key in your software, hardware, or cloud encoder. Set up the prepared rain audio, piano program, and visual, then wait for YouTube’s preview before starting the event.
- Check the viewing experience. Confirm that the stream appears on the intended channel or watch page and can be viewed on mobile devices. Listen for balanced levels, silence, clipping, or abrupt changes, and check that the visual is playing as intended.
4. Set bandwidth and test reliability
Use an upload connection with enough capacity for the stream bitrate, plus headroom. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend leaving 20% of upload bandwidth unused for the stream; if you send primary and backup feeds, account for both. A connection that is merely fast enough under ideal conditions may not withstand competing household or office traffic.

- Acoustic Piano Feel - Touch-sensitive keys allow for true expression and dynamic performance. The weighted action replicates the acoustic piano experience
- Elevated Sound - Choose from 10 unique Voices, including the richness and resonance of a Yamaha grand piano, with full dynamic sound and deep bass
- Effortless Control - Simple one-button operation and streamlined functionality designed to keep you focused on your music
- Layered Sound - Dual Mode lets you blend two Voices, like piano and strings, creating a rich, layered sound for an inspiring new playing experience
- Included sustain pedal allows for subtle variations and greater expression in your performances
- Set up the encoder ahead of the planned start and preview the feed before going live.
- Monitor audio and video continuously where possible; a running indicator alone does not confirm that viewers are receiving a usable program.
- If you have a primary and backup encoder, test failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its network, then check that playback switches to the backup.
- Decide how the playlist or source will resume after a computer, encoder, network, or provider interruption. A single encoder does not provide automatic failover by itself.

5. Plan separately for live continuity and replay archives
A continuous live broadcast and a complete saved replay are different goals. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as an archive backup. See YouTube Help: Archive live streams.

- USB-MIDI Connection - Simply plug the Recital Play into a Mac or PC to utilize most recording and educational piano software, like the included premium lessons from Skoove and Melodics
If preserving a replay matters, record locally and decide whether your workflow should use shorter stream sessions rather than assuming one 24/7 broadcast will produce a complete VOD. Confirm that your recording has enough disk space and that it is actually being saved; cloud playback alone does not create a local backup on your computer.

YouTube applies its channel monetization policy to livestreams. It says monetized content should be original and authentic, not mass-produced, generic, repetitive, or manipulative. A channel built around rain and piano can develop a recognizable, viewer-serving identity through original performances, considered programming and variation, intentional sound design, and original visual treatment. These choices do not guarantee monetization approval. Review YouTube channel monetization policies.

Eligible monetized livestreams may use pre-roll, display, and mid-roll ads, but ads are not guaranteed to run for every viewer. YouTube recommends automatic live mid-rolls and says they may run at natural breakpoints. YouTube reported that channels choosing automatic live mid-rolls saw an average uplift of over 20% in instream ad revenue per hour compared with channels that did not, averaged across 207 countries in January 2024. That is a platform-reported comparison, not a forecast for an individual channel. Details: YouTube Help: Manage live stream ad breaks.
