You can run a continuous YouTube Live product catalog from a mini PC by using it to run an encoder such as OBS, then sending the encoded feed to YouTube over a stable internet connection. Product tagging is a separate YouTube Shopping feature: it appears only when your channel, products, content, and viewers’ regions meet YouTube’s requirements.
YouTube does not certify a particular mini PC or publish a minimum CPU, GPU, or RAM requirement for this setup. Choose hardware based on the encoder, resolution, and frame rate you intend to run, and test it before relying on it for continuous operation.

What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming help and live-streaming tips.
- A mini PC capable of running your chosen encoder and producing the catalog feed at the output settings you select. YouTube’s guidance does not establish a minimum hardware specification or endorse a specific model.
- Encoder software installed on the mini PC, such as OBS, or a standalone hardware encoder. YouTube supports both software running on a computer and standalone encoders; the setup below focuses on a computer-based encoder.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for your stream and recommended headroom.
- A prepared video or scene showing the products, plus rights to all video, audio, images, and music included in the stream.
Set up the mini PC and YouTube stream
1. Enable live streaming and create the event
- In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming workflow and enable live streaming if it is not already active. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Create or schedule the stream in YouTube Studio or Live Control Room. Set the title, visibility, and audience details, and choose a start time appropriate for your channel.
- Keep the stream private or unlisted while configuring and testing it. Do not publish a public event until you have checked the video, audio, and product presentation.
2. Configure your encoder
- Install and open your encoder on the mini PC. Add the video source or playlist that will form the catalog presentation. Configure audio deliberately; a silent catalog may be appropriate, but check that the encoder is not sending unintended noise or copyrighted music.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, locate the stream URL and stream key, then enter them in the encoder’s streaming settings. Prefer RTMPS, which encrypts the connection; YouTube recommends it. Keep the stream key secret. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your event.
- Choose a resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and keyframe interval that the mini PC can sustain. YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS, frame rates up to 60 fps, constant bitrate, and a two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds). Check the current YouTube encoder settings before launch because recommendations can change.
For reference, YouTube’s published bitrate recommendations include the following examples. These are encoder settings, not a guarantee that your internet plan has sufficient upload capacity.

Do not select a high-output profile just because the mini PC or camera can produce it. For a mostly static product catalog, a stable, well-lit 1080p feed may be more useful than a higher resolution that overloads the encoder or connection. The table values are YouTube’s recommendations for the specified codec, resolution, and frame rate; they do not account for other devices using your connection or a backup stream.

3. Check your upload connection and test
- Measure outbound bandwidth from the location where the mini PC will run. YouTube recommends about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom over the stream bitrate. Leave additional capacity for other network traffic and any backup stream.
- Start the encoder while the event is still private or unlisted. Check the Live Control Room preview for framing, readable product details, audio levels, and motion.
- Let the test run long enough to reveal likely problems: dropped frames, overheating, unstable Wi-Fi, unexpected sleep, or an encoder process that stops. YouTube recommends testing the stream and monitoring stream health.
- If you have a separate backup encoder and connection, test failover. A single mini PC and one internet connection do not become redundant simply because the stream is intended to run continuously.
- When the test is satisfactory, confirm the event’s visibility and start or schedule the public stream.
YouTube recommends testing outbound bandwidth and monitoring stream health. Its network and encoder guidance is useful for diagnosing connection issues.
How to tag products in the live catalog
Sending an encoder feed to YouTube does not automatically create product tags. Tagging depends on YouTube Shopping access and the availability and relevance of the products for the channel and viewers.

Check eligibility before building the catalog around tags
- For products from other brands, the channel must meet YouTube Shopping eligibility requirements and each product must be available through a selected retailer.
- Tag display can depend on the viewer’s country or region and whether delivery is available there. A tag that you can select may not appear to every viewer.
- YouTube says tags are not shown for certain content, including made-for-kids videos, content with claims, paid content, or content considered limited or ineligible for monetization. Review YouTube’s current YouTube Shopping product-tagging guidance.
- Product tags should be relevant to what the stream shows. Keep products prominent and use appropriate paid-placement and endorsement disclosures where applicable.
- You must own or clear the rights to the stream content, including any music. Product tagging does not grant permission to use someone else’s video, images, or soundtrack.
YouTube lists its Shopping affiliate program for eligible creators based in Argentina, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam. Listed conditions include participation in the YouTube Partner Program, meeting its subscriber threshold, and not being a music channel, Official Artist Channel, or associated music partner; audience restrictions also apply. The country list and terms can change, so verify the current status in YouTube Studio and YouTube’s Shopping eligibility information before planning around affiliate tags or earnings.

Select, order, and pin products
- Before the event, open the Shopping tab in YouTube Studio and select eligible products.
- Arrange the products in the order viewers should encounter them. YouTube’s live-shopping guidance recommends planning the stream’s purpose, structure, pace, product count, and sequence. As YouTube puts it, “For successful shopping live streams, planning is key. It can keep your live stream focused and well-structured.” See YouTube’s live-shopping guidance.
- During the live stream, use the available Shopping controls to tag products or pin one for emphasis. Changes made during a stream may not appear immediately for viewers already watching, so finish the selection and ordering in advance where possible.
- Check the viewer-facing stream after launch. Product availability and regional display can differ from what you see in your own account.
Plan for continuous operation
A mini PC can send an encoder feed, but continuous operation depends on the whole chain: the computer, encoder, power, network, and YouTube ingest. The YouTube sources explain encoder and network setup but do not provide a mini-PC-specific continuous-operation guarantee or a required hardware specification.

- Disable sleep or automatic shutdown for the period the stream must run, and ensure the encoder launches with the correct scene and event settings after a restart.
- Use reliable power and a wired network connection when practical. If you use Wi-Fi, test it at the actual operating location.
- Monitor the Live Control Room and the mini PC. A stream that appears live can still have poor audio, frozen visuals, or dropped frames.
- Decide how you will respond to a power cut, lost internet, encoder crash, or YouTube ingest interruption. YouTube’s recovery and failover guidance does not make a single-computer arrangement fault-tolerant.
Troubleshooting common failures
