Before you set up the loop
Enable YouTube live streaming
You need a verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-streaming enablement can take up to 24 hours, so check channel readiness well before the promotion. For a software encoder such as OBS, create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming.

Decide whether to create the broadcast in advance or start it when ready. For a scheduled event, you will send the encoder feed first, inspect its preview, then select Go live in Live Control Room.

Check rights to the promo assets
Make sure you have the rights needed to broadcast the footage, images, music, and other material in the promo. YouTube’s streaming setup guidance does not determine whether a particular asset is cleared or whether a particular promotion meets local advertising requirements; check those against your content and location.

Build a looping scene in OBS
Loop one promo video
- Open OBS Studio and create or select a scene for the promotion.
- In the Sources box, select + and add a Media Source.
- Give the source a recognizable name, select the local video file, and enable Loop.
- Fit or crop the source to the scene canvas as appropriate. Confirm the canvas dimensions match the output you intend to send.
- Play the scene and check both picture and sound. Ensure audio is deliberate and not unexpectedly muted, doubled, or excessively loud.
OBS documents common supported media formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM. A file being a supported format does not guarantee that every codec, resolution, or frame rate will perform well on every computer, so test the actual asset.
Loop a sequence of promo files
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC; match architectures, using 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS.
- Add a VLC Video source to the scene and add the promo files to its playlist in the order you want them played.
- Enable Loop Playlist, then preview the playlist from beginning to end, including the transition from the last item back to the first.
- Check that every item’s audio and framing are suitable. A playlist can contain files with different dimensions or sound levels, so review the full sequence rather than only its first clip.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
Create the broadcast and copy its connection details
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the event. YouTube treats the key like a password: do not publish it or show it in a screen capture. If it is exposed, a channel owner or manager can reset it.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Choose YouTube as the service and enter the stream key; use the matching server/stream URL if configuring a custom server connection.
- Where supported, use the RTMPS URL supplied in Live Control Room. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure transport option; the encoder must support it.
- Apply the settings and return to the scene. Start streaming from OBS when you are ready to send the feed.
Keep the stream key private and verify that the selected YouTube event is the one you intend to broadcast to. Do not assume that a successful OBS connection means the scheduled event is already public: check the Live Control Room preview and use its Go live control for the scheduled broadcast.

Choose settings the mini PC and connection can sustain
Start with the intended output
Set the OBS output resolution and frame rate for the promotion’s actual needs, then choose an encoder and bitrate that the computer and upload connection can maintain. YouTube’s published recommendation for H.264 at 1080p30 is 14 Mbps; its settings guidance lists CBR and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, with a maximum of four seconds. These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular mini PC or internet service can deliver that stream without interruption.

Test upload capacity and leave enough headroom for a stable send rather than selecting a rate that only works at peak conditions.
- Rate control: Use CBR, as listed in YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second interval where the encoder exposes the control; do not exceed four seconds.
- Resolution and frame rate: Match these to the source material and viewing purpose, and verify the complete OBS scene at the selected output.
- Encoder: OBS supports hardware encoding options such as Intel Quick Sync on supported Intel graphics. Hardware encoding can move work from the CPU to a specialized component, but availability and results depend on the actual hardware and configuration.
Choose a mini PC by its real capabilities
OBS lists Windows 10 or Windows 11 and a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU among its basic requirements, but explicitly cautions that meeting those requirements does not guarantee streaming or recording capability. CPU demand varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. “Mini PC” is a form factor, not a performance grade.

When evaluating a Windows mini PC for OBS streaming, check which encoder its processor or graphics hardware supports, whether it can sustain your target output, and how it handles the planned OBS scene. No particular mini PC model or universal minimum specification is established here. Test the exact machine, media, output settings, and network connection you plan to use.

Test ahead of the event
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Use a test that reflects the real broadcast: representative video motion, playlist transitions, audio, output settings, and the network connection you will use.

- Start OBS streaming and wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room.
- Inspect the preview for correct video, framing, sound, and continuity. Confirm the watch page and event details are correct.
- For a scheduled broadcast, select Go live only after the preview and event are ready.
- During the promotion, keep checking OBS and Live Control Room for picture, audio, and stream-health messages.
End the stream cleanly
When the promotion is over, stop the YouTube event and then stop streaming in OBS. YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume that an event longer than that will be archived in the same way.
