You can broadcast a bhajan, satsang, aarti, or devotional talk from an Android phone using Larix Broadcaster as the encoder and YouTube Live Control Room as the stream controller. Enable live streaming on your channel, create an encoder stream, enter its URL and key in Larix, choose settings your phone and upload connection can sustain, then rehearse before the event.
Before you begin
- An Android phone that can run Larix Broadcaster and remain powered during the event.
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for your chosen video and audio bitrate.
- A quiet, prepared recording location and permission to use the compositions and sound recordings in your stream and any replay.
This is an encoder workflow, not the YouTube mobile-app workflow. YouTube’s mobile-app eligibility page lists requirements including at least 50 subscribers, channel verification, no live restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and Android 8.0 or newer. Those mobile-app requirements should not be confused with the encoder setup process described here. See YouTube’s mobile live-streaming requirements.

1. Enable live streaming and create the YouTube event
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- If this is your first live stream, complete the enablement process and allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Create or schedule a stream using the encoder option. Choose the event’s visibility, title, description, and schedule to suit your audience.
- In the stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key shown for this event. YouTube treats a stream key like a password: keep it private, do not show it on screen or in screenshots, and reset it if it is exposed. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
2. Connect Larix Broadcaster to YouTube
- Install and open Larix Broadcaster for Android. Softvelum documents Larix support for RTMP/RTMPS, H.264 video, AAC audio, and external USB audio devices; device and accessory compatibility can vary. See Larix Broadcaster for Android.
- In Larix’s connection settings, add a connection. Enter the destination URL and stream key using the values from your own YouTube Live Control Room. Larix documentation explains that its Connection URL can combine the server URL and stream name/key; do not copy sample credentials as if they were your live values. See Softvelum’s Larix documentation.
- Use YouTube’s RTMPS URL when available and supported by your Larix setup and network. RTMPS encrypts the connection with TLS/SSL, and YouTube recommends it. In Live Control Room, reveal the RTMPS URL in the stream settings and use that destination rather than assuming a standard URL. See YouTube’s RTMPS instructions.
- Save the connection and confirm it is selected before starting the broadcast.
3. Choose video, bitrate, and audio settings
Start with a stable, ordinary SDR stream. YouTube’s encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), up to 60 frames per second, and AAC or MP3 audio. For stereo AAC, YouTube recommends 44.1 kHz. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Larix’s Android documentation lists H.264 and AAC support. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
| Setting | Practical starting point | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 720p at 30 fps is a sensible starting target for a phone-based devotional stream. | Only choose a higher resolution or frame rate if the phone remains stable and the upload connection can sustain it. |
| Video bitrate | YouTube’s recommended range for 720p at 30 fps is 2–6 Mbps. | This is a platform recommendation, not a guarantee that your specific phone or network can maintain it. |
| Encoding | H.264 with CBR. | Keep the keyframe interval at two seconds; do not exceed four seconds. |
| Audio | AAC stereo at 44.1 kHz is a practical choice. | Check that singing and speech are clear without clipping or overwhelming room noise. |
These are YouTube recommendations; the pages do not display publication years. Run an upload speed test and leave bandwidth headroom. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend 20% headroom, so do not plan to use all available upload capacity for the stream. The total stream bitrate includes audio as well as video. If upload speed varies, lower the video bitrate or resolution and rehearse again. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance and YouTube’s streaming tips.

Make devotional audio intelligible
Test with the actual singer, instruments, microphone distance, and room setup you plan to use. The phone’s built-in microphone is the simplest option. Larix also documents external USB audio support, but connector, adapter, and Android compatibility depend on the phone and equipment; verify them and rehearse before relying on an external microphone. No particular microphone is established as a universal best choice.
4. Rehearse, start, and monitor the broadcast
- Run a rehearsal with movement and sound similar to the event. YouTube specifically advises testing before a live stream.
- Start Larix early enough for YouTube Live Control Room to receive the feed and show its preview.
- Check framing, orientation, exposure, singing or speech level, and the stream health status in Live Control Room. Confirm that the event is accessible from the channel or watch page and on a mobile device.
- When the preview and health check look right, start the event in Live Control Room if the event configuration requires you to click Go Live. Keep an eye on stream health and audio during the program.
- To finish, stop the Larix broadcast and end the event in YouTube Studio when prompted.
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived, but verify the archive and replay settings for your event rather than relying on an assumed replay configuration. See YouTube’s encoder workflow.

5. Choose latency and replay settings for the service
Latency is the delay between capture and what viewers hear and see. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase buffering. If the stream includes live prayer requests or chat-led participation, test the available latency options in Live Control Room on the actual connection. If it is primarily uninterrupted music, aarti, or discourse, favor stable playback over minimizing delay. There is no single best latency setting for every devotional stream.

DVR lets viewers pause and rewind when enabled. Decide whether that behavior suits the event and confirm the relevant setting in Live Control Room. YouTube explains latency and DVR in its live stream settings guidance.

Copyright: clear the song and the recording
Before streaming a commercial recording, backing track, or another performer’s recording, identify both the underlying composition and the particular sound recording. Confirm the rights needed for the live broadcast and any archived replay with the relevant rights holder or a qualified adviser.
Traditional or devotional lyrics do not automatically make a modern arrangement or recording free to use. Rights depend on the specific material and circumstances; a live format does not guarantee that a stream will avoid claims or interruption.

Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start an encoder stream | Live streaming has not been enabled, or first-time activation is still processing. | Check Live Control Room; for first-time activation, allow up to 24 hours. |
| Larix cannot connect | The URL or key is incorrect, or the wrong protocol or destination was entered. | Copy the current URL and key from the event’s Live Control Room settings. Confirm that you used the RTMPS URL if choosing RTMPS; never substitute example credentials. |
| The preview freezes, buffers, or loses quality | The upload connection or phone cannot sustain the selected settings. | Check upload speed, retain bandwidth headroom, and reduce resolution or bitrate. Rehearse again under comparable network conditions. |
| Voice or singing is too quiet, distorted, or hard to understand | Microphone placement, room sound, input level, or an incompatible external audio connection may be at fault. | Rehearse with the real performers and instruments. Adjust distance and levels; if using external USB audio, verify phone compatibility and the connection. |
| The audience experiences too much delay or buffering | Latency settings trade delay against playback stability. | Test the available latency choices in Live Control Room. For interactive participation, test lower latency; for uninterrupted playback, prioritize stability. |
| The replay is unavailable or differs from expectations | Archive or replay settings may not match the event’s needs. | Check the event’s archive and replay settings. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but verify your configuration. |
