You can run a bhajan video stream through OBS by sending a prepared scene to YouTube Live, but OBS on one computer is not, by itself, a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 broadcasting. Enable live streaming on your channel, connect OBS with the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio, choose encoder settings your upload connection can sustain, test the audio and visuals, and monitor the stream. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its guidance does not promise one uninterrupted session or archive covering more than that threshold.
Before you set up the stream
Enable YouTube Live
Your channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live streaming tips and encoder setup instructions.

Clear the rights to the recording and visuals
A bhajan’s devotional or traditional subject matter does not establish that a particular recording or arrangement is free to use. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches; copyrighted material that remains in a stream can lead to interruption or termination. You are responsible for having the necessary rights to use the live content worldwide, including music licensing rights. Use your own recordings, material licensed for the intended live and archived uses, or works whose relevant rights you have checked. For licensed third-party music, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; a license alone may not prevent a live interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and its livestream terms.

In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select a stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key from the stream settings. YouTube describes the key as the credential that lets an encoder send the feed, so treat it like a password. If it is exposed, reset it. See Manage live stream settings.

In OBS, open the streaming settings and enter the YouTube stream URL and key. Choose the normal YouTube/OBS streaming option unless you have a specific reason to use another ingest workflow; confirm the selected settings in Live Control Room. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingestion.
-
Build an OBS scene containing the bhajan audio and visuals you have permission to use. For a prerecorded video workflow, arrange the media and playback behavior in OBS so the intended content continues playing. OBS controls and labels can vary by version; verify the scene, media playback and looping behavior in the version you are using rather than relying on an assumed menu path.
-
Set the output resolution and frame rate to the format you plan to send, then configure the encoder using YouTube’s current recommendations for that output. The exact bitrate depends on the resolution and frame rate; use the applicable values in YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions table, not a generic bitrate copied from a different format.

Start with a private or unlisted test. Check the Live Control Room preview, sound, moving visuals and stream-health messages. Test using representative content—not just a static screen—and verify that the live page can be opened from channel and watch pages and on a mobile device.

When you are finished, stop the stream in YouTube and then stop the encoder in OBS. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not rely on that guidance as a promise that a single stream or archive will cover more than 12 hours.
Choose stable encoder settings
YouTube’s general encoder guidance covers RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, constant bitrate encoding and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, with a maximum of four seconds. Follow the current YouTube table for bitrate ranges at your chosen resolution and frame rate. A lower resolution or bitrate that your connection can sustain is preferable to settings that cause an unstable uplink. Run a speed test, configure the encoder in advance, and test with actual sound and motion before relying on the stream.
YouTube also supports HLS with OBS, but it is chiefly relevant to supported codec and HDR workflows and has higher latency than RTMP because it sends video in segments. HLS has additional constraints, including TS segments of 1–4 seconds and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. For a typical bhajan stream without a particular HLS requirement, use the normal YouTube/OBS option and check the configuration in Live Control Room. Details are in YouTube’s HLS setup guide.
Plan for interruptions and long sessions
One OBS computer depends on that computer, its power, network connection and playback continuing to work. YouTube recommends testing encoder failover for events that use a backup encoder, but a single-computer setup does not gain redundancy merely by using OBS. Test the actual power, network and playback arrangement, and have someone able to respond if the stream fails. YouTube’s cited guidance does not promise 24/7 continuity or document a particular unattended OBS restart method.

For a long broadcast, decide how you will respond to a dropped connection or a computer restart, and how you will handle archive breaks. YouTube’s automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours; it is not a basis for promising one continuous archive beyond that. If uninterrupted operation is essential, consider whether a computer-dependent setup is appropriate or whether a cloud service better fits the requirement.
Common problems and fixes
-
Live streaming is unavailable: Check channel verification and recent live-streaming restrictions. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours for it to become available.
-
YouTube receives no feed: Confirm that OBS has the correct stream URL and current key, that the stream is selected in Live Control Room, and that OBS is sending. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.

Stream health is poor or the feed keeps dropping: Check the upload connection and encoder messages. Reduce output demands to settings the connection can sustain, using YouTube’s bitrate guidance for the selected resolution and frame rate; test again before the long session.

-
The video is live but sound or visuals are missing: Inspect the OBS scene and confirm the intended audio and video sources are active. Test a representative section and check the Live Control Room preview before sharing the live page.
-
A stream is interrupted by a copyright match: Review the recording and visual rights, and contact the rights owner about the required Content ID allowlisting for licensed material. A license does not necessarily prevent interruption when the channel is not allowlisted.
-
The archive does not cover the entire extended broadcast: YouTube’s cited automatic archive guidance is for streams under 12 hours. Plan around that limit rather than assuming one indefinitely long stream will produce one complete archive.
