For prerecorded programming, Wowza documents a demo publisher that can loop a VOD file. That loop is only one part of a 24/7 operation: you still need to plan monitoring, source and target recovery, network and power failures, rights, and YouTube’s archive limit.
Choose the Wowza setup that matches your source
Wowza Streaming Engine is media-server software that can push a stream to YouTube using a YouTube Live stream target. Your input can be a live encoder or camera, or prerecorded video sent through a file-looping workflow. YouTube receives the stream; it handles the viewer-facing live event and automatically transcodes live input for viewer formats.

Do not confuse this with Wowza Video’s separate managed 24×7 channel. Wowza documents that channel and its scheduling features as a distinct product option. It requires an account enabled for the feature and is unavailable in a trial account. You do not need a Wowza Video 24×7 channel just to push from Streaming Engine to YouTube.

Live camera or encoder input
Use this when the devotional service, prayer, or other programming is happening live. A source encoder sends its output to your Wowza live application, and Wowza sends the resulting stream to YouTube. This architecture depends on the source, encoder, power, and network remaining available.

Prerecorded video as a live stream
For a fixed programme, Wowza Streaming Engine documents a demo publisher that loops a VOD file until it is stopped. This can provide continuous playback, but a looping file does not by itself create an unattended, fault-tolerant service. Test what happens when playback stops, the Wowza process or server restarts, or the YouTube target disconnects.
Prepare YouTube before configuring the relay
Confirm that the channel can go live
YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. The stated minimum age for livestreaming is 16. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned launch rather than on the day of the devotional programme.

Create or schedule the event
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Create or schedule the live event. Scheduling can give you a watch page to share before the stream begins.
- Copy the event’s ingest/server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, include it in a public screenshot, or send it to anyone who does not need access.
YouTube may present different ingest options for an event. Use the server URL and key associated with the event you intend to start, and keep the Live Control Room open for the preview and stream-health information.

- Prepare the source. Create or select the Wowza live application that will receive the encoder or camera input. For prerecorded programming, configure the documented VOD demo-publisher workflow to loop the chosen file. Confirm the source plays correctly in Wowza before relying on the YouTube relay.
- Configure the YouTube destination. In Wowza Streaming Engine, create or select a stream target for YouTube Live, then enter the server URL and stream key copied from YouTube Studio. Keep credentials private and check them carefully; a mistyped or stale key can prevent publishing.
- Start the source and target. Start the encoder or file playback, then start the Wowza target if it does not start automatically. Check Wowza’s target status: it can help identify whether the destination is waiting, active, or in error.
- Verify the YouTube preview. In YouTube Live Control Room, wait for the incoming preview and check the picture, sound, and stream health before making the event public or promoting it as live. A target that appears active in Wowza is not a substitute for checking the receiving end.
Set ingest quality to what your source and upload can sustain
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists RTMP and RTMPS ingest; supported video codecs include H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, while AAC or MP3 are listed audio options. Use constant-bitrate encoding and a keyframe interval of two seconds where possible; YouTube advises not exceeding four seconds. Frame rates up to 60 fps are supported. Choose resolution and bitrate according to the source and the upload connection rather than selecting the highest available setting by default. RTMPS encrypts the ingest connection.

YouTube automatically transcodes live input for viewer formats, so viewers may receive different playback formats from the one you send. That does not remove the need to send a stable, supported input from your encoder to Wowza and onward to YouTube.
Test the whole path and plan for failures
Before the first public stream
- YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start.
- Use the Live Control Room preview to check audio and video, then test the watch page and viewing on a mobile device.
- Measure upload capacity while the actual source and relay are running. YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. If primary and backup encoders both send simultaneously, budget for both bitrates plus that headroom.
- Test backup-encoder failover rather than assuming a spare encoder will work when needed. Check that the backup can reach the intended Wowza input or YouTube destination and that the resulting feed appears in the Live Control Room.
Write down recovery responsibilities
Decide who is watching stream health and what they should do if the source stops, the Wowza target reports an error, the internet fails, or power is interrupted. Test how to restart the source and target, and have an operator verify the YouTube preview after recovery. YouTube’s monitoring and failover advice supports testing these procedures; it does not establish that Wowza will automatically recover in every failure scenario or guarantee a particular 24/7 uptime.

Common problems and practical checks
- No preview in YouTube: confirm that the source is playing, the Wowza target is running, and the event’s server URL and stream key were entered correctly. Check target status in Wowza and the incoming-stream information in Live Control Room.
- Wowza target is in error: check the destination details and network path, then restore the target and confirm that YouTube receives the feed again. Treat recovery as an operator procedure until you have tested any automation in your own setup.
- Video or audio is unstable: lower the resolution or bitrate to a level the source and upload can sustain, check for the recommended keyframe interval and constant bitrate, and inspect the connection while the stream is running.
- The loop stops or repeats incorrectly: verify the VOD publisher and file behavior in a test, and define who will restart playback if it stops. A successful loop test does not test recovery from a Wowza restart or server outage.
- Backup encoder causes congestion: check the combined upload requirement if both encoders transmit at once; YouTube’s 20% headroom recommendation is in addition to the primary and backup bitrates in that case.

Account for long-running events and archives
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not plan on one event being recorded as an uninterrupted archive indefinitely. Decide whether to end and restart events, and check the current Live Control Room behavior before settling on an operating schedule. Event restarts also need to be coordinated with whoever is monitoring the stream so that the channel’s live status and viewer communication remain clear.
Clear rights and check local requirements
YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to hold the rights needed to use the live content on Google services worldwide, including music rights, and to comply with applicable laws and regulatory requirements in the territory where the stream is transmitted. YouTube says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content; a match may result in a placeholder, interruption, or termination. If you have licensed material, the rights holder may still need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
For a devotional stream, document rights for songs, sound recordings, visuals, and any third-party broadcast or recorded service material. Religious subject matter alone does not clear copyright. Confirm that permissions cover the intended online livestream and any recording or archive, not just an in-person performance.

Monetization is conditional
An eligible monetized YouTube channel can enable live ads and other eligible live monetization features. YouTube’s systems decide whether ads serve in a given slot, so continuous broadcasting does not ensure continuous ads or predictable revenue. Eligibility, settings, audience, and ad serving all affect the result.
