The practical work is to confirm your channel can go live, choose an encoder that can play and repeat your files, configure YouTube’s ingest settings, and plan for monitoring and recovery. YouTube documents the live-stream setup and operational checks, but does not itself establish a file-looping workflow or guarantee an unattended 24/7 stream.
1. Check that your channel can go live
Before preparing the recordings, verify the YouTube channel and check that it has no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If this is the first time you have enabled live streaming, activation may take up to 24 hours. Start the process well before the time you want the lessons to appear. 2. Choose an encoder that can play and repeat the lessons
YouTube receives encoder streams from either software or hardware encoders. For a recorded-class channel, however, the encoder must do more than send a live feed: confirm that it can play your lesson files in sequence and repeat them as intended. YouTube’s encoder guidance does not verify a particular file-playback or looping setup, so check the encoder’s own current documentation before relying on it.
Software encoder
A software encoder runs on a computer. Check that its documented features cover local or hosted file playback, playlists or looping, and restart behavior after the app or computer stops. The computer and its internet connection must remain available for as long as that setup is expected to stream.

Hardware encoder
A hardware encoder is a dedicated physical device. Before choosing one, confirm that it can play and loop the file formats and playlist you need, reconnect after interruptions, and use settings compatible with YouTube’s ingest. Hardware is an option, not a requirement: YouTube accepts streams from software encoders too.
Compare capabilities, not labels

- Can it play and loop your recorded lesson files, rather than only encode a camera or other live input?
- Can it restart playback and recover after a power, network, or application interruption?
- Does it support YouTube’s required ingest settings, including the selected video codec and RTMPS?
- How will you monitor the stream and learn that it has stopped or developed an audio or video problem?
- What are the total operating costs, including the device or service and the computer, power, and internet connection where applicable?
3. Create a YouTube live stream and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule the live stream. Use the stream details shown there when configuring your encoder.
- In the encoder’s stream settings, enter the YouTube server URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Follow the encoder’s current instructions for the exact fields.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not share it or expose it publicly; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- Set the encoder to send the intended lesson file or playlist. Confirm that repeat or loop behavior is enabled in the encoder itself; do not assume that creating a YouTube live event makes recorded files loop automatically.
- Choose compatible video and audio settings, then start the encoder and wait for the preview in Live Control Room before making the stream public or starting the planned schedule.

4. Set quality to match your upload connection
Your settings must fit both the video you are sending and the upload connection available to the encoder. YouTube lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 as video codec options, recommends RTMPS, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval that does not exceed four seconds. Check the current requirements for your chosen codec and encoder rather than assuming every combination is supported identically.

Use YouTube’s bitrate figure as a starting point
For H.264 at 1080p and 30 frames per second, YouTube Help recommends a video bitrate of 5 Mbps. That is YouTube’s recommendation for that format, not a guarantee that a particular connection will sustain it or a universal bitrate for other resolutions, frame rates, codecs, or audio settings. YouTube Help: Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Test the actual outbound connection where the encoder will run. YouTube advises leaving upload headroom because other devices and network activity also use bandwidth. If the feed buffers, drops, or becomes unstable, reduce the bitrate or video settings and test again; a nominal connection speed alone does not prove that the stream will be reliable. 5. Preview the lessons and monitor the running stream
Before relying on a continuous schedule, test the exact files, playlist, audio, and repeat behavior you intend to use. YouTube advises preparing the encoder in advance, starting it before the planned event, checking its Live Control Room preview, verifying the watch page is accessible, and monitoring audio and video quality. A 24/7 schedule also needs a defined response to failures. Decide who—or what monitoring process—will notice and address a stopped encoder, lost power, internet outage, playback failure, or YouTube stream interruption. The sources for YouTube’s ingest and operational guidance do not establish a particular recovery implementation or promise uninterrupted unattended operation.

6. Clear rights for every part of the recordings
Make sure you have the necessary rights for the lesson recordings and all material included in them, including music, slides, images, and embedded clips. YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility for the required rights on the person streaming. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party matches; unresolved material can interrupt or terminate a stream. A licence may not prevent an interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID.
