Keep the PC awake, use a stable internet connection, and monitor the stream. If you need YouTube to save a replay, plan around its 12-hour archive limit: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured.
Before you start
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and verified. YouTube requires that it have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days; first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. YouTube’s current start guidance also says livestreamers must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming access requirements and encoder setup guidance.
- OBS Studio installed on the mini PC. OBS is free and open source; its Quick Start Guide covers the basic setup.
- A kirtan recording and visual you are permitted to use in a YouTube livestream. Rights to a song, recording, performance, and accompanying image or video can belong to different parties.
- A reliable internet connection, preferably Ethernet between the mini PC and router, and enough upload capacity for the selected stream bitrate.
Prepare a looping scene in OBS
For a devotional radio-style broadcast, a still image or simple visual is enough; a camera and elaborate graphics are optional. Add the visual and audio sources to an OBS scene, then verify the installed OBS version’s source loop controls before you go live. The official materials reviewed do not establish a universal current click path for configuring a media loop, so check the controls in your installed version rather than relying on assumed menu names.

Listen to the complete scene in OBS: confirm the intended audio source is audible, levels are not clipping, and no desktop sounds or private notifications will enter the broadcast. If you use a playlist, check that each item is cleared for livestream use and that transitions and gaps behave as intended.
Create the YouTube broadcast and connect OBS
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create an encoder stream or schedule one. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe the live-stream setup.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from the stream settings. In OBS, open the stream settings, choose YouTube as the service where available, and enter the URL and key. YouTube describes the key as the encoder’s address and password for sending an accepted feed; keep it private. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Review YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop options when scheduling. These settings affect whether the broadcast starts when the encoder connects and whether it ends when the encoder disconnects. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and tips.
- Start the OBS feed and wait for it to appear in YouTube’s preview. Check the picture and audio on the watch page before making the stream public or starting the planned continuous session.
Choose stable stream settings and network capacity
Set OBS resolution, frame rate, and bitrate to values your mini PC and connection can sustain continuously; higher settings require more upload bandwidth. Use YouTube’s current encoder recommendations for the chosen resolution and frame rate rather than guessing a bitrate. In its connection troubleshooting guidance, OBS suggests starting with video bitrate at about 75% of total upload speed, while YouTube recommends about 20% upload headroom. - Prefer Ethernet if practical. OBS warns that Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming.
- Measure upload performance at the location and time you plan to stream. Do not set the bitrate equal to a one-off speed-test maximum.
- In OBS, watch for dropped frames and disconnections during a test. Lower the bitrate or resolution if the connection cannot sustain the chosen settings.
Keep the Windows mini PC running
Configure Windows so the mini PC does not enter sleep during the broadcast, and schedule updates or planned restarts for a maintenance window. Windows 10 and 11 menus vary by version and device, so verify the power controls on your installation. Use the PC’s power settings and manufacturer guidance rather than assuming a particular click path applies to every mini PC.
Do not treat a restart as automatic recovery. A Windows reboot alone does not establish that OBS will relaunch, restore the right scene, reconnect with the correct stream key, and resume the intended YouTube broadcast unattended. Test any startup or recovery arrangement you configure while the stream is unlisted, and make sure someone can check the system after maintenance.

Test and monitor the broadcast
- Run an unlisted test before the public stream. Verify the watch page loads and that a viewer can hear the kirtan at a sensible level.
- Check that the visual is moving or intentionally static, the right scene is live, and no unwanted audio is present.
- Monitor OBS for dropped frames and YouTube for connection or copyright warnings. YouTube recommends monitoring audio and video quality during the broadcast.
- If you are recording locally, confirm the recording is being created and its file size is growing. YouTube recommends a local archive backup and checking the file’s integrity; see YouTube’s archive guidance.
Plan for replays and copyright checks
Do not depend on one all-day YouTube archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be archived automatically, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind can also be limited or unavailable for very long streams. If a reliable replay matters, schedule shorter sessions and keep a local recording, then verify that the file is usable. Clear the rights for every part of the stream
YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content. If copyrighted material remains after a warning, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A license to use third-party content may not prevent interruption if the rights holder has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Confirm permission for the specific recording, performance, and visual material; devotional subject matter, attribution, or a license by itself does not guarantee that automated checks will not interrupt the stream. Common problems and fixes
- YouTube does not accept the stream: Confirm livestreaming is enabled, the channel is verified and eligible, and OBS has the current stream URL and key. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- OBS drops frames or disconnects: Check upload stability, switch to Ethernet if possible, reduce bitrate, and leave bandwidth headroom. Other network use and ISP congestion can affect the connection.
- There is no audio on the watch page: Check the OBS audio meters and selected source, then listen to a test from the viewer’s perspective before going public.
- The stream stops after a PC restart: OBS may not have relaunched or reconnected to the intended broadcast. Treat reboot recovery as unproven until you test the complete restart-to-live process.
- YouTube interrupts the stream: Review Studio alerts and rights for the recording, performance, and visuals. Contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting if you have permission but automated checks still interrupt the broadcast.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived, and very long streams may have limited DVR. Use shorter sessions and a verified local recording when the replay matters.
