In either case, verify your channel can livestream, use rain audio and visuals you have rights to, test the stream before launch, and plan a separate archive: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured.
Choose how the stream will run
A 24/7 ambience channel is a prerecorded video broadcast as a live stream. You are not sending a live camera feed. The main choice is whether your own computer encodes and sends the loop, or a cloud service does that work after you upload the media.

Choose local encoding if you want hands-on control and can keep the machine and connection running. Choose cloud hosting if you want the stream to continue without a computer running at home and prefer not to maintain an encoder. Neither approach removes your responsibility for media rights, monitoring, or an archive plan.
Check channel eligibility and prepare the media
Confirm YouTube livestream access
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and streamers must be at least 16. Check access in YouTube Studio before preparing a public launch; account restrictions or first-time setup can prevent an otherwise correct encoder configuration from going live. Clear rights for every element
Use rain recordings, music, illustrations and video that you created or are properly licensed to use. Keep the license records and confirm they cover YouTube, the relevant territories, continuous live streaming and archived playback. A license alone may not prevent a live interruption: YouTube says a rightsholder must allowlist your channel through Content ID for licensed third-party material to avoid matching issues. Its live-stream copyright guidance explains that live streams are scanned for third-party content, and unresolved matches can interrupt or terminate a broadcast. An archive may also receive a Content ID claim.
Make a loop that works for hours
Before choosing an encoder or service, check the media as a continuous loop. Listen for silence, clipping, abrupt changes in rain intensity and audible seams; watch for disruptive cuts, flashes or transitions that could disturb sleep or focus. These are production checks rather than YouTube requirements. Keep the source files and a local master even if you upload a copy for cloud streaming.

Set up a local encoder and start the stream
YouTube’s setup advice is written for planned events, but its testing and monitoring steps are useful for a 24/7 channel too. Treat the suggested lead times as preparation guidance: thoroughly test before public launch rather than assuming a scheduled event is required.
- Prepare a continuously looping source. Configure your encoder to repeat the cabin rain video and its audio without a gap. Check that the loop does not stop when the media reaches its end.
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and configure the stream. Choose the stream setup and copy the server URL and stream key shown there into the corresponding fields in your encoder. The exact encoder labels differ by software. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, include it in a visible screen capture, or share it with anyone who does not need access.
- Set output quality to match your source and connection. Avoid selecting a resolution or bitrate your upload cannot sustain continuously. Follow YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance for resolution, bitrate and keyframe configuration; those values depend on the selected output format and can change. Use the settings shown by YouTube rather than assuming one bitrate is right for every video.
- Measure upload capacity and leave headroom. Check upload speed, not download speed alone. YouTube recommends at least 20% upload-bandwidth headroom and says to account for primary and backup bitrates where applicable. A connection that barely matches the encoder’s bitrate can become unstable as network conditions fluctuate.
- Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm both picture and sound arrive as intended before making the stream public. YouTube advises setting up an encoder at least two hours before a scheduled event and starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand; for a continuous ambience channel, use this as a prompt for an early, thorough test.
- Go live, then monitor the output. Confirm the broadcast is live and keep an eye on audio, picture and encoder status. If you are recording locally, verify that the recording file is growing and that the destination drive has space.

Plan for dropouts and keep your archive
Any long-running stream can be interrupted by a local power or network outage, an encoder failure, or a platform-side drop. Decide before launch how you will detect and respond to an interruption. With local encoding, that may mean restarting the encoder or restoring the connection; with cloud hosting, check what recovery the provider describes and how you will confirm the stream resumed. Keep the stream key private, retain a local master of your source media, and monitor the stream rather than assuming that a live indicator guarantees clean audio and video.
Do not rely on YouTube for a complete recording of an around-the-clock broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, recommends making a local backup, and warns that streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. Understand monetization limits for ambience loops
A rain loop is not automatically disqualified from monetization, but neither does being live 24/7 guarantee eligibility. YouTube’s monetization policy applies to live streams and describes repetitive or mass-produced material as “inauthentic content”; the policy page records a clarification dated July 15, 2025. Make the project meaningfully original rather than publishing many near-identical loops, and check your channel and video eligibility against YouTube’s monetization policies. No viewership or earnings outcome can be inferred from the fact that a cabin rain stream runs continuously.
