Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →You can use OBS Studio to send a podcast to YouTube Live by connecting OBS to a YouTube stream key, adding your audio and visual sources, and choosing encoder settings that fit your upload connection. That gets the stream online; it does not, by itself, make a computer-based setup reliably unattended for 24/7. You still need to plan for power, internet, playback, and recovery if OBS or the connection stops.
How do I stream a podcast 24/7?
There are two different jobs: encoding and sending the program, and keeping the whole operation running continuously. OBS handles the first. It can send either live-hosted audio or playback of prerecorded episodes to YouTube, but a working connection alone is not proof of automatic restart or outage recovery.
A single continuous encoder stream keeps one live destination active while OBS and the network continue sending. Alternatively, shorter scheduled sessions or a separately managed continuous-stream host may make episode boundaries, archives, or recovery easier, depending on the arrangement. Compare restart behavior, archive handling, outage recovery, and current costs and terms before choosing a host; the available YouTube and OBS documentation does not establish a best service or compare providers.
Check YouTube Live eligibility first
YouTube’s general eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified and have had no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days; streamers must be at least 16. These are YouTube requirements, not OBS settings. Check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio before scheduling. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and getting-started guidance.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How do I set up OBS for a 24/7 stream?
- Create or schedule the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule a stream. In Live Control Room, locate the stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder walkthrough is at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Connect OBS. In OBS, open the streaming settings and select the applicable YouTube service if available. Otherwise configure the server URL and stream key manually. Copy the values from Live Control Room exactly, then save the settings. Never share the key: YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube’s live-stream settings and update OBS. Details: Manage live stream settings.
- Add the program sources. For a live-hosted podcast, add the microphone or other audio input in OBS and check its level. A USB microphone is an optional category for live narration, not a requirement for prerecorded playback. For an episode loop, add the playback source and confirm that both its sound and intended visuals reach the stream. A microphone is not needed if the stream contains only prerecorded audio.
- Set output and video options. Use YouTube’s current encoder table to select a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate suited to the source and available upload bandwidth. YouTube’s standard encoder guidance specifies RTMP or RTMPS, H.264 video, CBR, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. For audio it lists AAC or MP3. The full settings and bitrate guidance are in YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution page. Do not treat one bitrate as appropriate for every resolution, frame rate, or connection.
- Leave upload headroom. Measure outbound upload capacity and keep total stream bitrate within it. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom. Other devices or uploads sharing the connection can reduce what is available to OBS. Guidance: YouTube streaming tips.
- Run a representative end-to-end test. Start OBS, confirm the preview arrives in Live Control Room, and check audio, visuals, and motion against the program you intend to run. Use YouTube’s Go Live controls as appropriate. Test the actual playback loop and connection, then monitor stream quality rather than assuming a successful preview guarantees continuous operation. YouTube says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
What bitrate should I use for OBS streaming?
There is no single safe bitrate for every podcast stream. Resolution and frame rate affect the encoder target, while the available upload capacity limits what the connection can sustain. Choose from YouTube’s current table for the intended output, then leave the recommended 20% bandwidth headroom for the total stream bitrate. If the connection is shared or variable, test under realistic conditions and monitor the live stream. The platform’s table and encoder recommendations are maintained at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
What does OBS need to keep running unattended?
OBS configuration is only one part of a 24/7 operation. The reviewed YouTube and OBS guidance explains sending a stream and testing it, but does not specify a guaranteed restart, power-loss recovery, or failover design for an unattended OBS deployment. Plan and test these pieces in your own environment:

- Host computer and power: decide how the computer will stay powered and what happens after a restart or outage.
- Internet continuity: check the outbound connection and consider how you will detect and respond to an interruption.
- OBS relaunch: determine whether OBS starts again after a crash or host reboot, and test that behavior rather than assuming it.
- Playback loop: verify that the chosen source continues through episode boundaries and does not stop unexpectedly.
- Alerts and intervention: decide how you will learn that the stream has stopped and who can act. Test the notification and recovery path.
YouTube’s network guidance recommends testing, previewing, monitoring, and testing failover where applicable. An encoder setup cannot promise uninterrupted service on its own.
Plan separately for live availability and podcast archives
YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that one uninterrupted stream longer than 12 hours will produce a complete replay. If a complete archive matters, plan shorter sessions or make separate recordings and manage the replay separately. The archive guidance appears in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Copyright and reused podcast content
Before looping an episode, make sure you have the rights needed for every included element, including music, clips, and guest material. Permission to publish an episode as a normal upload should not be assumed to cover every use or rights claim. YouTube’s live-stream setup guides cover the encoder connection and technical settings; they do not establish that particular podcast content is cleared or eligible for monetization. Review the rights and YouTube policies applicable to your material before going live.
