The loop keeps repeating only while FFmpeg and its host remain running; it does not by itself make a stream interruption-proof or guarantee a saved archive.
What you need before starting
- A rain ambience video with the intended audio and visuals, either in one file or prepared as separate sources.
- Permission to use the recording, music or other audio, and visuals on YouTube.
- FFmpeg installed with the encoders and RTMPS protocol support needed by your command. Check with
ffmpeg -versionandffmpeg -encoders. - A host that can encode continuously, plus upload bandwidth sufficient for the selected output. Run an upload-speed test and test the actual audio and video before going live.
- Access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Your stream key authorizes publishing to your channel, so keep it private.
Choose a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate that your host can encode continuously and your upload connection can sustain. YouTube’s published live encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265, or AV1 video and AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and recommends a two-second keyframe interval. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings for bitrate guidance by resolution and codec; the example command below is not a universal prescription.

Prepare and check the rain loop
Use media you are entitled to stream
Use rain audio and visuals you created or are authorized to use. Permission to use material and eligibility for YouTube monetization are separate questions. Keep records of the recording’s provenance and license.

Confirm that your source contains the intended audio and video streams and that the audio does not click, jump in level, or leave an obvious pause at the loop point. A longer or visually varied clip can make repetition less conspicuous, but no particular file or loop has been tested here.

For separate audio and video files, assign them as independent FFmpeg inputs and arrange looping and pacing so neither ends before the other. Different loop lengths can drift out of sync or create audible seams; preparing and checking a single muxed file first can simplify the live command.
Create the YouTube Live broadcast
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live to open Live Control Room, then configure a stream or scheduled broadcast.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the broadcast. Use the endpoint exactly as YouTube provides it, and do not publish the key in a script, screenshot, or support post.
- For a scheduled broadcast, wait until the encoder feed appears in preview, check stream health, and use Live Control Room’s go-live action when you are ready.
- Before relying on the stream unattended, test with representative rain audio and video and monitor the preview and health indicators.
YouTube recommends RTMPS where supported. RTMPS is RTMP carried through SSL/TLS; use the valid RTMPS endpoint supplied for your stream and confirm that your FFmpeg build supports it. YouTube describes the protocol and endpoint details in its RTMPS ingestion documentation.

Start FFmpeg and loop the video
For a local MP4 containing both rain visuals and audio, this is an adaptable starting template. Replace the placeholder URL with the RTMPS server URL and stream key from Live Control Room; never use a real key in a public example.

-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_YOUTUBE_INGEST/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"In this example, -stream_loop -1 repeats the input indefinitely, and -re reads it at its native frame rate. These options pace and repeat the media; they do not supervise FFmpeg or ensure that a network or YouTube ingest interruption will recover.

-c:v libx264encodes H.264 video. The selected encoder must exist in your FFmpeg build.-b:v 4500k,-maxrate 4500k, and-bufsize 9000kare illustrative values, not YouTube’s universal recommendation. The example’s 4500 kbps video bitrate was selected for the template; choose a value using YouTube’s current settings guidance and a bandwidth test.-g 60means a 60-frame GOP. It represents a two-second interval only at 30 fps; set the GOP to approximately twice your chosen frame rate to match YouTube’s two-second keyframe recommendation.-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100encodes AAC audio at the example’s selected bitrate and sample rate. These are template settings, not a claim that every source or stream should use them.-f flvselects the output container used for this RTMP/RTMPS-style ingest command.
When stream copying may help
If the source is already encoded in formats and parameters compatible with the ingest requirements, FFmpeg stream copying with -c copy can avoid re-encoding and reduce CPU demand. Compatibility depends on the actual media and ingest requirements; copying is not guaranteed to work for every file. Re-encoding gives you control over output settings but consumes host resources. FFmpeg documents input looping, pacing, and stream-copy options.
Keep the stream running and recover deliberately
A live 24/7 stream requires more than an infinite input loop. The FFmpeg process must stay alive, the host must remain on, and the network and ingest session must continue working. YouTube’s setup and health guidance does not promise uninterrupted end-to-end availability or automatic recovery from every failure.

- Watch FFmpeg logs for input, encoding, or connection errors and check Live Control Room’s preview and stream health.
- If unattended operation matters, run FFmpeg under an operating-system service manager or supervisor configured to restart it after a process exit. A restart can interrupt the broadcast; verify the new preview and session state rather than assuming it resumed seamlessly.
- If the host loses internet access or the YouTube ingest session drops, a process restart alone may not restore the connection. Check network connectivity, the endpoint and key, FFmpeg’s error output, and Live Control Room before restarting or going live again.
- Do not treat a continuously running FFmpeg process as proof that viewers are receiving a healthy stream. Check the platform preview and health indicators.
Understand YouTube archiving, copyright, and monetization
Archives are not the same as a live ingest
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. This is archive guidance, not a stated maximum ingest duration and not a promise that a stream lasting longer than 12 hours will be archived. If a retained recording matters, plan a separate local recording or deliberately scheduled shorter broadcasts, and check YouTube’s current behavior before relying on an archive.

Clear rights and consider channel-wide monetization review
YouTube’s monetization policies expect original, authentic content and flag content that is generic, repetitive, mass-produced, or reused. Reused-content review applies to the channel and is distinct from copyright: having permission to use a recording does not, by itself, establish monetization eligibility. For an ambience channel, consider building an identifiable original soundscape or presentation rather than republishing minimally changed material. No monetization approval is guaranteed.
