To display an image with rounded corners, apply CSS border-radius to the <img> element:
img {
border-radius: 12px;
}This gives every corner a 12-pixel radius. If the image must fit a fixed-size box, also choose how its contents should scale with object-fit.

Choose a radius that suits the design
border-radius rounds the element’s outer border edge, including an image element’s corners. The value can be a length, such as pixels, or a percentage. A length gives a consistent radius; a percentage scales with the element’s dimensions.
/* Same radius at all four corners */
.card-image {
border-radius: 12px;
}
/* Proportional rounding */
.card-image {
border-radius: 8%;
}Set different corners
The shorthand accepts multiple values, or you can use individual corner properties when you want the rule to be explicit:

.feature-image {
border-radius: 16px 16px 0 0;
}
/* Equivalent corner-by-corner approach */
.feature-image {
border-top-left-radius: 16px;
border-top-right-radius: 16px;
border-bottom-right-radius: 0;
border-bottom-left-radius: 0;
}Slash-separated horizontal and vertical radii create elliptical corners. For example, border-radius: 24px / 12px; uses a 24-pixel horizontal radius and a 12-pixel vertical radius.
Make a circular avatar without stretching the image
For a circular avatar, use a square image box and a 50% radius. If the source image is not square, object-fit: cover fills the box while preserving the image’s proportions; the parts that do not fit are cropped.

.avatar {
width: 96px;
height: 96px;
border-radius: 50%;
object-fit: cover;
}Adjust the crop with object-position if the subject is not centered:
.avatar {
object-position: 50% 30%;
}Choose how an image fits a fixed box
When width and height impose a different aspect ratio from the source image, forcing the image into the box without a fitting rule can distort it. The object-fit property controls how image content is resized to fit its element.

| Value | What happens | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
cover |
Fills the box while preserving the source aspect ratio. | Some content may be cropped. |
contain |
Keeps the entire image visible while preserving its aspect ratio. | Unused space may remain in the box. |
.thumbnail {
width: 320px;
height: 200px;
border-radius: 12px;
object-fit: cover;
object-position: center;
}Use cover when filling the rounded frame matters more than showing every edge of the image. Use contain when the whole image must remain visible and empty space is acceptable. The MDN guide to images and replaced elements documents image fitting and positioning behavior.
Do not confuse an image with a border image
border-radius rounds the image element; it does not round a CSS border-image. If you need a decorative border image with rounded corners, MDN notes that the border image itself can be created with rounded corners or the effect can be built with a background instead. See the MDN border-image reference.
