On openSUSE Leap 15.6’s Transactional Server role, undo a root-filesystem update with transactional-update rollback after booting into the next-to-last snapshot. First confirm that your installation is actually running this transactional setup: conventional Leap installations use a separate Snapper rollback procedure, and the two methods are not interchangeable.
The steps below follow the Leap 15.6 release notes and the Leap 15.6 Snapper reference.

Confirm your Leap role before rolling back
“Immutable mode” is not enough to identify the right recovery command. The documented transactional-update rollback applies to the Transactional Server system role in Leap 15.6. Check your release and installation role before proceeding; do not assume that every Leap system is transactional.

For the Transactional Server workflow, openSUSE directs users to transactional-update for software management, rather than YaST or ordinary zypper package management. The release notes explain that YaST is unsuitable for transactional updates because it applies changes immediately and cannot edit a read-only filesystem.

- Live Boot: Simply plug the USB drive into your computer, select the USB drive as your boot device, and experience Linux Mint without installation. This allows you to test the OS and its features before making any changes to your system.
- Install Option: Once you've tested and decided to keep Linux Mint, you can easily install it on your computer directly from the USB drive.
- Pre-installed software like LibreOffice for office tasks, a capable web browser (Firefox), email client (Thunderbird), and multimedia tools. This minimizes the need for additional downloads, saving you time and effort.
- Resource Efficiency: Designed to run efficiently on a variety of hardware configurations. It demands fewer system resources compared to some other operating systems, making it an excellent choice for older computers or devices with limited hardware specifications.
- Compatible with PC/Laptop/Desktop brands - Dell, HP, Sony, Lenovo, Samsung, Acer, Toshiba & more. Minimum system requirements 4 GB RAM Dual-Core Processor (2 GHz) 20 GB of free disk space
Roll back a Transactional Server update
The Leap 15.6 release notes specify that the machine must be booted into the next-to-last snapshot before you run the rollback command. This reverts the last snapshot—the most recent set of changes to the root filesystem.
- Boot the system into the next-to-last snapshot.
- Run
transactional-update rollback. - To select a particular snapshot instead, provide its ID:
transactional-update rollback SNAPSHOT_ID.
Replace SNAPSHOT_ID with the ID of the snapshot you intend to use. The release notes document the command and boot-state requirement for Leap 15.6’s Transactional Server role.

Use the separate Snapper procedure on a conventional Leap system
If your installation is not using the Transactional Server workflow, the Leap 15.6 reference describes a conventional Snapper system rollback. This procedure requires a Btrfs root filesystem, a single-device root filesystem, a working installed bootloader, and the supported default root-subvolume configuration.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- At the boot menu, choose Bootable snapshots and boot the snapshot you want to try.
- Check whether the system works as needed. Snapshot-included filesystem parts are mounted read-only during this trial, so you cannot write to snapshot-included directories.
- If the snapshot is suitable, run
sudo snapper rollback. - Reboot and select the default boot entry.
If the trial snapshot is unsuitable, reboot into the current state or choose another recovery route instead of committing to that rollback.

Know what a Snapper rollback covers
A system rollback resets the system to a snapshot state; it is different from using Snapper to compare snapshots and undo selected file changes. The Leap reference recommends booting a snapshot and using rollback for a system rollback rather than manually restoring every file.
