Short answer: Samsung documents a rollback only for a particular case: leaving a One UI beta and returning to the previous official build through Smart Switch on a PC. A normal, completed stable One UI update does not have a universally documented Samsung rollback path. If an update failed or was interrupted, use Samsung’s Emergency Software Recovery instead; it reinstalls the latest software rather than a version you choose.
Identify which situation you have
The correct procedure depends on what is installed now and what went wrong. Do not treat the beta instructions as a general downgrade method.

| Your situation | Samsung-documented route | What it installs | Data consequence |
|---|---|---|---|
| You are running a One UI beta and want the previous official release | Leave the beta program, then use Smart Switch on a PC and choose Downgrade if it is offered | The previous official version supported for that device | The phone is factory-reset/initialized; back up first |
| A normal stable update completed and you dislike the new version | No universal stable-release rollback is established in Samsung’s published guidance | Not established; eligibility depends on model, region, carrier and build | Unknown until Samsung confirms a supported method |
| The update was interrupted, failed, or left the phone unable to boot | Smart Switch Emergency Software Recovery | The latest software used by Samsung’s recovery process | Back up anything accessible; recovery and reset operations can erase data |
Before attempting firmware work, record the exact Galaxy model number, country or region, carrier, current One UI/Android build and whether the phone still boots. Samsung can restrict software by those variables, so a method that appears on one device may not appear on another.
Also note whether the phone is a carrier model, an unlocked model or a device purchased in another market. Those details help Samsung identify the correct firmware channel, but recording them does not create downgrade eligibility. Keep the model and build information available if you contact support; it is more useful than describing the update only as “the latest One UI.”

Rolling back a One UI beta with Smart Switch
Samsung Community One UI Beta Team moderator guidance dated June 11, 2025 says that after leaving the beta test, a participant can return to the previous official version through Smart Switch. The post is specifically about beta exit, not every Galaxy update. Read the current notice for your beta program before starting.
The key condition is that Smart Switch must recognize the device as eligible and display Downgrade. The moderator contrasts that action with an ordinary version, where Smart Switch may display Update instead. Seeing Smart Switch on a computer is not, by itself, evidence that a rollback is available.
1. Leave the beta program
Use the Samsung Members beta page or the enrollment mechanism used for your device and withdraw from the beta. Leaving the program stops future beta participation; it does not by itself reinstall the earlier software. Wait until the withdrawal is registered before connecting the phone to Smart Switch.
Recommended Free Tools
Leaving the program and removing the installed beta are separate events. If the phone still reports a beta build after withdrawal, do not assume that a reset or a normal update will restore the former official release. Check the beta program’s current instructions and Samsung’s support channel for that exact device.
2. Back up everything you need
The moderator’s warning is explicit: the rollback factory-resets the device. Copy photos, videos, documents, authenticator or passkey information, messages and any app data that is not already synchronized. Verify that cloud backups have completed and that you know the passwords needed to restore accounts. A reset removes data stored on the phone.
Back up before clicking Downgrade, not after the phone enters the process. Review the backup from another device or browser when possible so you know the files are actually available. If the phone contains work data, banking credentials or two-factor authentication, confirm the organization’s recovery procedure first. A factory reset can require account verification during setup, so keep the relevant Google and Samsung account credentials accessible.
3. Install Smart Switch on a computer
Install Samsung Smart Switch on a Windows PC or Mac from Samsung’s official download channel. The documented beta route requires a computer rather than the phone’s ordinary over-the-air updater.
Use the current Smart Switch release offered by Samsung. The computer is the host for the rollback operation; installing the app does not download an arbitrary historical firmware package or guarantee that the Downgrade control will appear.
4. Connect the Galaxy phone
Use a USB data cable and connect the phone directly to the computer. Samsung says to use the cable included with the device; some computers require a USB adapter. A cable or adapter only establishes the connection—it does not make a device eligible for downgrade.

Avoid making the connection through a hub or dock when troubleshooting detection. If you need to buy an accessory, the only supported point is that you need a compatible data connection; Samsung does not indicate that a particular premium cable, adapter or paid utility unlocks rollback support.
5. Authorize the computer on the phone
Unlock the Galaxy and tap Allow when the USB authorization prompt appears. If no prompt appears, unlock the screen, reconnect the cable, try another computer port and make sure the cable supports data rather than charging only.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Keep the phone unlocked while Smart Switch is establishing the session. If authorization fails repeatedly, restart the phone and computer and reconnect before changing firmware-related settings. Connection troubleshooting cannot turn a stable-build installation into a beta rollback case.
6. Check the action Smart Switch offers
When Smart Switch recognizes a beta build, look for Downgrade. Select it only after confirming that your backup is complete and that you accept the factory reset. Samsung’s moderator notes that an ordinary version may instead show Update; that label is not a downgrade command.
Read the confirmation screen carefully for the device and action named. If it identifies an update rather than a downgrade, stop and do not proceed on the assumption that Smart Switch will choose the old version automatically. The supported beta path is conditional on what Samsung’s service offers for the connected phone.
7. Let the process finish without disconnecting
Keep the phone connected and powered while Smart Switch downloads and installs the software. Do not close the program, remove the cable or attempt to use the phone until Smart Switch reports completion. The first boot can take longer than usual because the device is being initialized. Reconnect the phone to Smart Switch afterward only if the program requests it.

If the computer loses power or the cable is removed during installation, the phone may need recovery rather than a second downgrade attempt. Preserve any message or code shown by Smart Switch and use Samsung’s recovery guidance if the device no longer starts normally.
If Downgrade does not appear, stop. The beta instruction does not guarantee eligibility for every model, country, carrier or build. Do not select Update expecting it to restore an older release, and do not proceed with an unofficial firmware package unless you have model-specific support from Samsung or a qualified technician.
Can a completed stable One UI update be undone?
Samsung’s beta guidance should not be read as proof that every stable update can be reversed. The official pages covered here do not establish a universal Smart Switch option for selecting an older stable release. Whether any downgrade is technically or officially available can depend on the exact model, regional firmware, carrier customization, bootloader state and the target build’s signing or availability.

For a stable update that installed normally, first check Samsung support for the exact model number, region, carrier and current build. Ask specifically whether Samsung supports returning to the requested build and whether the operation will erase the phone. If Samsung does not provide that confirmation, assume that a factory reset will not restore the previous One UI version and that ordinary Smart Switch synchronization cannot choose an arbitrary older release.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteAvoid guides that promise a universal “one-click” stable downgrade. Firmware flashing instructions written for a different model or region can fail, remove carrier features, trigger a boot loop or leave the phone unable to accept future updates. The evidence here does not establish a supported, general-purpose stable downgrade procedure, so no such command or package should be presented as safe for all Galaxy phones.
Do not confuse a phone’s ability to receive an update with its ability to return to an earlier build. Samsung may offer only the current software through its official tools, and an older package may no longer be offered for a particular region or carrier. A factory reset, clearing cache or removing updates from an individual app does not change the installed One UI system version.
When the update failed or the phone will not boot
A failed update is a recovery problem, not the same as wanting an older version. Samsung’s Phone Recovery Guide: Emergency Software Recovery describes using Smart Switch to restart recovery after an interrupted or failed update. Its goal is to restore operation with the latest software available to the recovery process.
Use this branch if installation stopped midway, the phone reports an update error, or the device enters a boot loop after the update. Do not choose it expecting an older One UI release; emergency recovery and downgrade are different operations.

- Install or open the current Smart Switch application on a computer.
- Connect the affected Galaxy phone with a compatible USB data cable.
- Open the Emergency Software Recovery function and follow the on-screen identification and download steps.
- Keep the computer connected to power and do not interrupt the USB connection while the software is recovered.
- Allow the phone to restart and complete setup before judging whether the recovery worked.
If the phone still responds, back up anything accessible before starting. If it cannot boot, prioritize the recovery instructions and avoid repeated improvised resets or firmware attempts that could erase remaining data.
Samsung’s recovery material also describes an emergency recovery-code path using another computer when repeated attempts fail. Record any code Smart Switch provides, then enter it on the second computer exactly as Samsung’s recovery guide directs. If the phone remains unusable, contact Samsung support or an authorized service center with the model, build and recovery details.
Emergency recovery is not a way to select an earlier stable One UI release. It addresses an update that did not complete and is designed around the latest software supplied by Samsung.
What a factory reset does—and does not do
Samsung’s support guidance describes factory reset as a last-resort troubleshooting action and warns that it removes personal data. Resetting can clear user accounts, applications, settings, downloaded files and locally stored media, but it does not let you choose a historical One UI build. A reset therefore cannot substitute for a supported firmware rollback.

If the beta rollback itself performs the initialization, do not run a separate reset beforehand; it adds another data-erasing step without improving eligibility. Make the backup before selecting Downgrade, and ensure you can complete Google and Samsung account verification afterward if device protection requests it.
A reset also does not preserve a copy of the old system for later selection. Once the process is complete, restore your backed-up content only after the phone finishes setup and you have confirmed that the operating system is the version you intended to install.
Connection and preparation checklist
- Confirm whether the phone is on a beta build, a normally completed stable build or a failed update.
- Write down the model number, region, carrier and current software build.
- Back up data before any beta rollback or recovery action; a rollback factory-resets the phone.
- Use the included USB cable when possible. Samsung notes that some computers need an adapter.
- Install Smart Switch on a PC or Mac and keep the computer connected to power.
- Unlock the phone and approve the USB authorization prompt.
- Do not disconnect the cable while Smart Switch is downloading, installing or recovering software.
- Stop if Smart Switch offers only Update and you intended to downgrade.
- Keep account passwords, backup codes and any required work-device recovery information available.
- Save screenshots or error messages, including any emergency recovery code, before closing Smart Switch.
Troubleshooting common dead ends
Smart Switch does not detect the phone
Unlock the screen, reconnect the cable, try a different USB port and remove hubs or docks. Use a known-good data cable; a charge-only cable cannot carry the required connection. If the computer needs an adapter, use a compatible one. Restart Smart Switch and the computer before trying again.
The phone shows “Allow,” but nothing happens
Tap Allow on the phone, keep it unlocked and reconnect. A locked screen can prevent authorization from completing. If the prompt repeatedly disappears, restart both devices and check that Smart Switch is current.
Only “Update” appears
For a beta participant, this usually means the documented Downgrade action is not being offered for the connected state. Do not interpret Update as a return to the previous version. Confirm that you actually left the beta and then ask Samsung about eligibility for the precise model and build.
The phone is stuck in a boot loop after the update
Treat this as a failed-update case. Use Samsung’s Emergency Software Recovery instructions rather than attempting a beta rollback workflow. If recovery repeatedly fails, use the emergency recovery-code procedure on another computer or contact Samsung support.
You already reset the phone and the new One UI remains
That result is expected: factory reset erases user data but does not reinstall an older operating system. Restore your backup, then seek model-specific Samsung guidance if you still believe the installed build is defective.
Can a cable or adapter make Downgrade appear?
No. Samsung recommends the included USB cable and notes that an adapter may be needed for some computers, but those accessories only provide a data connection. They do not change model, region, carrier or build eligibility.
How to decide safely
| Question | If yes | If no |
|---|---|---|
| Did you enroll in a One UI beta? | Leave the beta, back up, connect Smart Switch on a PC and look for Downgrade. | Continue to the stable-update or failed-update branch. |
| Did the update fail, stop midway or prevent booting? | Use Emergency Software Recovery, which targets the latest software. | The update completed; do not assume rollback is supported. |
| Does Samsung confirm support for your exact model, region, carrier and target build? | Follow only that model-specific procedure and its data-loss warnings. | Do not flash a package based solely on a generic internet guide. |
The key distinction is between a documented beta exit, a recovery from a failed installation and an unestablished downgrade of a completed stable release. Choosing the wrong branch can erase data without changing the installed version or can leave a phone in a non-booting state.

Frequently asked questions
Can I roll back any Samsung Galaxy after a One UI update?
No universal Samsung-supported rollback is established for every completed stable update. Samsung documents the Smart Switch Downgrade route for leaving a One UI beta when the option is offered for that device.
Will leaving the beta automatically restore the old software?
No. Leaving the beta stops participation. You still need to connect the phone to Smart Switch on a computer and verify that Downgrade is available.
Will beta rollback delete my data?
Yes. Samsung’s beta guidance warns that rollback factory-resets or initializes the phone. Back up before starting.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Does a factory reset return the previous One UI version?
No. It removes personal data and settings but does not install a selected older system build.
What should I do if an update failed?
Use Smart Switch Emergency Software Recovery. Samsung describes that process as recovering the latest software after an interrupted or failed update, not as choosing an older release.
What if Smart Switch shows only Update?
Do not select it as a downgrade. Confirm your beta status and ask Samsung about eligibility for the exact model, region, carrier and build.
Do I need to buy a special cable?
Samsung says to use the included USB cable; some computers may need an adapter. A compatible data cable is sufficient for the connection, but no cable guarantees rollback eligibility.

Is there a published rollback success rate?
No. Samsung’s materials used here do not provide a rollback success-rate statistic, so treat claims of guaranteed or universal success cautiously.
