If that does not work, try pressing the touchpad’s lower-right corner, if your model supports it. You can also check whether the right-click tap is enabled in Windows touchpad settings.
How to right-click without a mouse
- Try a two-finger tap: Place two fingers on the touchpad and tap once. Dell Support describes this as a right-click method in its touchpad FAQ.
- Try the lower-right corner: Press the touchpad’s lower-right corner if your model and settings support corner-clicking. Touchpad layouts differ, so this is not a universal physical button.
Some Dell models have distinct left- and right-click areas. For example, Dell’s G3 3590 setup guide describes a separate right-click area as well as two-finger tapping.

Turn on the right-click tap in Windows
If two-finger tapping does nothing, open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad, expand Taps, and enable the right-click tap option. The path reflects Dell’s current guidance; Windows labels or menus may change in later versions.
Stop accidental right-clicks on specified XPS models
Dell documents unintended corner right-clicks caused by palm contact on the XPS 14 9440 and XPS 16 9640. On those models, open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad > Taps and clear Press the lower right corner of the touchpad to right-click. Two-finger tapping remains available. This behavior and setting are documented for those XPS models; they should not be assumed to apply to every Dell laptop. See Dell’s XPS touchpad guidance (last modified May 20, 2026).

If the touchpad is not responding
If the cursor or touchpad itself is unresponsive, connect an external mouse temporarily. Dell says this can help determine whether the problem is specific to the touchpad; a mouse is not needed for ordinary right-clicking.
