Confirm the removal. This blocks future access through that authorization, but it does not delete data the app already copied; request deletion from the app’s provider separately.
What revoking access actually does
A Google Account connection is an authorization that lets an app use particular Google information or services. Removing it tells Google to stop allowing that app to use the connection in the future. Google says you can review or remove linked apps and third-party connections at any time. See Google Account Help and its current connection instructions at Manage connections between your Google Account and third parties.

Revocation is not the same as erasure. If the app previously viewed, copied, uploaded, created, edited, or otherwise received information, removing the connection does not automatically remove that information from the provider’s systems. Google’s guidance says to visit the app if you want the data and information you shared with it deleted. Check the provider’s privacy policy for its retention and deletion practices.
The setting affects the particular authorization you select. It does not necessarily remove every relationship you have with the provider. For example, an app can have a Sign in with Google consent and a separate authorization for Google service data, or an app or device can use an App Password instead. Identify each entry before assuming one removal covers everything.

Remove a third-party connection in five steps
- Sign in to the correct Google Account. If you use several Google Accounts, check the profile currently selected. The authorization belongs to the account that originally granted it, not necessarily the account you happen to be using now.
- Open the account’s third-party connections or linked-apps area. Google’s labels and help pages can vary by connection type and by the current account interface. Use the Google Account section that lists apps and services with third-party access, rather than changing settings inside the app itself.
- Select the app or service. Open its details and read the listed Google data, services, and actions. The scope shown there is the authority you are removing.
- Choose Remove access. Google may display an equivalent removal control depending on the connection. Select it and review the warning or confirmation dialog.
- Confirm. After confirmation, the app can no longer use that authorization for further access. If you also want previously shared information removed, contact the app or service directly and make a deletion request.
Google’s current instructions describe selecting a listed third-party app or service, opening its details, and choosing the removal control followed by confirmation. Because Google changes account interfaces, follow the label shown in your account instead of relying on a particular screen layout.
Prepare before you remove the connection
First identify the Google Account and the provider name shown in the connections list. Similar services can have similar names, and one provider can appear more than once. Selecting the details page before removing anything lets you compare the listed app name with the service you intend to disconnect.
Read the scope while you still have access to it. Note whether the connection is limited to basic profile information or includes a Google service such as Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Photos, or Contacts. Also note whether the permission is for viewing and copying only or includes editing, uploading, creating, or deleting data. This makes a later deletion request more specific and helps you understand what needs checking after revocation.
If the app is your only way into an account, check the provider’s other sign-in options before removing Sign in with Google. Revocation removes that Google sign-in relationship; it does not create a replacement password or another recovery method for you. If the provider offers no alternative, contact it about account access before disconnecting the consent.
Check what the app was allowed to use
Do not assume every listed app had the same level of access. Google separates basic Sign in with Google information from permissions to use Google services or account data. The details page for a connection is the authoritative place to see its scope.
| Connection or permission | Information or capability that may be involved | What removing it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Sign in with Google | Basic profile information such as your name, email address, and profile picture | You can no longer use that Google sign-in method with the linked app, and the app stops receiving changes to that basic profile information through the consent. Information already shared is not taken back automatically. |
| Google service or data access | Depending on the consent, access to Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Photos, Contacts, or other Google Account data | The app loses future access through that authorization. The exact data and actions depend on the scope displayed for the connection. |
| Management permissions | Some consents allow viewing or copying data; others can allow editing, uploading, creating, or deleting data | Those future operations are blocked through the revoked connection, but copies or changes already made are not automatically undone. |
Google states that it does not share your Google Account password with a linked app. That does not mean the app had no meaningful access: a consent can still authorize specific data or actions without exposing the password. For Google’s explanation, see How Sign in with Google helps you share data safely and Manage your third-party connections.
A permission to view a calendar is different from permission to change it. A permission involving Drive can be different from one involving Gmail or Contacts. Do not infer the scope from the app’s brand or from the fact that you used a Google button; rely on the specific list Google displays for that connection.

People often describe any Google-connected app as “using Google login,” but there are two related, distinct concepts. Sign in with Google is an authentication and basic-profile consent. A linked app may separately request permission to use Google services or data. One app can have one type of consent, the other type, or both.

When the connection is only Sign in with Google
Removing consent means the Google sign-in option is no longer available for that app. Google says, “You can stop using Sign in with Google to sign in to a linked app at any time.” You may need to create or use another login method offered by the provider. Revoking consent does not delete the profile details already sent to the provider, so make a separate deletion request if that is your goal.
When the app requested Google services
The app may have been authorized to read or manage selected information in Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Photos, Contacts, or another service. Read the permission list before removing access so you know what is being cut off. A connection that could only view data is materially different from one that could upload, edit, create, or delete it.
When both appear together
Remove the listed connection once, then check what Google shows after the confirmation. If a provider has more than one separately listed authorization, review each entry rather than assuming one removal covers every connection.

The provider may continue to have an account record, profile details, or other information until you use its own deletion process. Google’s connection control governs the authorization between Google and that provider, not the provider’s internal records.
Revoking an app password is a separate process
An app password is a separate 16-digit credential for an app or device. It is not the same thing as a third-party connection entry, so removing an item from the linked-apps page does not substitute for revoking an app password.
- Open the Google Account’s App Passwords area.
- Find the credential associated with the app or device.
- Select Remove for that credential and confirm if Google asks.
Google says, “Once you revoke the App Password, the app can’t access your Google Account again.” Google also says app passwords are not recommended in most cases and recommends Sign in with Google when it is available. Use the App Passwords route when the connection was actually created with an app-password credential. The official instructions are at Sign in with app passwords.
Do not treat the 16-digit format as proof that an item is a third-party connection. It identifies a credential created for an app or device. The credential has its own removal control and its own result. If you no longer need several app passwords, review and remove each unneeded credential individually.
If you cannot find the app or the removal control
You are viewing the wrong Google Account
Sign out or switch profiles, then check each account that might have authorized the app. The management page only shows connections belonging to the account currently selected. An authorization granted from one account will not appear simply because another account uses the same browser or device.

The app was authorized with an app password
Look in App Passwords rather than only in third-party connections. A 16-digit credential has its own Remove control and its own revocation result.
The labels do not match an older guide
Google’s wording can change. Look for the account area that lists third-party connections, linked apps, or apps and services with access. Open the app’s details and use the removal control Google presents there. The exact screen arrangement is less important than finding the listed connection and its current removal command.
The app is still showing old information
Revocation prevents future access through the Google authorization; it does not purge a database, downloaded file, email copy, profile record, or other information the provider already received. Contact the provider, request deletion, and review its privacy policy. Google’s help page states: “If you want to delete the data and information you shared with the app, you’ll need to visit that app.”

You can no longer use Google to sign in
That is the expected consequence when you revoke a Sign in with Google consent. Use another sign-in method offered by the provider, if available, or contact the provider about account recovery. Removing consent does not itself delete the provider account.
You do not recognize the provider name
Open the details rather than dismissing the entry based only on its name. Review the listed scope, then remove the connection if you do not want it. If the entry includes access to Google services or the ability to manage data, treat it differently from a basic profile-only sign-in when deciding what provider-side records to review.
You found more than one entry
Read each entry’s details and remove every authorization you no longer want. One provider can have separate entries for different services or sign-in relationships. Revoking one listed connection does not automatically revoke a distinct credential or consent.
What to do after revocation
- Confirm the intended account was used. This avoids leaving the authorization active on a second Google Account.
- Record the provider’s name and the permission scope. This makes a deletion request more precise, especially when the app had access to more than basic profile information.
- Ask the provider to delete retained data. State which account or profile was connected and request deletion of information received from Google. The provider, not Google’s connection switch, controls data it already holds.
- Review separate authorizations. If the app appears both as a linked connection and as an App Password, revoke each mechanism that you no longer need.
- Recheck unusual access. If you find an app you do not recognize, inspect its listed scope and remove the connection. Do not assume that an unfamiliar name had only sign-in access.
- Check the provider’s privacy information. Its policy explains how it handles retention and deletion requests. Google’s removal control cannot change those provider-side practices.
A clear deletion request can identify the provider, the email address or profile used with it, and the Google services or categories listed in the connection details. Ask the provider to remove information received through the Google connection and to explain any information it must retain under its policy. Keep the request separate from the Google revocation: one blocks the authorization, while the provider handles records already in its possession.

Important limits of revocation
Revocation operates on the specific authorization you remove. It does not rewrite the provider’s records, reverse actions the app already performed, or automatically delete copies made before the removal. If an app had permission to edit, upload, create, or delete data, review the affected Google service and the provider’s records separately; the connection removal only blocks subsequent use through that authorization.

Likewise, removing Sign in with Google does not mean the provider account disappears. It removes that Google sign-in relationship and stops future profile updates through the consent. The provider may still retain an account or information until you request deletion under its own process.
Revocation also is not a substitute for reviewing what happened before the connection was removed. If the scope included the ability to create, edit, upload, or delete, inspect the relevant Google service and the provider’s account history where those options are available. The removal prevents the authorization from being used going forward; it does not promise to reconstruct or undo earlier activity.

Frequently asked questions
Does removing access delete my data from the app?
No. It blocks future access through the Google authorization. Information the provider already received can remain in its systems. Contact the provider and use its deletion process if you want that information removed.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Does Google share my password with connected apps?
Google states that it does not share your Google Account password with a linked app. A connection can still authorize specific data or actions, so read the scope shown for the app.
Will I lose the ability to log in?
If the app used Sign in with Google, you can no longer use that Google sign-in method after revocation. Use another method offered by the provider or ask it about account recovery. A separate Google-data connection can have different consequences.
Can I revoke access for only Gmail or only Drive?
Remove the connection that lists the relevant permission. The details page shows which Google services and actions that authorization covers. If separate entries exist, review each one; do not assume one entry represents every service.
What if I used an App Password instead of a consent screen?
Open App Passwords, locate the 16-digit credential, and select Remove. Google says that once the App Password is revoked, the app cannot access your Google Account again. This route is separate from third-party connection removal.
Is revoking access reversible?
Revocation stops the existing authorization. If you later need the app, you can use the sign-in or authorization flow the provider offers and review the permissions again before granting access. Information already held by the provider remains a separate deletion issue.
Best Value
Why does the app still display my name or old files?
The provider may be displaying information it already received. Removing the Google connection does not automatically take back copied profile details, messages, files, contacts, or other data. Ask the provider to delete the retained information.
Is an unfamiliar app automatically dangerous?
An unfamiliar name is a reason to inspect the listed details, not a reason to guess at its scope. Open the connection, review the services and actions shown, and remove it if you do not want the authorization. If it used an App Password, revoke that credential separately.
Google’s official guidance
Google’s account-help pages use the terms “remove access to your account,” “third-party connections,” “linked apps,” and “Remove access.” The current documentation explains how to inspect a connection’s scope, remove it, distinguish Sign in with Google from other data permissions, and revoke App Passwords. Start with Google’s third-party connection instructions, then consult How Sign in with Google helps you share data safely or Sign in with app passwords when the connection type requires it.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I remove an app’s access to my Google Account?
Sign in to the Google Account that granted access, open its third-party connections or linked-apps list, select the app, choose Remove access (or the current equivalent), and confirm.
Does revoking Google access delete information the app already has?
No. Revocation blocks future access through that authorization. Contact the app or service and request deletion of information it already received.
What is the difference between Sign in with Google and Google data access?
Sign in with Google generally shares basic profile details such as your name, email address, and profile picture. A separate consent can authorize access to services or data such as Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Photos, or Contacts, sometimes with permission to edit, upload, create, or delete.
Where do I revoke a 16-digit app password?
Use the Google Account’s App Passwords area, find the credential for the app or device, and select Remove. App-password revocation is separate from the third-party connections list.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhy can’t I find the app in my Google Account?
Check that the correct Google Account is selected, look for alternate labels such as third-party connections or linked apps, and consider whether the app uses an App Password instead of a listed consent.
Will removing Sign in with Google delete my provider account?
No. It removes that Google sign-in relationship and stops future profile updates through the consent. The provider account and previously received information can remain until you use the provider’s own deletion process.
The Bottom Line
Open the third-party connections list for the Google Account that granted access, inspect the app’s scope, and choose Remove access. Revoke any separate App Password in its own settings, and contact the provider if you also need previously received data deleted.
