To review an add-on’s access, inspect its requested OAuth scopes and access setting in Google Admin console. To stop access, choose the action that matches your goal: revoke its authorization, block API access, uninstall it, or—if it is a Google Chat app—uninstall it and remove it from your organization’s allowlist. These actions are not interchangeable.
Choose the right action for your goal
| Goal | Action | Who can take it | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| See what an app requests or can access | Review its scopes and access setting | Administrator | Shows requested Google services and configured access; it does not remove access. |
| Make an administrator-installed Marketplace app ask users for consent again | Revoke all access in the Marketplace app’s data-access screen | Administrator | Revokes the app’s current data access. Users are prompted to authorize it again the next time they use it. |
| Prevent an app from accessing Google services through API controls | Set the app to Blocked | Administrator | Blocks the app’s access to Google services. |
| Remove an add-on from a user’s Workspace interface | Uninstall it | User, where the interface permits | Removes the add-on from that interface; uninstalling is distinct from changing the organization’s API access policy. |
For a Google Chat app, revoking OAuth access alone is not enough to stop its calls: Chat app calls do not require OAuth scopes. To stop its use, uninstall the Chat app and remove it from the allowlist, following your organization’s controls. Google’s administrator guidance explains the distinction.

Review an app’s access in the Admin console
This workflow requires an administrator account with the necessary security settings privilege. If you do not have administrator access, you cannot use these Admin console controls; you may still be able to uninstall an add-on from your Workspace interface.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Sign in to the Google Admin console with an eligible administrator account.
- Go to Security > Access and data control > API controls > Manage App Access.
- Review configured apps and accessed apps. Depending on the view, details can include app name, type, ID, ownership, verification information, organizational-unit access, access level, user counts, and the Google services requested.
- Open the app’s details and inspect its OAuth scopes and access setting. Google describes access levels including Trusted, Limited, Specific Google data, and Blocked. Choose a level consistent with organizational policy and the data the app needs. See Google’s API controls guidance.
To restrict a particular Google service across apps, administrators can configure service access controls instead of changing only one app. Google cautions that restricting service access can stop untrusted apps and revoke their tokens, so account for the effect on users and workflows before applying a broader policy.

Revoke access for an administrator-installed Marketplace app
Google documents a separate data-access screen for apps installed by an administrator from Google Workspace Marketplace. In the Marketplace app list, open the app’s data-access details to inspect requested OAuth scopes and use the revoke-all-access action when appropriate. This documented action removes all access; it does not offer a way to revoke only selected scopes. When users next use the app, they are prompted to authorize it again. Google’s administrator instructions cover this workflow.
Uninstall an add-on from Google Docs
If your goal is to remove an add-on from your own Docs interface, Google’s documented route is:

- Open the add-on menu in Google Docs.
- Choose Manage add-on.
- Select the add-on you want to remove, then choose Uninstall.
See Google Docs Editors Help for the uninstall instructions. Menu labels and availability can vary with the app and interface.
What to check before changing access
- Identity and publisher: Confirm the app name, ID, ownership, and publisher information so you are reviewing the intended app.
- Requested scopes and services: Compare what the app asks to access with its stated purpose. A scope review is a useful check, not a guarantee that the app is safe.
- Organizational-unit settings: Check which organizational units have access and whether a change should apply to one unit or more broadly.
- Verification information: Google says apps requesting sensitive user data must pass OAuth app verification. Apps requesting broad or restricted access may need a security assessment that is renewed annually. Internal apps are not reviewed by Google in the same way as public Marketplace apps. See Google’s Marketplace app evaluation guidance.
- Other trust signals: Consider the publisher, privacy policy, support details, and your organization’s own requirements alongside verification status. A verification badge is one input, not proof that an app is risk-free.
Allow time for access lists to update
Google says app details typically appear 24–48 hours after authorization, and the accessed-apps list updates 48 hours after a token is granted or revoked. A recent authorization change may therefore not appear immediately in the list. These timings are documented in Google Workspace Admin Help; interface labels and available controls can vary with app type, administrator role, permissions, and organizational-unit configuration.
