Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThere is no single PlayStation setting that deletes every kind of gameplay data. Use the console’s saved-data controls to remove a local save, manage cloud saves separately, and use account privacy tools or the game publisher’s process for other data. First identify where the information is stored; deleting one copy does not necessarily remove the others.
Identify the gameplay data you want to remove
“Gameplay data” can refer to several separate things, each with its own control:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Installed game files or add-ons: The game content stored on the console. Removing it does not by itself delete a save or online account. Sony says purchased games can be downloaded again from your library. See PlayStation’s PS5 storage guide.
- Local saved data: Progress or settings stored on the console. The deletion path differs between PS5 and PS4.
- Cloud saved data: A separate save copy managed through PlayStation Plus cloud storage. Check and delete it separately if you also want it removed.
- Account activity and gaming history: Privacy settings can control what other players see. These visibility controls do not delete console or cloud saves.
- Personal information Sony processes: A Data Access Request lets you request a copy of key personal information; it is not a deletion action or necessarily a complete inventory of every game server’s data.
- Information shared with authorized apps: You can review and unlink apps that may access some account information, including gameplay information. Unlinking does not promise to erase information an app already received.
- Publisher-held online data: Online progression, multiplayer statistics, or a publisher account may require a request to the game publisher. There is no universal publisher-side deletion path established here.
Delete a local save on PS5
- Open Settings.
- Select Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
- Choose Saved Data (PS5) or Saved Data (PS4), according to the version of the game.
- Select Upload or Delete from Console Storage.
- Select the game and the save files to remove, then confirm deletion.
Sony documents this as the console-storage save management flow in its PS5 storage guide. Check both save categories if you have played both the PS4 and PS5 versions of a title.
Delete a local save on PS4
If you may want the progress later, copy the save to USB before deleting it. Sony documents USB copying for PS4 saved data in its PS4 storage guide; verify that the intended save was copied before removing the console copy.

Check cloud saves separately
Deleting a save from console storage does not establish that a separate cloud copy was deleted. On PS5, Sony’s cloud-save deletion flow is Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS5) or Saved Data (PS4) > Download or Delete from Cloud Storage > Delete. Select the saved data and confirm. The instructions are on Sony’s PlayStation Plus cloud-storage page for Canada; service availability and menu labels may vary by region or software version.
That Canada support page lists cloud-storage limits of up to 100 GB each for PS5 and PS4 saves, and up to 1,000 PS4 save files. These are figures on the Canada page, accessed in 2026, and may change or differ by region.
Remove an installed game without deleting its save
On PS5, open Settings > Storage > Console Storage > Games and Apps to remove an installation or selected game content. Sony notes that Customize may appear beside a title to manage portions of its installed data. Removing installed files is separate from deleting saved data; see the PS5 storage guide.

Review Sony account data, activity visibility, and app access
Request a copy of personal information
Sign in to Account Management, then go to Privacy Settings > Data Access Requests > Request Data. Sony says the second email can take up to seven days, and the download remains available for seven days after the notification email. This requests a copy of key personal information; it does not delete data. Follow the steps in Sony’s Data Access Request guide.
Change who can see your activity
Use PlayStation privacy settings to manage the visibility of online status, currently played games, and gaming history. Hiding activity changes what other players can see; it does not remove a save. See Sony’s privacy settings guide.
Review authorized apps
In Account Management > Authorized Apps, review linked services and select Unlink for an app you no longer want connected. Sony says an authorized app may receive some account information, including online status and gameplay information. For information already received by that service, consult its privacy policy or account-deletion process; Sony’s authorized-app guide does not promise that unlinking erases it.

Ask the game publisher about online progression or account data
Console save deletion does not guarantee removal of online progression, multiplayer statistics, or information held in a publisher account. Sony’s US Terms of Service, marked March 2025, say that “Additional terms may apply, including the terms of any game publisher or service provider.” See PlayStation’s US Terms of Service.
For publisher-held data, check the game’s official account settings or privacy notice, or contact its support team and ask how to access or delete the relevant information. The exact procedure depends on the game and publisher.
Quick Recap
Avoid deleting more than you intend
- Before deleting a save, check whether another copy exists in cloud storage or on USB and decide whether you need to keep it.
- Do not use a full console reset to remove one game’s save. Sony distinguishes restoring default settings—which does not affect user or game data—from resetting a PS5 or initializing a PS4, which deletes user and game data and cannot be undone. See Sony’s restore and reset guidance.
- If you are unsure which category applies, identify whether the data is on the console, in cloud storage, in your PlayStation account, with a linked app, or held by the game publisher before choosing a control.
