Granola offers a similar bot-free notepad workflow, with meeting history, integrations, and a connector that can bring Granola notes into ChatGPT. The choice is less about a proven accuracy winner—none is established by the available product documentation—and more about where you want notes to live and what you want to do with them.

Can ChatGPT take meeting notes on Mac?
Yes, if your account and workspace have access to the Meetings beta. In the ChatGPT macOS app, open Plugins, install Meetings, allow access to your Mac’s microphone and system audio, and start note-taking manually. A calendar connection is not required for manual use. Connecting Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar can support reminders and upcoming-meeting features. OpenAI says the meeting page can draw on the transcript, notes you write, and relevant context from authorized connected apps; you can then review and edit suggested actions before starting them.
Meetings stops when you stop it, when the laptop lid closes, after extended silence, or after four hours. If the laptop goes offline or processing is incomplete, audio may remain temporarily on the Mac while it waits to upload or process. OpenAI says audio streams to its service to generate notes and is deleted from the Mac and OpenAI servers after the notes are ready. For details, see OpenAI’s Meetings documentation.

How the products turn notes into action
ChatGPT Meetings: review, edit, then start
ChatGPT Meetings treats suggested actions as work you can initiate inside ChatGPT. Review the proposed items on the meeting page, change anything that needs correction, and start the items you want ChatGPT to work on. That review step matters: the feature offers suggestions, not a guarantee that every action is correct or should be run unchanged.
Granola: follow up from a meeting-history workspace
Granola emphasizes a searchable record of meetings alongside notes, decisions, action items, and follow-ups. It also lists integrations, while its ChatGPT connector can make Granola meeting context available in ChatGPT. That makes it useful to consider if you want a persistent meeting-history product rather than keeping the primary notes only in ChatGPT. Granola’s descriptions are vendor claims, not independently verified performance findings.

Can you use Granola with ChatGPT?
Yes. Granola’s MCP connector lets a person connect their account through OAuth so ChatGPT can list and read Granola meeting notes, retrieve action items and decisions, and answer questions about meeting history. The access available depends on the Granola plan:

Granola describes these connector capabilities on its Granola + ChatGPT page. OpenAI also lists a Granola plugin for meeting-history search and context use in ChatGPT Work or Codex, but says availability depends on plugin, plan, and workspace settings. Privacy, audio handling, and participant consent
ChatGPT Meetings requires microphone and system-audio permissions. OpenAI says meeting audio streams to its service for note generation and is deleted from the Mac and its servers once notes are ready; unfinished processing or an offline computer can leave audio temporarily on the Mac. Notes pages are private by default. Sharing a page does not share its transcript. The app reminds you to inform participants and obtain consent, but it does not notify them or obtain consent for you. You are responsible for handling consent, and legal requirements differ by location. See OpenAI’s Meetings documentation.
Granola says notes are private by default and can be shared by the user. Its pricing page also describes differences in transcript retention and administrative controls across tiers. Meetings is not ChatGPT Record
OpenAI documents Meetings and Record as separate features. Record is also described as available in the macOS desktop app, with plan availability across Plus, Enterprise, Edu, Business, and Pro workspaces, and sessions capped at four hours. Its audio is deleted after transcription, while transcripts and canvases follow conversation retention settings. For consumer accounts, transcript and canvas model-training use depends on the “Improve the model for everyone” setting; Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspace data are excluded from training by default. Granola also lists Slack integration on all tiers and further integrations on paid tiers. These are Granola’s published plan details, not an independent market comparison: Granola pricing. OpenAI’s Meetings documentation describes plan eligibility but does not state a comparable Meetings price. A like-for-like cost comparison is therefore not established here.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose ChatGPT Meetings if you have access to its macOS beta and want meeting notes plus suggested work in ChatGPT, with actions you can review and start there.
- Choose Granola if you want a dedicated meeting-history workflow with search and integrations, or need to capture meetings across the contexts Granola says it supports.
- Use both if you want Granola’s meeting records available as context in ChatGPT and your account, plan, and workspace permit the connector.
Neither the product descriptions nor the cited documentation establish that one transcribes more accurately, produces better action items, or is more reliable. If those qualities decide the choice, compare them using your own typical calls, audio setup, terminology, and consent requirements. Granola’s update log includes a September 2, 2026 entry describing support for 32 languages; that is a dated vendor feature claim, not evidence of comparative transcription quality: Granola updates.
