To retry a failed screenshot API task in Make, open the scenario’s Incomplete executions tab, inspect the failed module, then select the incomplete execution and choose Retry selected if the error is temporary. Make resumes at the failed module using the configuration saved when the error occurred, so fix changed credentials, endpoints, or settings before retrying.
Retry a failed screenshot task in Make
- Open the relevant scenario and select Incomplete executions.
- Open the failed execution and inspect the warning or error on the failed HTTP or screenshot module. Check the run history and module settings if the cause is unclear.
- Decide whether the error is likely temporary. A connection interruption or a rate limit that has cleared may be suitable for a retry.
- If the request configuration is wrong, correct the incomplete execution or update its saved blueprint before retrying. A retry by itself reuses the settings from when the error occurred.
- Ensure the scenario is active, select the incomplete execution, and choose Retry selected. Monitor its status: Make describes it moving from Scheduled in to In Progress, then to Resolved if successful. If it fails again, it remains unresolved.
Make says retried incomplete executions run with the same configuration as when the error happened, making retries best suited to temporary errors such as RateLimitError or ConnectionError. Make’s incomplete-execution guide documents the process and error distinction.

Should you retry, or fix the task first?
| Error or situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Temporary connection problem | Retry after confirming connectivity has recovered. |
| Rate limit | Wait until the limit has cleared, then retry. Check the screenshot provider’s rate-limit guidance before automating repeated attempts. |
RuntimeError or DataError |
Inspect and manually resolve the underlying issue; Make says these often need manual resolution. |
| Wrong endpoint, credential, or module setting | Correct the saved incomplete execution or update the blueprint before retrying; the retry uses the prior configuration snapshot. |
| Unclear whether the original screenshot request completed | Check Make execution status and the provider’s task-status or idempotency guidance before resubmitting. |
Do not assume a repeated screenshot request is harmless. The screenshot API is not specified here, so its billing behavior, duplicate-output risk, idempotency support, and task-status lookup depend on that provider. Consult its documentation before adding automatic retries.

Retry incomplete executions through the Make API
For programmatic recovery, Make provides endpoints to list incomplete executions for a scenario, retry an individual execution, or retry multiple executions. These retry endpoints require the dlqs:write scope.
#1 Best Overall
- CRISP CLARITY: This 23.8″ Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
- INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
- THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors
- WORK SEAMLESSLY: This sleek monitor is virtually bezel-free on three sides, so the screen looks even bigger for the viewer. This minimalistic design also allows for seamless multi-monitor setups that enhance your workflow and boost productivity
- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
| Purpose | Endpoint |
|---|---|
| List a scenario’s incomplete executions | GET /dlqs?scenarioId={scenarioId} |
| Retry one incomplete execution | POST /dlqs/{dlqId}/retry |
| Retry multiple executions | POST /dlqs/retry |
| Update an incomplete execution’s blueprint before retrying | PATCH /dlqs/{dlqId} |
For a bulk retry, specify execution IDs or request all executions with optional exclusions. Make queues incomplete executions, so a large batch may not begin immediately. See the Make API reference for incomplete executions for request details and parameters.
Check for a still-running scenario before resubmitting
If Make started the scenario through its API, an API-call timeout does not necessarily mean the scenario stopped. Make documents that a responsive call can return a timeout after 40 seconds while scenario execution continues, and it supports a callback URL for completion information. Check the execution status before submitting the screenshot task again. Details are in Make’s Scenarios API documentation.

For webhook-triggered scenarios, separate a failure in the webhook-triggered run from a failure in the screenshot module itself. Make documents that an error stops an immediately running webhook scenario at once, while a scheduled scenario stops after three unsuccessful attempts. Webhook callers can also receive HTTP 429 when rate-limited. See Make’s webhook documentation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTroubleshoot a retry that still fails
- The same error returns: Reopen the failed module details. A persistent data or runtime error usually needs correction rather than another identical retry.
- The updated setting did not take effect: The incomplete execution uses its saved configuration. Correct that execution or update its blueprint before retrying.
- The retry has not started: Check its status; Make queues incomplete executions and bulk retries may be delayed.
- You are unsure whether a screenshot was already produced: Check the Make execution and the screenshot provider’s task status before starting a second request.
- A webhook caller received HTTP 429: Treat this as a webhook rate-limit response, not proof that the screenshot provider itself rejected the request.
Or skip the browser setup
If you would rather call a screenshot API directly than maintain a browser-based capture setup, ScreenshotNeo accepts one GET request with a URL and returns an image or PDF. Its API removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed. It also has an MCP server for AI agents, and includes 1,000 screenshots per month free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.
