If it must edit, limit it to the required sites and actions, use a low-privilege account, and require a separate human approval for consequential changes. Site access and approval to make a change are different controls; neither should depend on a single confirmation prompt.
First, find every route the agent could use to make a change
A browser is only one possible write path. An agent might update a site through a CMS, an API token, an MCP integration, a terminal command, or a browser session already signed into an administrator account. Identify the tools and credentials available to the agent before changing settings.

- If the task is read-only, disable write-capable tools and remove editing credentials.
- If editing is required, use a separate account or token with only the site role and permissions needed for that task. Do not give a general-purpose agent an administrator session.
- Check whether an integration or terminal command can write even when browser controls appear read-only.
For example, Cursor documents that agents can modify workspace files without approval by default, except configuration files, and that changes save immediately. Its documentation also warns that auto-reload can execute changes before review. That is a product-specific behavior, not a universal default. See Cursor Agent Security.

Restrict which sites and browser actions are allowed
Where the product supports it, set website access to deny by default and allow only the origins needed for the task. Check controls for uploads, downloads, and advanced browser or CDP access separately; they may be governed independently from ordinary site visits. Keep administrator-enforced restrictions in place so an individual user’s approval cannot bypass them.

OpenAI’s enterprise browser and computer-use documentation describes administrator controls for site access, uploads, downloads, debug/CDP capabilities, approval duration, saved approvals, and Computer Use availability. It also says members cannot use an approval to override an administrator restriction. The exact controls depend on workspace configuration and product availability; consult OpenAI’s enterprise browser and computer-use settings.
Require a separate approval for consequential edits
Permission to visit a site does not mean permission to publish, overwrite, or delete content there. Configure a distinct human confirmation for actions that can have lasting or external effects, such as publishing a page, deleting content, changing account access, or spending money. Keep terms acceptance and financial transactions behind affirmative human consent.

Product controls vary. Google Antigravity documents Default, Request Review, and Turbo permission presets; Turbo provides full read/write access without isolation. Its allow, deny, and ask rules take precedence over presets. The updated permission system applies to macOS and Linux, while Windows uses prior settings, so check the platform and version in use. A confirmation prompt is not a substitute for limiting credentials or enforcing administrator policy. For broader governance, the New Zealand National Cyber Security Centre recommends approved tool and version allowlists, risk-based approvals, human-readable logs, role separation, and preventing agents from changing their own privileges or making unapproved delegations. Isolate agents that use a computer or browser
Computer-use agents can interact with pages and accounts much as a person would. Run them in a dedicated virtual machine or container with minimal privileges, and restrict outbound network access to the domains required for the task. Avoid signing into sensitive accounts or exposing sensitive data in that environment.
AWS warns that content an agent sees can lead to unintended actions, including when page content conflicts with instructions. Its computer-use feature is identified as beta, and its guidance calls for human oversight of consequential or consent-requiring actions. See AWS Bedrock computer-use guidance.

Verify the controls with a safe test
Test the real route the agent would use, preferably against a staging site or test account. A setting that appears restrictive may not cover a connected API, terminal, or another tool.

- Confirm that a permitted read action succeeds.
- Attempt a representative write without approval and verify it is blocked or paused for review.
- Test that a user-level approval cannot override an administrator denial, where the product supports that policy.
- Review human-readable logs for the tool call and its outcome.
- Repeat the checks after changing the agent version, connected tools, credentials, or permission settings.
Controls are distributed across product settings and deployment architecture; there is no single universal switch that guarantees an agent cannot edit a website. Combine least-privilege credentials, site and tool restrictions, human review, isolation, and logging according to the agent’s actual write paths.
