What a rollback changes
A save rollback replaces the server’s world database with an earlier copy. The database contains the persistent world state, including player data, buildings, thralls and clans. Any progress made after the backup you select will disappear from the active world, which is why the current database must be preserved before you overwrite anything.

Settings in the Config folder, including ServerSettings.ini, are outside the world database. If you need the settings from the same period as the save, copy the Config folder separately before making the rollback.
Check which Conan Exiles build and filename you have
Do not rename a file until you have looked at the server’s Saved folder. Legacy and Enhanced servers use different database names, and using the wrong name leaves the server unable to find the restored world.

Some control panels display a backup date or an archive label instead of exposing these filenames. If the panel’s restore function is available, it normally performs the file swap for you; the manual procedure below explains what that operation is doing.
Before touching the save: a safety checklist
- Tell connected players that the server will be stopped and that all progress after the chosen backup will be lost.
- Stop the server completely. Never rename, delete or replace a save while the process is still running.
- Download the current live database over FTP, or otherwise copy it to a safe location outside the server’s
Savedfolder. - Copy the
Configfolder as well if you may need the current settings or want a restorable configuration snapshot. - Record which backup you selected, including its filename, date and any panel description.
- Make sure the server has enough storage for the preserved current database and the restored copy.
Keep the preserved copy until everyone has confirmed that the rollback is correct. It is your way back if you select the wrong backup or discover that a required file was missing.
Manual restore over FTP or a file manager
The following sequence works for either build once you substitute the live filename and backup pattern you found in the previous section. Use the server host’s file manager or FTP account to work in the folder that contains the live database and its backups.
1. Stop the server and wait for it to be offline
Use the host panel’s Stop control, or the equivalent shutdown action. Check that the status is stopped rather than merely restarting. A running process can still have the database open and can write a newer state back over your changes.
2. Preserve the current world
Download the current live file before renaming anything. On Legacy, that is normally game.db; on Enhanced, it is normally game_0.db. Give the downloaded copy a descriptive local name such as current-before-rollback-2026-10-14-game_0.db. Do not leave your only copy in the same folder where a panel cleanup job could remove it.

If the folder contains sidecar files for the live database, preserve those too before changing them. The files are part of the current state even if you ultimately decide not to put them back.

List the available backups and compare their timestamps, numbering and panel descriptions. On Legacy, hosts commonly expose names such as game_backup_1.db, game_backup_2.db and so on. On Enhanced, look for names such as game_0_backup_1.db and the other game_0_backup_*.db files.
Do not assume that a larger number is newer. One hosting guide calls game_backup_1.db the most recent Legacy backup, but numbering conventions are host-specific. Choose by the date or description shown by your host whenever possible, and write down the exact source filename.
4. Move the live database out of the way
Rename the live database rather than deleting it. For a Legacy server, rename game.db to a name such as game-current-old.db. For Enhanced, rename game_0.db to something such as game_0-current-old.db. The replacement name must not be one the server will interpret as the active database.
If a rename is not available in your panel, download the file first, then use the panel’s move or archive function. Do not overwrite the file until the preserved copy is safely stored.

5. Promote the selected backup
Rename or copy the chosen backup so that it has the exact live filename for your build:
- Legacy: rename the selected
game_backup_N.dbtogame.db. - Enhanced: rename the selected
game_0_backup_*.dbtogame_0.db.
Keep the original backup somewhere safe if your file manager performs a move instead of a copy. Check capitalization, underscores and the .db extension; a filename such as game_0.db.db will not be recognized as the intended database.
6. Decide how to handle Enhanced database sidecars
Enhanced databases can have game_0.db-wal and game_0.db-shm files. The two common hosting recommendations address different situations:

Never mix sidecars from one backup with the main database from another. If you cannot tell whether the files were created at the same time, keep a copy of every file, then follow your host’s documented convention rather than guessing.
7. Start the server and verify in game
Start the server only after the expected live filename is present. Wait for the normal startup process to finish, then join the server with a character whose progress you can identify. Check the map, player inventory and location, buildings, thralls and clan membership against the date of the backup you selected.

If the world is correct, leave the server running long enough to confirm that it saves normally. Keep the old live database and the downloaded copy until that check is complete.
Using a hosting panel’s Restore Backup action
Many game-server panels provide a built-in restore action that performs the same stop-and-replace operation without requiring FTP. Labels vary, but the workflow is usually:

- Open the server’s Backups, Files or Restore Backup area.
- Select the archive or snapshot dated before the problem occurred.
- Confirm the warning that the current world will be replaced.
- Execute the restore and wait for the panel to report completion.
- Start the server if the panel does not start it automatically.
- Join the server and verify the restored world in game.
Before confirming, download the current world if the panel offers a download option. A panel restore may preserve an archive automatically, but you should not rely on that unless the panel explicitly says so. If the panel exposes build-specific files, confirm that it restored game.db for Legacy or game_0.db for Enhanced.
If the restored world will not load
Try an older backup
The newest backup can itself be damaged. Stop the server again, move the failed restored database aside, and repeat the procedure with an older backup. A working older snapshot is preferable to repeatedly restarting a corrupted one.
Check the filename and sidecars
Confirm that the promoted file exactly matches the build’s live filename and that you did not leave sidecars belonging to a different database beside it. For Enhanced, revisit the sidecar decision above: a complete matching set should stay together, while stale sidecars from the previous live database may need to be removed after they have been preserved.
Return to the pre-rollback world
If no backup loads, stop the server and restore the preserved current database by renaming it back to game.db on Legacy or game_0.db on Enhanced. Put back its matching sidecars if you saved them as a set. This returns the server to the state it had before the rollback attempt, not to the failed backup.

A community browser tool called Supercraft save recovery is described as checking Conan Exiles databases without modifying the originals. Its effectiveness has not been independently verified here, so use it only on copies. Never point an unverified utility at the sole live database.
What will and will not come back after the rollback

This separation explains why a rollback can appear successful while rates, rules or other server settings remain unchanged: those settings are not stored in the world database.
Verification checklist after restart
- The server reaches its normal online state without repeated startup failures.
- A player can join and load into the expected map.
- The player’s location and inventory match the approximate backup date.
- Important buildings, thralls and clan data are present.
- Server settings are still correct, or the separately saved Config folder has been restored.
- A fresh save completes before you delete or overwrite any preserved copies.
If even one critical item is wrong, stop before making new changes. Record which backup and sidecar combination you used, then test the next older backup using the preserved files as your safety net.
Preventing a difficult rollback next time
Keep more than one dated backup and retain at least one copy outside the server’s file area. Save the world database and, when settings matter, the Config folder as a pair. Label each copy with the build, filename and capture date so that Legacy and Enhanced files cannot be confused during an emergency.

Before a major mod, configuration or server upgrade, make a manual download of the current database. That gives you a known-good restore point even if the host’s newest automated backup is damaged.
