Short answer: XSplit Broadcaster’s current general support documentation does not describe a universal automatic-restart switch for streams after a disconnect. Recovery options can vary by destination and output plugin, so check the specific output’s settings and status rather than assuming every XSplit stream reconnects the same way. On Twitch, Disconnect Protection can show viewers a reconnect message for up to 90 seconds, but that is a Twitch-side grace period—not an XSplit command to restart the broadcast.
Does XSplit Broadcaster automatically restart a disconnected stream?
There is no documented, universal auto-restart setting in XSplit’s current Output Plugin Properties or its Getting Started guide. The getting-started instructions describe choosing an output and clicking Stream to begin; they do not explain automatic recovery after a disconnect.

That does not establish that no particular output plugin or version has its own reconnect behavior. XSplit says output options vary by streaming service, and some settings can be locked or overridden for compatibility. Inspect the properties for the exact output plugin and destination you use, and distinguish an active reconnect attempt from a stream that has stopped.

What to check after a disconnect
- Identify the destination and output. Note the platform and the precise XSplit output plugin. Open that output’s properties and check which controls it actually offers; settings are not necessarily identical across services. See XSplit’s output properties documentation.
- Check whether the connection can support the selected bitrate. In the output’s Channel settings, use Test bandwidth if available. XSplit says this can help determine whether the current connection supports the selected bitrate. Higher bitrate needs more upload bandwidth; compare the test and your selected bitrate with the destination platform’s current recommendations. A successful test is not a guarantee against intermittent outages.
- Check the network adapter. If the PC has multiple adapters, inspect Network Connection in the output properties. XSplit recommends leaving it at Let the system decide for most users, while allowing a specific adapter to be selected when needed.
- Determine where recovery stopped. Record whether XSplit says it is reconnecting or has stopped, whether the platform still considers the event live, and any displayed status or error. This helps separate a local network interruption from an output-connection or platform-side issue.
- Escalate with useful details. If it keeps happening, provide XSplit or platform support with your XSplit Broadcaster version, output plugin, destination, exact status or error, and whether the app reports reconnecting or stopped. The reviewed official documentation does not establish one manual restart sequence that applies to every plugin and platform.
Twitch Disconnect Protection is not XSplit auto-restart
Twitch’s Disconnect Protection is a platform-side feature. Twitch says viewers can see a reconnect message for up to 90 seconds while the streamer troubleshoots and reconnects, and lists XSplit as supported. This provides a viewer-facing window; it does not show that XSplit will automatically restart a broadcast. Check whether the feature is enabled in Twitch’s Stream Settings, then troubleshoot the XSplit output and connection separately.

XSplit’s PTR release notes updated February 14, 2018, for release PTR 3.3.1801.3110 list a fix for “Stream gets stuck restarting when attempting to reconnect.” That historical bug-fix entry is not evidence of a current defect, a current setting, or a guaranteed reconnect behavior.
