How to Resize ShrinkTheWeb Screenshots Without Changing the Page Viewport

Change ShrinkTheWeb output dimensions without altering the browser viewport: use output-size settings, preserve viewport values, and verify legacy integration behavior.

To change the dimensions of a ShrinkTheWeb screenshot without changing how the site lays out, adjust the screenshot output settings and leave the browser viewport settings unchanged. In the Drupal 8 integration guide, custom_width controls output width and max_height sets the height to crop; native_resolution and widescreen_resolution_y set the browser viewport width and height. The guide was last updated March 4, 2019, so confirm current compatibility and account availability before relying on those parameters.

Separate screenshot output size from the page viewport

The viewport is the browser’s rendering area. It can affect responsive behavior, such as whether a page uses a mobile or desktop layout. Output-size settings affect the image returned from that rendering, or how much of it is retained. To resize the result without changing the page’s responsive layout, change only the output-size setting relevant to your goal.

Goal Parameter in the Drupal 8 guide Documented meaning
Set returned screenshot width custom_width Custom output width
Limit or crop returned height max_height Height to crop the image
Set browser viewport width native_resolution Browser resolution or viewport width
Set browser viewport height widescreen_resolution_y Browser resolution or viewport height

These meanings come from the Drupal 8 ShrinkTheWeb integration guide. Its advanced example uses custom_width 600, max_height 320, native_resolution 1020, and widescreen_resolution_y 760. Those are illustrative values, not recommended dimensions for every site.

Change one capture in the Drupal integration

The integration guide distinguishes basic use and field formatters, which use global settings, from an advanced per-request options array, which can customize an individual capture. For a one-off resize, use the advanced request configuration and retain the viewport values already used by your integration. Change custom_width for output width or max_height for the crop height, as applicable.

  1. Find the advanced per-request options array for the capture you want to adjust.
  2. Keep native_resolution and widescreen_resolution_y at their existing values so the browser viewport remains the same.
  3. Set or change custom_width to alter the output width, or max_height to set a crop-height limit.
  4. Capture the page and inspect both the layout and returned image dimensions. If the page layout changes, verify that a viewport value or a global setting was not changed elsewhere.

The cited integration documentation is dated March 4, 2019. It does not establish whether these parameters remain compatible with current ShrinkTheWeb API behavior, which account plans currently include them, whether resizing preserves aspect ratio, how upscaling behaves, or how crop settings interact with full-length capture. Check current vendor documentation or account settings before depending on any of those details. The guide also says some features may require an account upgrade but does not establish current plan entitlements.

Or skip the browser setup

If you would rather make a screenshot request than configure a browser integration, ScreenshotNeo accepts a URL and returns a screenshot or PDF. For example, this cURL request saves a WebP capture of Stripe:

Rank #2
Free Fling File Transfer Software for Windows [PC Download]
  • Intuitive interface of a conventional FTP client
  • Easy and Reliable FTP Site Maintenance.
  • FTP Automation and Synchronization
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options. Cookie and consent banners are accepted like a visitor and removed along with supported newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
