To change a text box’s dimensions in Google Slides on a computer, select the box and use Format > Format options > Size & Position. Turn on Lock aspect ratio to preserve its proportions. To change how text fits inside it, use the separate Text fitting controls. To remove the box, select the object and choose Edit > Delete.

Choose Format > Format options.

In the sidebar, open Size & Position and change the box’s dimensions. The official instructions do not specify a required unit or keyboard shortcut. See Google Slides’ instructions for resizing and arranging objects.

Scale the box without changing its proportions
“Scale” is often used to mean resizing proportionally; Google Slides’ documented control is Lock aspect ratio. In Format > Format options > Size & Position, enable that option when changing the dimensions so the box keeps its width-to-height relationship. If you do not need to preserve the proportions, leave it off.
Make text fit the box
Changing the box’s dimensions and changing how its text fits are different tasks. Select the box and open Format > Format options > Text fitting. You can also right-click the text box and choose Text fitting, or use the text-fitting icon shown next to a newly created box. Google documents three choices: Do not autofit, Shrink text on overflow, and Resize shape to fit text. See Google Docs Editors Help on text fitting.

Shrink text on overflow: Reduce text size when it overflows the box.

Resize shape to fit text: Adjust the shape to fit its text.
Google says a newly created text box automatically resizes to fit text, while text in a newly created placeholder shrinks to fit by default. The help documentation does not promise that text fitting will expand a box’s width to match every line. If you want to change the behavior for content you create later, open Tools > Preferences and adjust the text-fitting preference. Those preferences apply to new content; they do not change existing text boxes or placeholders.

Delete a text box on a computer

Click the box’s border to select the text box object. If you see a text insertion cursor, you are editing the contents; click the border to select the object instead.

Choose Edit > Delete. The selected box and its contents are removed from the slide.

Resize

Tap the text box to select it.

Drag one of the blue square handles around the box to change its size.
Delete

Tap the text box to select it.

Tap More, then tap Delete.
