If you still know the current administrator password, change it in Satisfactory’s in-game Server Manager. If the password is forgotten, stop the dedicated server, back up its files, and delete only the port-specific ServerSettings.<PORT>.sav file—for example, ServerSettings.7777.sav. Start the server again and set a new administrator password when you reconnect through Server Manager.

Deleting that settings file does not target the world save, but it does reset several server settings: the server name, player-password protection, automatic-load session name, certificate and administrator password. Record those values before removing the file.

Choose the correct password operation
Satisfactory dedicated servers use separate credentials for different purposes. The Admin Password limits administrator privileges, including loading saves, changing server options and creating a new game. The player or client-protection password controls ordinary player access. Changing one does not automatically change the other.

Use Server Manager for the least disruptive change. Use the settings-file procedure only when you cannot authenticate as an administrator. Use the API when you already operate authenticated automation and can handle token rotation safely.

What the Admin Password protects
The Admin Password is the credential that gates administrator actions on a dedicated server. Official dedicated-server documentation describes it as the password used to limit administrator privileges—such as save-game loading, server options and new-game creation—to a defined group of players.
This is not the same as enabling or changing player-password protection. A player may be required to enter the client-protection password to join, while an administrator separately uses the Admin Password for privileged actions. Treat the two values as separate credentials, and do not assume that changing one changes the other.

This is the normal password-change path. It keeps the existing server configuration intact because you edit the credential through Server Manager instead of removing the settings file.
- Start Satisfactory. Open the game on a client that can reach the dedicated server.
- Open Server Manager. Select the entry for the dedicated server you administer.
- Authenticate with the current Admin Password. The existing administrator credential is required before privileged settings can be edited.
- Open the server settings. Find the field labeled Admin Password. Do not use the player-password protection field unless you intend to change player access as well.
- Enter a new non-empty password. Use the value you want administrators to enter from this point forward.
- Save the settings. Allow Server Manager to finish writing the change before closing it.
- Reconnect administration clients. Any console, tool or game client that performs administrator actions must use the new credential.
The documented workflow does not instruct you to delete a save or stop the server for this change. If your particular server build displays a confirmation or asks you to reconnect, follow that prompt; do not remove the settings file merely because the password was changed successfully.
After a successful change
- Test one harmless administrator action, such as opening the administrative settings view, to verify that the new credential works.
- Update password records used by other trusted administrators and automation.
- Remove the old password from scripts, notes and password managers where it is no longer valid.
- Tell players only if the change affects a shared administrative process; the Admin Password is not normally needed for ordinary joining.
Reset a forgotten Admin Password
If nobody with administrator access can authenticate, the documented recovery method is a settings-file reset. It requires control of the machine or hosting panel where the dedicated server stores its configuration.
1. Stop the server cleanly
Stop the dedicated-server process before touching its settings. A clean shutdown gives the server a chance to finish writing files. Do not delete or edit the file while the process is still running.

2. Make a backup
Copy the server settings and save directories to a separate location before deleting anything. Keep the backup until you have confirmed that the server starts, the world is present and the replacement settings are correct.

A backup is especially important because the reset affects more than one credential. It gives you a way to recover the previous configuration if you identify the wrong port or remove the wrong file.
3. Identify the game port
The settings filename includes the dedicated server’s game port. The pattern is:
ServerSettings.<PORT>.savFor a server using port 7777, the file is:
ServerSettings.7777.savThe official FAQ explains that the port number can be found just above the server save-game directory. Use the port configured for this server, not a port from a different instance on the same machine.
4. Delete only the matching settings file
With the process stopped and your backup complete, delete the one ServerSettings.<PORT>.sav file that matches the server’s game port. Do not delete the world-save files or the entire save directory.
This is a targeted credential reset. Removing the world save directory is a different, destructive operation and is not part of the documented password-recovery procedure.
5. Start the server and reconnect
Start the dedicated server normally. Add or select it in Satisfactory’s Server Manager and connect to it. During setup, choose a new administrator password and recreate any other settings that were cleared with the file.
Use a non-empty value. If you recorded the old server name, player-protection password, automatic-load session name and certificate before the reset, restore them deliberately rather than guessing.
What the settings-file reset changes
The reset removes the server’s stored settings record, so the Admin Password is not the only value affected. Expect these items to return to an unconfigured or newly generated state:

- Server name: the name displayed when clients find or select the server.
- Player password: the client-protection credential used to limit who can join.
- Auto-load session name: the session identifier used when the server automatically loads a game.
- Certificate: the server certificate associated with its stored configuration.
- Admin Password: the administrator credential you are trying to replace.
The documented reset instruction targets the settings file, not the world save. Therefore, the world is a separate concern: do not interpret a successful password reset as permission to delete save files, and do not delete save files as a way to clear credentials.
Values to record before resetting
- The exact server display name.
- The current player/client-protection password, if one is enabled.
- The automatic-load session name.
- The configured game port and any panel mapping associated with it.
- A copy of the settings file and the world-save directory.
Because the certificate is also reset, clients may need to treat the server as newly configured when they connect again. Follow the prompts shown by your Server Manager rather than reusing an old certificate file blindly.

Use the HTTPS API when you already have administrator access
Advanced operators can change the credential through the HTTPS API’s SetAdminPassword operation. The operation requires administrator privileges and updates the currently configured Admin Password without using the file-deletion recovery path.
The important security behavior is token rotation. Calling SetAdminPassword invalidates all previously issued client and admin authentication tokens, including the token used for the request. Your automation must authenticate again and obtain a replacement token before making another authenticated call.
API conditions to account for
- Administrator authentication is required. A caller that is not already authorized as an administrator cannot use this operation to elevate itself.
- An empty Admin Password is rejected. The API reports
cannot_reset_admin_passwordwhen the requested replacement is empty; this operation cannot be used to remove administrator protection by sending an empty string. - The two password roles must remain distinct. If the proposed Admin Password is the same as the client-protection password, the API reports
password_in_use. Choose a different administrator value. - All old tokens stop working. Restarting an automation script with a cached token will fail until it performs the API’s normal authentication flow again.
Use the exact request format and authentication headers documented for the API version installed on your server. Avoid putting the password or bearer token in shell history, public issue reports or unencrypted configuration files. The operation is most useful for controlled administration systems that can securely store a new credential and deliberately handle token invalidation.
How the three methods differ in practice
The deciding question is whether a trusted administrator can still authenticate. If the answer is yes, Server Manager changes only the value you select and avoids collateral reconfiguration. It is the appropriate choice for a routine rotation, a staff change or a suspected disclosure.

If authentication is impossible, the file reset trades convenience for recovery. It needs filesystem or control-panel access, a clean shutdown and a backup. It also requires you to recreate the server name, player password, automatic-load session name and certificate. Plan for a short configuration pass after startup rather than treating the deletion as a password-only edit.
The API is the automation option. It is useful when a monitoring or management service already has administrator credentials, but it is not a bypass. The caller must be authorized before the request, must send a non-empty replacement, and must immediately discard every cached token. A script that changes the password successfully but keeps using its old token will appear broken until it authenticates again.

None of these procedures changes the world save as part of the password operation. The settings-file method is the only one that intentionally resets several non-world values. This distinction matters on a machine hosting more than one instance: selecting the wrong port-specific file can reset another server’s identity and access settings while leaving its world intact.

The expected file is not present
First, confirm that the server is fully stopped and that you are looking in the dedicated-server save/configuration location, not in a client’s local game folder. The settings filename is tied to the server’s game port, so check the port shown above the server save-game directory.
Settings may not be generated until the dedicated server has closed gracefully. Start the server, let it initialize, stop it cleanly, and then check the location again. If multiple server instances exist, search for the port-specific name rather than deleting every file beginning with ServerSettings.
The password still fails after deletion
- Verify that you deleted the file for the active game port.
- Confirm that the server process was stopped before deletion and restarted afterward.
- Make sure you are connecting to the same server instance whose files you changed; a panel may point to a different directory or port.
- Check that the new password is non-empty and entered exactly as configured.
- Close and reopen administration clients so they do not continue presenting stale credentials or tokens.
The world appears to be missing
Stop and do not overwrite anything. Confirm that the world-save directory from your backup still exists and that the server is pointed at the same save location. The documented password reset deletes the port-specific settings file, not the world save; a missing world usually indicates a path, instance or backup problem rather than a requirement to delete more files.
Players can no longer join
Recreate the player-password protection setting if the reset cleared it. Decide whether the server should be protected, set the intended value in Server Manager, save it, and provide the new player credential only to the people who should join. Do not give ordinary players the Admin Password merely because the player password was reset.

API calls fail after a successful change
Obtain a new authentication token. The old client and admin tokens are intentionally invalidated by SetAdminPassword. If the API returns cannot_reset_admin_password, supply a non-empty value. If it returns password_in_use, choose an Admin Password different from the client-protection password.
Operational checklist
When the current password is known
- Open Server Manager.
- Connect with the existing Admin Password.
- Edit the Admin Password field.
- Save a non-empty replacement.
- Reconnect administrative clients with the new value.
When the current password is forgotten
- Stop the dedicated server cleanly.

- Run the authentication flow again and securely store the replacement token.
- Test one authorized operation and confirm that unauthorized access remains blocked.
How to avoid another lockout
Keep a current, offline record of the server’s game port, configuration location and recovery backup. Store the Admin Password in a password manager accessible to the people who operate the server, and keep the player-protection password in a separate entry. For automated administration, design token renewal into the client so a password change cannot leave the service permanently using an invalid token.
Before changing credentials on a busy server, tell other administrators when the change will occur and confirm who can perform the file reset if the new value is mistyped. A short maintenance note containing the port-specific settings filename and backup location can prevent an emergency search through unrelated server directories.
