To change an app execution alias in Windows 11, open Start, search for Manage app execution aliases, and switch the relevant command entry on or off. For Python commands that open the Microsoft Store, turn off the App Installer Python entries. This is a per-alias toggle—not a global reset.
Change an app execution alias

Open Start and search for Manage app execution aliases. You can also open Settings > Apps > Advanced app settings > App execution aliases if that route is available on your Windows 11 version. Start search is useful if the Settings labels or navigation differ.

Switch the relevant alias off to disable that shortcut. Microsoft documents this approach for the App Installer Python shortcuts in its Python on Windows FAQ.

Close and reopen Command Prompt, PowerShell, or Windows Terminal, then try the command again so the new terminal session checks command resolution afresh.
If typing python still opens the Microsoft Store
Disabling the App Installer shortcut changes that alias; it does not install Python or fix an existing Python installation. Check that Python is installed and that its location is on PATH. Microsoft says that when installing Python from python.org, selecting Add to PATH makes its python command take priority over the shortcut. If the command still resolves incorrectly, inspect the intended Python installation and PATH rather than treating the alias toggle as a repair.

Alias toggles and app Reset are different controls
An app execution alias is an individual command shortcut that you can enable or disable. Windows also has a Reset option under an app’s Advanced options, but that applies to the selected app’s state; Microsoft does not document it as a global reset for execution aliases.
