How to reset an RX500A in its on-screen menu
These instructions are for the RX500A, not a universal Yamaha procedure. Use the receiver’s on-screen interface and select the reset scope that fits your need.
- Open SETTINGS.
- Choose Function > Factory Reset.
- Select All Reset to initialize all settings, or Network Reset to initialize network settings only.
- Select Execute and allow the reset to finish.
After All Reset, the RX500A powers off automatically; the Setup Guide starts the next time you turn it on. After Network Reset, a completion message appears and the receiver remains on. Yamaha RX500A User Guide

- Hold STRAIGHT while pressing MASTER ON/OFF to turn the receiver on.
- Turn the PROGRAM selector to choose PRESET.
- Press STRAIGHT repeatedly to select RESET. Select CANCEL instead if you do not want to initialize settings.
- Turn MASTER ON/OFF off to confirm. The initial factory settings activate the next time you turn the receiver on.

The RX-V863 offers narrower choices as well as an all-parameters option. Use its manual to confirm which settings each category covers before selecting one.

A reset changes settings; it does not establish that a hardware or power fault has been repaired. If the receiver will not power on or quickly returns to standby, check the troubleshooting section for your exact model. The RX-V863 manual, for example, lists checking the power connection, speaker impedance, and secure speaker wiring among its troubleshooting guidance. If the listed remedies do not resolve the issue, it recommends contacting an authorized Yamaha dealer or service center.
