For most Samsung washers, the closest thing to a general reset is a power cycle—not a universal factory reset. Unplug the washer or switch off its circuit breaker, wait about 1–5 minutes, then restore power. Samsung says this may resolve a problem in rare cases, but it does not repair the underlying cause of a recurring error.
How to reset most Samsung washers
- Unplug the washer, or turn off power to it at the circuit breaker.
- Wait about 1–5 minutes for residual electrical charge to clear.
- Restore power and check whether the symptom remains.
This is Samsung U.S. Support’s general power-cycle guidance. Samsung states, “There really isn’t a way to reset the washing machine.” The procedure interrupts power; it is not a promise to erase settings or repair a fault. See Samsung’s washer reset guidance.

Record and troubleshoot an error before resetting
Write down any displayed error code before turning off power. Samsung explains that clearing a code does not correct its cause. For example, 4E/4C indicates a water-fill problem; the code may return if the water-supply issue remains.
- Use Samsung’s error-code troubleshooting guidance or look up your washer’s support information by model.
- If the same error returns after a power cycle, do not keep clearing it. Samsung warns that repeated resets can erase error-code history that may help a technician diagnose the washer.
- Arrange service if troubleshooting points to a fault that requires repair; a reset is not a repair step.
Choose the right kind of reset
| Action | What it changes | Which washers | Does it fix a washer fault? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power cycle | Interrupts and restores appliance power. | Samsung’s general reset-like step. | It may clear a temporary glitch, but does not correct an underlying cause. |
| Network reset | Refreshes Wi-Fi/network information. | Wi-Fi-capable models. | No; it is for network information, not washer troubleshooting generally. |
| Calibration | Calibrates weight detection. | Only models with a Calibration mode; the procedure varies. | No; it is not a general reset. |
| Menu option labeled “Factory Reset” | Not established as a universal function; what it changes depends on the model. | Model-specific. Samsung’s WV60A9900AV specification lists this option. | Do not assume it addresses a fault; check the exact model manual. |
Reset Wi-Fi on a compatible washer
Samsung U.S. gives this sequence for Wi-Fi-capable washers: hold Smart Control until “AP” appears (about 3 seconds), hold Temp until “OK” appears (about 7 seconds), then turn off the washer. This resets Wi-Fi/network information; it is not a factory reset of the whole appliance. Check the manual if your controls or display differ.

Calibrate only when your model calls for it
Calibration adjusts the washer’s weight detection and requires an empty drum. Samsung says the steps vary: some models require the washer to be on, others off, and some do not have a Calibration mode. The often-mentioned Temp + Delay End combination is not universal. Follow the instructions in the manual for your exact model. Samsung explains calibration in its guidance on installing a Samsung washing machine and troubleshooting poor spinning.

A factory-reset label is not proof that every Samsung washer has the same feature or button sequence. Samsung’s WV60A9900AV specification lists “Factory Reset” among that model’s washing options; this is model-specific evidence, not a universal procedure. Look up your model code in Samsung’s U.S. washer support portal and use its exact manual before selecting a model-specific option.
