If your Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2 shows the wrong language during setup, change the language on the connected phone first. Samsung says a paired Galaxy watch takes its language from that phone. Reset the watch only if changing the phone language does not fix the display, because a reset deletes data and requires setup again.
Change the connected phone’s language first
Samsung’s US troubleshooting guide says the language displayed by a paired Galaxy watch is based on the connected phone’s language. On that phone, open Settings, find General or General management, then Languages. Select the language you want and check the watch again. If the watch still shows the wrong language, Samsung recommends repeating the phone-language change or resetting the watch. Try the language adjustment before resetting so you can avoid erasing watch data if it solves the problem.

A reset returns the watch to its default settings, and data may be lost. If the watch can connect to Galaxy Wearable, back up important watch data before proceeding. Samsung’s password troubleshooting guidance advises backing up through Galaxy Wearable before a reset: Cannot remember the password to unlock your Samsung smart watch.

Choose a reset method
Samsung documents two routes: reset in Galaxy Wearable when the watch is connected and the app is usable, or reset from the watch’s own settings. The app route may be easier if the watch’s language makes its menus difficult to read; it is not guaranteed to be available in every pairing or setup state.

Reset the Galaxy Watch Active2 from its settings
Samsung’s Active2 reset instructions identify the standard SM-R820/R830 models and LTE SM-R825/R835 variants. The documented sequence is:

- From the watch face, press the Home button.
- Open Settings.
- Choose General, then Reset.
- Read the notice that data will be deleted. Confirm only if you are ready to reset.

What happens after the reset
A reset restores the watch’s default configuration. You will need to set it up again afterward, including pairing or connecting it as required. If the language problem returns during setup, check the connected phone’s language before repeating the reset.

Change the language on the connected phone first, since Samsung says that setting controls the language on a paired watch. If the menus remain unreadable and Galaxy Wearable is connected and usable, try its reset route. If the watch is disconnected, Samsung’s documented alternative is to reset from the watch settings; navigating that route may be difficult in an unfamiliar language.
