To reset only the Samsung Camera app, open Camera, go to its settings, tap Reset settings, and confirm. If you’re troubleshooting a problem that persists, you can instead clear Camera’s app data in Android Settings. Samsung says that clearing Camera data does not delete saved photos or videos. Neither option is the same as a whole-phone factory reset, which erases personal data.
Which Samsung Camera reset should you use?
Samsung provides two app-level options. A factory data reset is a separate operation for the entire phone or tablet, not a routine way to reset Camera.

How do I reset my Samsung camera settings?
- Open the Camera app.
- Open Camera settings. On Galaxy S25 series devices and devices running One UI 7.0 or later, tap the four-dot Quick settings icon first, then tap Settings.
- Tap Reset settings.
- Confirm the reset when prompted.
This returns Camera preferences to their defaults. Samsung lists it among troubleshooting steps for Camera errors; it is not a guaranteed fix. See Samsung’s Camera troubleshooting guidance.

No. Samsung says clearing the Camera app’s data resets its settings to default values, but saved photos, videos, and other personal data will not be deleted. The route is Settings > Apps > Camera > Storage > Clear data > Delete. See Samsung’s instructions for a Galaxy camera that will not open.

That assurance is specific to Camera. Clearing data for other apps can remove personal settings or data stored within those apps; don’t assume their data is protected in the same way. Samsung explains the general implications in its guide to clearing app cache and data.
What if the reset doesn’t fix the camera?
For errors such as “Camera Failed,” “Cannot launch Camera,” freezing, lag, or a preview that does not work, Samsung also recommends steps such as restarting the device and updating Camera or the Galaxy device. Samsung Members can also run camera diagnostics on Galaxy devices where the app is installed. If Camera continues to fail after troubleshooting, consult Samsung support or repair guidance. Why a factory reset is different
A factory data reset affects the whole phone or tablet and deletes personal data. Samsung recommends backing up important information first; account credentials may be required to complete setup or the reset. Don’t choose it just to restore Camera settings.

Samsung’s Reset all settings option is also different: Samsung says it does not erase apps or personal data. Neither it nor a factory data reset is required for the Camera app’s own Reset settings option. See Samsung’s factory-reset guidance.
