Choose the reset that matches the problem: reboot the robot for a general glitch, reset Wi-Fi for a connection or router change, and use a factory reset only when you intend to erase saved information or the manufacturer recommends it. The steps are model-specific—find the exact model number and follow its official instructions before pressing buttons.
Which kind of reset does your robot vacuum need?
“Reset” can mean different things. A reboot restarts the robot; a Wi-Fi reset addresses its network connection; a factory reset restores settings and may erase saved data. Manufacturers do not use one universal procedure or guarantee the same effects across models.

| Action | When to consider it | What may change |
|---|---|---|
| Reboot | A temporary error or other typical issue, after basic care and maintenance | For Roomba and Braava models, iRobot says rebooting does not delete maps, schedules, or preferences. Button steps and timing vary by model. iRobot’s reboot instructions. |
| Wi-Fi reset | The robot will not connect, or you need to connect it to a different router or network | Intended to address Wi-Fi pairing, not necessarily to restore all factory settings. The procedure varies by model. Eufy’s Wi-Fi reset instructions. |
| Factory reset | The robot is unresponsive or stuck with an error, or model-specific support guidance calls for restoring factory settings | May disconnect Wi-Fi and delete settings, schedules, maps, or cleaning logs. Exact effects depend on model. |
Find the exact model before following button steps
Check the label on the robot or its app for the full model name or number. Then open that model’s official support instructions and confirm they describe the operation you want. Even within one brand, procedures can differ: Roborock publishes separate factory-reset steps for its general covered models, the S5, and the E2, E3, E4, and E5; Eufy separates Wi-Fi reset instructions by RoboVac family.
Do not treat a pinhole or button combination shown for one model as a universal reset method. If the official page does not match your model, stop and locate the correct instructions rather than guessing.

How to reboot the robot
For a routine glitch, start with a reboot if the manufacturer offers one for your model. iRobot says a reboot resolves many typical robot issues and is most often used to clear an error after proper care and maintenance. It says rebooting does not delete maps, schedules, or preferences.
On iRobot products, newer models may have an in-app reboot path; manual steps use the CLEAN or POWER button, with timing that varies by model. Older non-Wi-Fi models have a different button sequence. Use iRobot’s model-specific reboot guidance rather than applying one button hold to every Roomba or Braava.
How to reset Wi-Fi without restoring factory settings
If the problem is network connectivity—such as a router change—look for the manufacturer’s Wi-Fi reset procedure, not the factory-reset procedure. Eufy lists Wi-Fi reset steps by RoboVac family. For the L70 Hybrid, Eufy explicitly distinguishes resetting Wi-Fi to reconnect to a device, router, or network from restoring factory settings for an unresponsive robot or one stuck with an error.

What a factory reset can erase
Read the model’s official reset page before proceeding. Factory restore can be consequential: for the Roborock models covered by its general instructions, the manufacturer says the reset disconnects Wi-Fi and deletes settings such as schedules and cleaning logs, including maps; firmware returns to the version installed at manufacture. For Roborock E2, E3, E4, and E5, its instructions say Wi-Fi, settings, schedules, maps, and cleaning logs are affected, though some aggregate totals are retained.
After a reset that disconnects Wi-Fi, expect to reconnect or re-add the robot in its app using the manufacturer’s setup instructions for that model. Do not assume that saved maps, schedules, or other information can be recovered.

These examples show why model identification matters. They apply only to the models described in the linked manufacturer instructions; do not use them for another model, even from the same brand.
Roborock E2, E3, E4, and E5
Roborock’s instructions for these four models say to hold Power, Spot Cleaning, and Recharge together for 10–15 seconds, until the power button blinks and the robot gives a voice prompt. Then wait for the robot to restart. The manufacturer notes that Wi-Fi, settings, schedules, maps, and cleaning logs are affected, although some aggregate totals remain. See Roborock’s instructions for E2, E3, E4, and E5.

Other Roborock models covered by the general reset article
Roborock’s general article describes holding Home, pressing the reset button near the Wi-Fi LED once with a pin while continuing to hold Home, then continuing to hold Home until the robot signals that restoration is underway. The manufacturer warns that Wi-Fi is disconnected and settings, schedules, maps, and cleaning logs are deleted; firmware returns to the version installed at manufacture. Use this only if your exact model is covered by Roborock’s general factory-reset instructions.
Roborock S5
The S5 has a different sequence: hold Recharge, press the reset button next to the Wi-Fi LED, and continue holding Recharge until the restore signal. Roborock also warns that Wi-Fi is disconnected and firmware reverts to the factory version. Check the S5-specific instructions before proceeding.
Eufy L70 Hybrid
Eufy frames factory reset as an option when the L70 Hybrid does not respond to its top buttons or is stuck with an error. Its instructions say to take the robot off the charging base, press the Reset button with a clip, then dock the robot or press Start/Pause to finish. These steps are for the L70 Hybrid only; consult Eufy’s L70 Hybrid guidance.
After the reset
Follow the model’s app setup instructions if the reset has removed the Wi-Fi connection. Reconnect or re-add the robot as directed, then check which settings and schedules remain before relying on them. Because factory-reset effects vary, use the manufacturer’s model-specific page to establish what was erased.
