Which Rain Bird WiFi product are you resetting?
Identify the device before pressing buttons. The LNK2 is a plug-in WiFi module; RC2 and ARC controllers have built-in WiFi and use the controller’s WiFi button. Rain Bird documents separate procedures for these products, so do not use one sequence as if it were universal.

These are WiFi resets, not irrigation-program resets. The LNK2 instructions specifically say schedules remain in place. RC2/ARC program-reset instructions use different buttons; consult the instructions for the exact controller model before attempting to clear its irrigation program.

How to reset an LNK2 module to QuickPair
- Check that the device is an LNK2. Find the plug-in module and its button. Do not follow this sequence on an RC2/ARC controller.
- Remove the old controller card if it is still in the app. Rain Bird recommends deleting the existing card before pairing again.
- Hold the LNK2 button for more than five seconds. This erases saved WiFi settings and restores factory WiFi settings, putting the module into QuickPair broadcast mode. The irrigation schedule is retained. Rain Bird describes the WiFi reset as irreversible; you will need to set up the WiFi connection again. See the LNK2 WiFi User Guide and the 2023 LNK2 guide PDF.
- Add the controller again. Open the Rain Bird app, tap Add Controller, then follow the on-screen setup instructions.
Check these setup requirements before trying again
Confirm that your controller supports LNK2
Rain Bird lists ESP-TM2, ESP-RZXe, ESP-ME3 and ESP-ME controllers manufactured after November 2, 2016, as compatible with LNK2. It also lists LXIVM, LXME2 and LXME2 Pro. Compatible panels have a WiFi symbol; verify the model and, where relevant, manufacturing date before buying a replacement module. Rain Bird’s compatibility guidance provides the list, and its ESP-TM2 product page describes upgrading that controller to WiFi with LNK2.

Use a 2.4 GHz WiFi network
Rain Bird says LNK2 is not compatible with 5.0 GHz WiFi. Make sure the network selected during setup is 2.4 GHz. If your router presents the bands under separate network names, choose the 2.4 GHz one.
Make sure the phone stays on the intended network
During app setup, check which local network your phone is actually using. Rain Bird notes that a phone may automatically reconnect to a different local network, causing setup to fail even if the module has connected.

What to do if the controller will not stay connected
An unstable connection may point to weak WiFi coverage rather than a need to reset repeatedly. Rain Bird identifies weak signal as a cause of irregular connection. Assess reception where the controller is installed, not just beside the router.
- If practical, move the router closer to the controller.
- If the controller is at the edge of coverage, a 2.4 GHz WiFi extender may help. After using one, configure the controller for the extender’s network name and password; extending coverage alone does not change the network saved on the controller.
Rain Bird describes these options in its LNK2 troubleshooting guide. It does not establish that an extender will resolve every individual connection problem.

Why is the LNK2 light blinking green but not connecting?
A blinking light or failed app setup does not by itself prove the module is faulty. First verify compatibility, the 2.4 GHz band, the phone’s selected network and signal at the controller. If the module seems not to communicate with the controller, check that it is seated correctly and inspect its pins.
Reseat the module and inspect the pins
- Remove the LNK2 module from the controller.
- Inspect the connector pins for bending or visible damage.
- Reinsert the module securely, then check whether its LED behavior or connection changes.
Rain Bird’s LED light guidance recommends removing and reinserting the module and checking for bent pins when addressing a module-to-controller communication error.

Reset the controller only if reseating does not help
For an LNK/LNK2 communication error that continues after reseating, Rain Bird’s sequence is to remove the module, press the controller’s reset button, wait three seconds, then reinsert the module. Afterward, reset the module while it is plugged in and set it up again in the app; delete any old controller card before pairing. The controller reset button in this troubleshooting sequence is distinct from the LNK2 WiFi button. Follow Rain Bird’s LED troubleshooting guidance for the communication-error steps.

If those checks and steps do not restore communication, Rain Bird advises contacting customer service to determine whether the module and controller are covered by warranty for replacement. A connection failure alone is not enough to conclude that either device is defective.
