Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIf you can’t unlock your Samsung Galaxy A12 and accept that a reset will erase data stored on the phone, use Android Recovery and the A12-specific button sequence below. Before you start, make sure you know the Google Account previously added and synced to the phone: Factory Reset Protection may ask for it during setup, even after the reset. Samsung Support says, “If you are locked out of your device, you can perform a factory reset using the buttons on your device.” Samsung’s locked-device factory-reset guidance explains the broader process; the A12 sequence here comes from Three’s Galaxy A12 instructions.
Before resetting: check data loss and Google verification
A factory reset permanently erases data stored on the phone. Samsung’s Galaxy A12 user guide lists account settings, system and app data, downloaded apps, music, photos, videos and other files among the data erased. It says data on an external SD card is not affected. Google also warns that erase options remove data stored on the phone; anything not backed up should be treated as lost.

After a reset, a protected phone may ask for its screen-lock PIN, password or pattern, or for a Google Account previously added and synced to the device. Samsung’s A12 manual describes this as Factory Reset Protection: adding a Google Account activates the protection, and the registered credentials are needed after a protected reset. A reset is not a way to bypass that ownership check. See Google’s device-protection guidance and the Samsung locked-device guidance.
- Have the previously synced Google Account credentials available before resetting.
- If you have forgotten the password, recover the account first if possible. Samsung says a password change may take 24 hours or longer to become active on a Galaxy device; do not assume it will work immediately.
- Do not proceed expecting local photos, messages or other unbacked-up files to survive.
Reset a locked Samsung Galaxy A12 with its buttons
Three’s instructions are specific to the Galaxy A12. Samsung notes that button combinations vary by device, so do not substitute a sequence meant for another Galaxy model. The guide says Android Recovery may take around 30 seconds to appear; the publication date for this timing is not stated.

The reset erases the phone. Three’s A12 guide lists the hardware-button procedure without requiring a cable. Samsung’s broader instructions say to connect a locked phone to a computer by USB before opening recovery, and Three lists USB Type-C for the A12. A compatible USB-C data cable and computer may therefore be useful if needed, but the A12-specific instructions do not establish that a cable is universally required.
Choose between remote erase and Android Recovery
Remote management is an option only if it was set up and the phone meets the service’s requirements. Neither remote erase nor the button reset guarantees access without the ownership credentials.

| Samsung device-finding | The relevant Samsung service and account must be available for the device; Samsung account verification may be requested before erasure. | Samsung documents remote lock and erase actions. They are not a guaranteed way to remove a forgotten screen lock while preserving data. See Samsung’s lost-device guidance. |
| Android Recovery buttons | You have the phone and can follow the A12 recovery sequence. The A12-specific guide does not list an online connection as a prerequisite. | Erases local phone data; Google ownership verification may still appear during setup. See Three’s Galaxy A12 reset guide. |
If you cannot provide the Google Account after reset
If you know the Google email but not its password, use Google Account recovery, then try the recovered credentials after any security delay. Samsung says a new Google password may take 24 hours or longer to become active on a Galaxy device, so a recent password change may not work at once.
If you cannot recover the Google Account information, Samsung’s UK guidance advises taking the device and proof of purchase to an authorized Samsung Service Centre. Do not use instructions or software claiming to bypass Factory Reset Protection; the supported route is to recover the account or seek authorized service.
