#1 Best Overall
| Measure | Q2 fiscal 2026 disclosure | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Locations | Approximately 180,000 as of June 30, 2026, up 22% year over year | Toast defines a Location using POS transaction activity and its churn classification; retain that definition when comparing periods. |
| Gross payment volume (GPV) | $215 billion over the trailing 12 months as of June 30, 2026 | Total dollars processed across Toast Processing Locations; it is a scale measure, not Toast revenue. |
| Revenue | $1.908 billion for the quarter, up 23% year over year | Financial technology solutions: $1.570 billion; subscriptions: $290 million; hardware and professional services: $48 million. |
| GAAP net income and diluted EPS | $154 million and $0.26, respectively, for the quarter | Interim results do not necessarily indicate full-year or future interim results. |
| ARR | $2.409 billion as of June 30, 2026, up 25% year over year | Toast’s operating measure of subscription and payment-processing scale—not GAAP revenue, gross profit, or a revenue forecast. |
All figures and definitions in the table are from Toast’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. Toast attributes revenue growth primarily to financial technology solutions and subscriptions, supported by more Locations and continued product adoption.
Trace growth through the business model
Toast’s measures are linked: more Locations can expand the payment base; customer sales affect GPV; and higher GPV generally drives more financial technology solutions revenue. Growth is more persuasive when the parts reinforce one another and produce improving profitability, rather than merely increasing the volume processed.
Locations and customer expansion
Track Location counts over several quarters and years, using Toast’s published definition. Where disclosed, look for additions, churn, and expansion among existing customers. A larger installed base supports scale, but does not by itself show that each customer relationship is profitable or durable.

GPV and payment economics
Compare GPV with the number of Toast Processing Locations and with financial technology solutions revenue and its associated costs. Ask whether volume growth reflects a larger base, higher sales at existing customers, or both. Product mix and seasonal customer sales can also affect the relationship.
Subscriptions and hardware
Review subscription revenue growth and gross profit alongside overall scale. Toast reported $290 million of subscription revenue in Q2 fiscal 2026, compared with $227 million in Q2 fiscal 2025. Hardware and professional services were $48 million in Q2 fiscal 2026 versus $47 million a year earlier; keep this category in proportion to the larger revenue streams.
Profit, cash flow, and dilution
Follow GAAP profitability and operating cash flow over multiple periods. Read the cash-flow statement for working-capital movements, capitalized software, and other items that can make cash generation differ from reported earnings. Examine stock-based compensation and diluted share-count changes, including repurchases: per-share outcomes matter, not just company-wide growth. Adjusted EBITDA and ARR are not substitutes for GAAP results; review Toast’s definitions and stated limitations before using either measure.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Account for seasonality and business risks
Toast says financial technology revenue is largely driven by GPV and is seasonal. Historically, revenue per Toast Processing Location has been stronger in the second and third quarters, when customers often have greater sales in warmer months; the effect varies by region. Compare like quarters across years and avoid treating a strong Q2 as a normalized run rate.

Toast reported no material changes to the risk factors in its 2025 annual report, but cautions that additional risks may arise and past results may not predict future performance. The filing states: “You should not rely upon forward-looking statements as predictions of future events.”
Build a repeatable research workflow
- Find the newest filings. Open Toast’s SEC filing record and note the period end and filing date for the latest 10-Q and 10-K.
- Read beyond the headline. Review the business overview and management discussion, then the income statement, cash-flow statement, and risk factors.
- Create a multi-period tracker. Record Locations, GPV, subscription and financial technology revenue, hardware revenue, GAAP net income, operating cash flow, capital expenditures, and diluted share count.
- Check each metric’s definition. In particular, do not compare ARR or another company-defined measure with peers until you understand what it includes. Toast says ARR is an operating measure, not a forecast of future revenue.
- Evaluate valuation last. Choose a market-price date, then calculate market capitalization and enterprise value against a consistent earnings, gross-profit, or cash-flow measure. Consider relevant peers and account for share-based compensation and share-count changes.
- Write down both sides. Identify the operating evidence supporting an investment thesis, the evidence that would weaken it, and the unanswered questions. The cited company disclosures do not establish a current share price, valuation multiple, consensus expectations, or peer valuation.
Separate operating strength from an investment decision
Toast’s Q2 2026 disclosures show growth in Locations, GPV, revenue, and ARR, as well as positive GAAP net income for that quarter. They do not establish whether TOST shares are attractively valued today. That judgment requires current market data, a consistent valuation method, and a view of how the company’s economics may develop; the operating metrics alone cannot supply it.
